JReport Analytics Leadership Survey The State of Analytics in 2017: Inside & Outside the Enterprise Eager to enhance commercial products and services with analytics, enterprises reveal key struggles and opportunities in delivering these customer-facing insights along with their plans for analytics in the cloud.

Overview Since its beginnings in the 1980 s, the majority of BI and analytics investments have focused on internal processes and users. Starting with the launch of our first analytics product in 1998, a great deal of Jinfonet s efforts have focused on helping companies deploy analytics outside the enterprise, within the context of customer-facing commercial products and services. Fast-forward to 2017: leading analyst firms now estimate the global business intelligence and analytics market to exceed 15 billion dollars this year. With the BI market s magnitude of growth and an awareness of both internal and customer-facing solutions, Jinfonet was curious to learn more about how businesses are thinking about and approaching BI and analytics, both inside and outside of their enterprises. 48% SAY: 75% - 100% of Commercial Customers Could Benefit from Analytical Insights When Jinfonet recently surveyed more than 400 senior business professionals, we found that efforts are shifting more towards analytics for commercial products and services. 2

The survey results provide a number of insights and a few surprises. For example, we could not imagine the high percentage of respondents currently working on external customer projects. It was also eye-opening to see just how much business executives crave the ability to provide analytics for their external customers. But despite 48 percent of respondents expressing value in providing analytics to external customers, only 26 percent are addressing the opportunity. These results provide a clear indicator of the market's need for commercially focused analytics projects and help to explain a growing focus on external customer-facing projects. PREFERRED SOLUTION FOR DELIVERING DATA INSIGHTS 1 ST EMBEDDED ANALYTICS 2 ND DEDICATED WEB PORTAL 3 RD SCHEDULED REPORTS 3

From a solutions perspective, many options exist, from a report attached to to a full BI desktop client. The survey sought to capture insight into what business leaders think an ideal solution looks like for internal users and external customers. In both situations, respondents chose context-specific analytics embedded within applications. Among respondents focused on commercial projects, 56 percent chose an embedded approach while respondents focused on internal projects also preferred an embedded analytics solution, just edging out a dedicated web portal for analyzing data. The survey also uncovered insight into the trends and challenges of delivering analytics both internally and externally. WHERE ARE BI and ANALYTICS RESOURCES APPLIED: 67% EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS 33% INTERNAL USERS If an enterprise leverages the cloud or is planning to migrate BI and analytics components there, the main driver was to reduce IT operations cost (44 percent) followed by the desire to offer a SaaS solution (33 percent). 15 Closing Thoughts We hope you gained a better understanding of the BI and analytics market, inside and outside the enterprise. The BI and analytics benefits enjoyed by business users for decades are making their way towards commercial customers outside the walls of the enterprise. Driven by opportunities to differentiate products and services through more intelligence and better experiences for consumers, business leaders are dedicating a growing share of BI and analytics resources to projects focused on external customers. 15

The style and delivery mechanism of BI and analytics solutions aimed at commercial customers are critical; existing internal models and delivery formats are not always appropriate for ordinary consumers outside the enterprise. Although report designers and power users may require dedicated discovery and analysis tools, Jinfonet agrees with the majority of survey respondents indicating the preference for context-specific analytics embedded within customer-facing products and services outside the enterprise. Overall, this survey found that the gap between the supply and demand of analytics insights for commercial customers presents a huge opportunity for companies. The survey findings demonstrate that many commercial product and service owners are eager to enhance offerings with data analytics and insights, but are still struggling to deliver them -- a challenge we know that companies can overcome through embedded analytics. 16
