1 2017 Digital Grid Customer Summit Session Speaker Biographies April 3-7, 2017 PTI PSC/EBA Breakout Session April 4, 2017 Day 2 Hugo Bashualdo Sr. Manager Distribution Planning & Microgrids, Siemens PTI Mr. Bashualdo has over 23 years of specialized engineering and managerial experience within the power distribution system. His technical expertise includes distribution planning, distributed generation interconnection studies, and reliability improvement. In the Power Utility Industry, he managed distribution planning, distribution system design, construction, maintenance and operation. He focuses on enhancing distribution system reliability, improving power quality, reducing power losses, and increasing system capacity. Since joining Siemens PTI in 2012, he has been dedicated to redesigning the distribution system planning methodology to include the integration intermittent distributed energy resources (DER) and microgrids studies. Mr. Bashualdo designed post-processing tools for an easy and quick system impacts assessment with different levels of renewable generations.

2 2 Amar Patel Staff Consultant, Siemens PTI Mr. Patel has more than 10 years of wireless telecommunication research and industry experience in the fields of automation, sensor networks, intelligent buildings, and Smart Grid. He has managed, executed, and delivered numerous smart communications studies to power utilities. Mr. Patel joined the Distribution Planning and Microgrids group of Siemens PTI Consulting in 2013, bringing his knowledge in analytics and visualization of smart grid simulation and modeling to the power systems domain. He has been participating in power system studies involving renewable generation, distributed energy resources, and microgrids. Recently, he has developed an advanced distribution analysis platform that identifies, quantifies, and locates the impact of distributed generation on a distribution system. Bo Poats Solutions Director, Utilities, Pace Global, A Siemens Business Bo Poats is Solutions Director, Utilities at Pace Global, A Siemens Business, where he has served in a number of leadership positions over the past 20 years including market assessment, financial valuation and risk management practice areas. Mr. Poats is responsible for structuring and managing select utility and IPP services, including utility scale girdbased transformation and distributed energy integration strategy, contract origination, commodity and enterprise risk management. Mr. Poats has advised on over 300 projects in his tenure at Pace Global, including renewable energy, and emerging grid technologies. He has supported project commercial structuring and valuation across in the electric and oil and gas sectors, including rate and market structures spanning a variety of regulatory regimes, domestic and international jurisdictions and market environments. Bo holds a Series 3 CTA certification, and has served as an expert witness in numerous legal and regulatory venues.

3 3 Sacha Fontaine Solutions Director, Business Transformation Services (BTS), Pace Global, A Siemens Business Sacha leads the BTS/Smart Grid Consulting Practice. He has advised or worked at some of the largest power suppliers in North America including Duke Energy, Siemens, GE and Hydro-Quebec. He has over 16 years of Transmission & Distribution experience and has expertise in leading Grid Modernization efforts. He has served as a management consultant or SME on a variety of projects including Feeder Automation, Condition- Based Monitoring, DER integration, Energy storage site validation and the integration of advanced EMS/DMS including CVR, Load Shed, and IVVC. Sacha earned his bachelor s in engineering from McGill University and is pursuing a Master's in Finance at Harvard. Venki Venkateshwara Principal Consultant, Pace Global, A Siemens Business Venki Venkateshwara leads Siemens PTI/Pace Global s work at major electric utilities, equipment vendors, and power sector developers. Venki brings depth in knowledge and experience with respect to working with and counseling senior utility management teams on market and strategy studies. He has in-depth knowledge of power markets and has led many power market studies. Venki has over 30 years of experience and prior to joining Pace Global he was a Director, Strategic Planning at Consolidated Edison, where he worked on a range of strategy questions. He also was Director, Strategic Initiatives, at AREVA, a global energy company. His past experience includes several years at the international management consulting firm of McKinsey & Company, where he advised the senior management teams of U.S. electric companies and global equipment vendors. He served as a principal at CRA International, in the firm s energy practice. Mr. Venkateshwara holds a PhD in energy policy from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School. He earned a bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.

4 4 Joe Canterino, PE Software Business Lead, Siemens PTI Mr. Canterino s decade of experience working in utility Planning, Transmission Operations, and Work Management gives him keen insight into how to solve technically challenging power industry problems using practical, real world applications. Mr. Canterino is a registered Professional Engineer who can effectively balance the capabilities of technology with the needs of the client. He can design flexible solutions that are both technically involved, and user friendly. From firsthand experience, he has a direct understanding of customer challenges, and how to translate them into a design for a customer solution. Ahmed Mousa Distribution Manager, PSE&G Guest Speaker and Panelist Ahmed Mousa has over 13 years of field, planning, operations, design, project management, training, DERs, energy efficiency, demand response, load relief, emergency response experience in generation, transmission, substations and distribution systems with industry leaders such as Con Edison, PSE&G, PEPCO, and First Energy. As the Distribution Manager at PSE&G, Mr. Mousa is responsible for managing the entire distribution system and the 69 kv transmission system, power system modeling, distribution simulation studies, short/ long range substation forecasts, short/long term load relief plans, short circuit studies and customers interconnections. In addition, he is responsible for all DERs technical evaluations, grid impact and interconnection agreements and has developed the DER feeder and substation DER limits. Mr. Mousa is also an Adjunct Professor at NJIT teaching advanced graduate electrical engineering courses. He is a senior design judge and an NJIT Industry Action Board member. Mr. Mousa is a NJ Association of Energy Engineers board member and Founder & CEO of The Electric Bridge Consulting firm, assisting large and small utilities, colleges/universities and consulting firms. He is an author of two books and several professional engineering online courses.

5 5 Andrew Powers Program Manager, PSE&G Guest Speaker Mr. Powers is the Program Manager for PSE&G s Solar 4 All program, managing the implementation of 158 MW-dc of solar in PSE&G s electric service territory. His involvement in the program since 2009 has included project development, financial forecasting, system design, budgeting, EPC contract and lease negotiations, community outreach, participation in identifying plant controls and O&M services, and overseeing the 40 MW Pole Attach Solar program. Currently, Andrew is developing an additional 33 MW-dc of solar energy on Landfills / Brownfields and 3 MWdc of pilot projects, which look to advance the use of solar + battery storage systems to mitigate the impact solar has on the grid and integrate solar and energy storage technologies to provide backup power in the event of another significant storm. Prior to joining PSE&G, Mr. Powers worked in the semiconductor industry for 16 years in various capacities including domestic and international site development, design, and construction of semiconductor fabrication facilities, Asset and EH&S Management, Quality Management, and Product Safety. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Safety Sciences.

Mr. Canterino is a registered Professional Engineer who can effectively balance the capabilities of technology with the needs of the client. He can design flexible solutions that are both technically involved, and user friendly. From firsthand experience, he has a direct understanding of customer challenges, and how to translate them into a design for a customer solution. Kavitha Shankar Manager, Deployment and Customer Care, Siemens PTI UTC Representation Ms. Shankar has over 15 years of experience in technology consulting & software product development with a specific emphasis on the North American power market. She has successfully managed and led several distributed software product teams. Her key expertise lies in delivering and supporting integrated bid-to-bill energy transaction management software platforms for front- and back-office operations with ISOs such as PJM, MISO, ISO-NE, ERCOT and NYISO, to name a few. Ms. Shankar has rich experience in conceptualizing and managing transformational initiatives to achieve process excellence especially in the area of Agile Software Development. At Siemens, she heads the global strategy and operations for Customer Care, Deployment and Quality Assurance. Ms. Shankar is an MBA from the University of Illinois where she graduated from with Gold Cord Honors. She also holds dual Masters in Biological Sciences and Computer Science Engineering from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India. Joe Hood Technical Portfolio Manager, Siemens PTI UTC Speaker & New PSS E Add-on Modules Workshop Leader Since joining in 2012, Joe has been involved in dynamics model development for equipment manufacturers, transient stability analysis for transfer studies, and congestion analysis for wind farm integration. Furthermore, his strong programming and automation skills allow him to work especially efficiently for customers - through automation, efficient data mining and innovative approaches to visualizing complex information.

7 7 Krishnat Patil Senior Staff Engineer, Siemens PTI UTC Speaker & GIC Analysis Using PSS E Dr. Patil has over 11 years of experience in developing production grade software tools including PSS E, Python extension modules and Python applications. He is an expert in various aspects of power system analysis, modeling, and simulation. He has played a major role in the development of the Python extension modules for PSS E s short circuit and GIC functions. Many of the Python applications and extension modules he has developed have been extensively used by many utility engineers to optimize and speed up their routine tasks. Dr. Patil has published over 15 papers or articles in various journals, conference proceedings and the Power Technology newsletter. He has also developed and taught numerous Siemens PTI courses to power system engineers. Jay Senthil Senior Staff Engineer, Siemens P UTC Speaker Dr. Senthil has over 20 years of experience in developing production grade software tools including PSS E and EMTP-type programs. He is an expert in various aspects of power system analysis, modeling, and simulation. He has played a major role in the development of several specialized equipment models, for dynamic simulation. Many of the specialized models he has developed are now part of the PSS E dynamic model library. Dr. Senthil has published over 25 papers in various journals and conference proceedings. He is active in numerous working groups of the IEEE, and other industry task forces. He has also developed and taught numerous Siemens PTI courses to power system engineers. Mike Ward Senior Staff Engineer, Siemens PTI Mr. Ward has over 19 years of experience developing software. Since 2004, he has led the development of PSS MOD, a web-based software application used for data management in transmission planning. Mr. Ward has been involved in all phases of product development including requirements engineering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

8 8 Greg Mahlum Senior Software Engineer, Siemens PTI Mr. Mahlum has over eight years of experience developing software tools in the PSS E product suite, and academic training in both electric power and computer engineering. He has responsibility for many aspects of PSS E s GUI, including layout and architecture, diagram maintenance and improvements, file management, and utility program development and integration. Mr. Mahlum has made significant contributions to the node breaker user interface including layout and manipulation tools. He has also made significant contributions behind the scenes, streamlining and optimizing processes and integrations within PSS E. Additionally, Mr. Mahlum provides customer support for interface and diagram related customer issues. Marty Glynn Senior Staff Engineer, Siemens PTI UTC Speaker Mr. Glynn is an expert in PSS E s automation tools. He introduced the use of the Python language in PSS E, and developed the Line Mode Interpreter and the Batch command processor. He has also maintained the IPLAN compiler for over 20 years. Throughout his career, Mr. Glynn has been a vital contributor to the development of PSS E s interfaces with external software. Mr. Glynn has developed several Python extension libraries used in PSS E as well as other components. He is an expert in the modern standards and coding practices of the Fortran programming language, and works regularly in others, such as C and C++. He is a primary contributor to structural and design changes in PSS E. Chuck DuBose Senior Staff Engineer, Siemens PTI UTC Speaker With over 35 years of power system experience, Mr. DuBose has extensive knowledge in transmission operations, power system models, and software. He is skilled in converting the needs and requests of the client into software requirements as well as assisting software engineers with CIM data mapping and power system operations and design. Mr. DuBose is an expert in translating business requirements into software solutions. He has been at the forefront of the development of Model on Demand (PSS MOD) and its deployment into the industry. He has trained new software users of this product and assisted them in defining business processes to suit their requirements. With prior experience working directly for utilities, Mr. DuBose has accumulated a wide variety

9 9 of experience in transmission and distribution construction practices. Mr. DuBose s breadth of practical experience reaches into almost every aspect of power system design and operation. Ulrike Sachs Senior Key Expert for System Planning Software, Siemens PTI UTC Speaker Mrs. Sachs has nearly 20 years of experience leading the development of PSS SINCAL at Siemens PTI. She has many areas of expertise including the analysis, design of network planning systems. She has also developed several methods for the simulation of networks including fault analysis and protection, and harmonics and ripple control. Over the past two decades, Mrs. Sachs has been the face of PSS SINCAL at dozens of User Group Meetings all over the world presenting new features to customers, and keeping a pulse on customer needs. Jerrod Moll Principal Engineer, Southern Company Guest Speaker User Presentation Jerrod began his career with Southern Company after graduating college in 2002 as a substation engineer. He has progressed through the engineering ranks at Southern Company while serving in several different areas including substations, operations and planning. Currently, he is a principal engineer in Transmission Planning working in the OATT and Regional Planning department. He has represented Southern Company on various industry committees such as the SERC Regional Reliability Subcommittee (RRS), SERC Long Term Study Group (LTSG), and the Eastern Interconnection Planning Collaborative (EIPC). Jerrod received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in 2002, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama Birmingham in 2005 and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Alabama. Anish Gaikwad Sr. Project Manager, Epri Guest Speaker User Presentation Anish Gaikwad is a Sr. Project Manager in Grid Operations and Planning program at Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). He manages and provides technical leadership to EPRI research activities related to transmission planning. Anish is leading EPRI s research efforts in the area of modeling, model validation, risk-based planning, grid reliability and resiliency analysis, and contingency generation and analysis methods.

10 10 José Conto Principal, Dynamics Studies Engineer, ERCO Guest Speaker User Presentation José Conto received his BSEE from the University of Engineers, Lima, Peru in 1981 and his MSEE from University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan in He stayed with CRIEPI, Japan for one year. Mr. Conto worked for Electric Research & Management (State College, PA) on several electrical engineering projects including photovoltaic systems, EMF, GMD monitoring system. Next he worked for the Tokyo Electric Power in Washington DC on utility-scale technology applications before joining the System Planning Department at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) in As Principal of the Dynamic Studies group at ERCOT, Mr. Conto oversees system dynamic studies with renewable power plants modeled. Mr. Conto is an IEEE Sr. member and active on several industry group including NERC SAMS member, NATF Modeling Group member, etc. Matthew Spencer Bulk Engineer, Georgia Transmission Corporation Guest Speaker User Presentation Mr. Spencer has 7 years in the power industry working as a Bulk Engineer at Georgia Transmission Corp. A significant amount of his time is spent developing tools for automating engineering tasks. Tools include a range from high level desktop applications in Visual Studio and SQL to python scripts. Mr. Spencer grew up with programming as a hobby, and continues to take opportunities to expand his knowledge. He has a background that includes an EE from Georgia Tech, and he is a registered PE in the state of Georgia. Nihal Mohan Senior Modeling Engineer, MISO Guest Speaker User Presentation Mr. Mohan is an Electrical Engineer with Master s degree in Power Systems from Arizona State University with 8 years of professional experience. He is a Senior Engineer at MISO in the Transmission Expansion Planning group since He worked three years with ABB Ltd, India in power systems consulting group. Mr. Mohan s areas of focus areas include Transmission Planning, Steady State and Dynamic Power System Analysis, Model Validation and NERC Compliance. He is also an active member of profession groups such as IEEE PES, North American Transmission Forum, EPRI, and NERC Modeling Task Force.
