4 Tork EasyCube Intelligent System Eliminating complaints with intelligent washrooms When providing athletic training of the highest quality to one million visitors per year, every detail matters. That s why the largest sports complex in the Nordics chose to make their washrooms intelligent getting rid of complaints and providing an entirely new logic for cleaning. Measuring 237,000 square feet, the IKSU sports facility in Umeå in the north of Sweden has everything from gyms and pools to climbing walls and indoor beach volley ball courts. IKSU is also a center of athletic expertise and has provided injury treatment for international soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimović among others. We continuously analyze customer feedback, and noticed that cleaning came up from time to time as an issue. We occasionally had trouble cleaning the showers and refilling soap and paper on time, especially in the evenings when visits peak says Bo Andersson, property manager and head of facility management at IKSU. The size of the facilities meant IKSU s partner Norrlands Miljövård (NMV) was already doing up to 64 hours of cleaning per day. But NMV and IKSU facility management set out together to improve quality even more, and decided to try something new. They implemented Tork EasyCube a digital service connecting 300 dispensers throughout the facility. The service provides real-time information about cleaning and refill needs. Before, only one in four dispenser controls actually led to a refill. The routine was repetitive, always checking everywhere. Now I know exactly what s needed by just looking at the tablet attached to my cleaning trolley says André Söderberg, NMV cleaner at IKSU. They have also changed the intense evening shifts from static schedules to need-based cleaning. At a large facility like IKSU you sometimes have to walk up to ten minutes to check a washroom. The overview enabled by Tork EasyCube has led to increased staff motivation tasks that used to be repetitive and dull feel meaningful when you adapt them in real-time to exactly what is needed. This means cleaners are less stressed even while being more effective and doing more cleaning. The benefits of the system are also contributing to attracting new staff as well as radically decreasing training time for new cleaners, who can become part of the team straight away. I feel like I have the energy to do more when I know that everything I do matters says André Söderberg. Our management team was considering building new changing rooms to solve the cleaning quality problem, which would have cost millions. Now that money can be used more efficiently. Results are clear complaints about empty dispensers have been completely eliminated and today customers are happy with the cleaning at IKSU. But that isn t all. With insights from the system, the management team has been able to make new decisions with longterm impact on IKSU s business, including charting and comparing monthly needs to more efficiently allocate resources over the year. As a result staffing hours will be shifted from the winter period to the fall and spring, which require more intense cleaning. I had underestimated what can be done with this system. 5 Tork EasyCube Intelligent System Tork EasyCube service and system requirements FAQ How do I know what to order? We ll look through the needs of the building together then make sure you get the right amount of dispensers, sensors and data collection units to cover your needs. Just contact us and we ll get started! Can I use existing dispensers? Tork Elevation dispensers and Tork intelligent sensor technology are required. The existing Tork Mini Jumbo Toilet Roll Dispenser is fully compatible, however the other dispensers have a special holder for the sensor unit and will need to be upgraded to a Tork EasyCube compatible dispenser. How does the installation work? You install the dispensers. Once in place, a Tork EasyCube installation team will fit the sensor technology then setup, configure and verify the full system - all on the same visit. Does sensor mounting require drilling in walls or door frames? Most of the sensors are mounted in a special holder on the inside of each dispenser. The data collection unit or visitor registration unit may require screws but they can also be mounted with extra durable double-sided tape. Do I need power in my washroom? Power is required either inside the washroom or just outside. The data collection unit is the only component that needs a 220V power source. The sensors run on a battery with a lifetime of 5 years. Power availability will be reviewed during installation planning and suitable placement of the data collection unit will be recommended by the installer. What devices do cleaning staff and facility managers need? Cleaners require a web capable device such as a smartphone or tablet to be able to make use of the system. For managers and planners who work with statistics or delegating tasks, we recommend a device with a larger screen for the best possible view of graphs and general facility overviews. No. In case of a power failure, a back-up battery in the system will make sure no data is lost. All information is also secured by thorough back-up procedures at SCA servers.
