3 Starting a UNV conversion Information Design Tool provides the ability to convert a UNV universe either from a file system or from a CMS repository. To start the conversion go to the File menu. The conversion from CMS is recommended for converting a Universe along with its security items. The conversion from file system allows you to do a conversion of a UNV file that was saved for all users (using a shared or personal connection). 5 Convert UNV universe from CMS Scenario 2 In this scenario, we use Universe Design Tool XI4 to export a UNV Universe into the XI4 CMS repository. That UNV Universe can then be converted into a UNX Universe using Information Design Tool. 7 Multi lingual Universe In XI3, one can translate UNV Universe metadata using Translation Manager in order to obtain a multi-lingual lingual Universe. When converting a multi-lingual Universe, all the translated strings regarding the universe metadata are converted as well as the language g and locale settings. 8 Converting a Core Universe A core Universe is by design not linked to any other Universe. Therefore a core Universe follows the same conversion rules as a regular secured Universe. Note that the conversion of a core universe does NOT trigger the conversion of its dependent linked (a.k.a. derived) Universes. SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 8

9 Converting a linked (a.k.a. derived) Universe A linked Universe is converted via the Convert from CMS path. When converting a linked Universe, the system performs an Include operation for all core Universes that this linked Universe is referring to. The resulting Data Foundation will consist of all the tables and joins coming from all core Universes plus, if any, the table, joins and contexts that were defined locally in the linked universe. The resulting Business Layer will consist of all the classes, objects and conditions coming from all core Universes as well as the classes, objects and conditions that were defined locally in the linked universe.
