2 Aim of the HSWP Aim Health Information Strand To provide up-to-date, understandable and reliable information for citizens of Europe to help them in their health and health care decision-making Aim Health Systems Working Party To facilitate the exchange and comparison of information about important aspects of health systems in the EU MS. This will enable: - benchmarking - performance assessment - exchange / networking of best practices while recognising the MS own primary responsibilities for their health systems.

9 (Febr 06 - June 06) Project progress related to: Pharmaceutical Pricing and Reimbursement Project: Aim: to improve information and knowledge on the pharmaceutical systems in the enlarged Europe Latest developments: -Finalisation of Needs Assessment by WHO Europe - Establishment of Intranet Version of PPRI website (cf. - Development of Pharma Glossary together with WHO, OECD and WHO Observatory as well as PPRI participants (cf. select Glossary from top menu). Comments from NCA are welcome. - Development of draft template for country profiles - Building a network of public institutions dealing with pricing and reimbursement in Europe - Cooperation with other ongoing EU pharmaceutical projects (SOGETI, Euro- Med-Stat, ESAP, etc.) Request to NCA: - In Sept. 06, planning to make a short survey providing an overview of EU funded projects pertaining pharmaceutical indicators benchmarks. Cooperation is needed and requested,

10 (Febr 06 - June 06) Project progress related to: Central and Eastern Europe Quality Network: Aim: Currently administered health care data based system for quality performance evaluation and collaboration (A, CZ., H, P, SK) Latest developments: - Detailed description of primary data used in health care (HC) systems of all collaborating countries - Tabulated overview of indicators (extractable from data administrated in the 5 countries of the project) proposed for testing in the CEEQNET database - Online accessible functional database of data extracted and transformed into a standard format from primary data sources of collaborating HC systems and a Reporting tool enabling different views of database using the dimensions of CEEQNET - Comparative analysis of use of indicators extractable from administrated HC data in 5 countries of the CEEQNET and detailed explanation of indicators - Description of quality management in collaborating HC institutions for obtaining a view of initial conditions before use of the CEEQNET dbase - Quarterly Newsletter - Detailed description of HC quality approach in all 5 collaborating countries

11 (Febr 06 - June 06) Project progress related to: European Network for Health Technology Assessment: Aim: to connect public national/regional HTA agencies, research institutions and health ministries, enabling an effective exchange of information and support to policy decisions by the Member States Latest developments: - Provisional public website and intranet/members-only developed and functioning ( June 29 launch of a permanent web-based EUnetHTA Information platform - Publications about EUnetHTA in Eurohealth (Vol 12, No1, 2006), Bundesgesundheitsblatt (March 2006), Partners newsletters and websites. Project mentioned in the Financial Times (FT, May 9, 2006) - First steps in the establishment of the HTA stakeholder forum have been taken EUnetHTA developed a programme of and will be holding a European HTA Parallel Forum on October 4 and 5, 2006 as part of the European Health Forum Gastein in Austria.

12 New Overall HSWP activities: - Initiation of a Basic Glossary of Health Systems Terms Work Group - Initiation of a HTA Advisory Board - Development Sharepoint website for WP members only (workplace functional, now focus on the development of a process for efficient and accountable collaboration of the HSWP members and with other WP) - Development of a publicly accessible HSWP website - Development of a Quarterly SAO HSWP Newsletter - Creating an overview of HSWP indicators incl. Specifications (facilitating contribution to ECHIM)

13 Development of a process for efficient and accountable collaboration: Working version * A request from another WP or a WP member is sent to the SAO (rather than distributed by means of often outdated mail-lists) * SAO contacts HSWP chair, co-chair and decision taken if the request concerns the whole HSWP or just a sub-group of people * The request is sent out with a deadline * Material received from respondents is collated and put on the web-board of HSWP (alerts sent out to all HSWP per that a document was produced) * 2 to 3 days period for peer-review by all HSWP members * Final material sent out to the person or body requesting * ALL materials produced between 2 HSWP meetings discussed (potentially fully finalized) at a HSWP meeting, potential actions resulting from the production of the material are implemented into the activities of HSWP, ALL MATERIALS TRACEABLE
