MEDaCoN Mediterranean EGNOS Data Collection Network Session A5: Local & Regional Augmentation Systems ENC-GNSS 07 31st May 2007 Geneva Umberto Guida ESSP Antonella Di Fazio Telespazio Santiago Soley PILDO Lab

Contents Introduction and Objectives Infrastructure, Background and Technologies Partners Architecture Analysis Communication activities MEDaCoN is part of METIS (MEdiTerranean Introduction of GNSS Services) project METIS project is managed by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority through Euro-MED GNSS I project

MEDaCoN & METIS METIS project objectives: Supporting actions in favour of the introduction of EGNOS and Galileo services in the MEDiterranean Area (MEDA) Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey METIS Activities: Define the MEDA GNSS Regional plan Training and Awareness activities about GNSS GNSS Services Demonstration Project runs in parallel with the ESA s infrastructure development activity for the GNSS SIS Provision in the MEDA region More than 20 local partners involved in addition to the 5 project partners

MEDA Infrastructure Signal available in the area belongs to: EGNOS basic initial architecture EGNOS extension (ESA GNSS Support Programme) EGNOS extension, 4 additional RIMS: Tel Aviv, Israel Abu Simbel, Egypt Tamanrasset, Algeria Agadir, Morocco Timeline Courtesy of Thales Alenia Space

Objectives Provide a coordinated tool for real-time monitoring of the status of the EGNOS Service Extension in the Mediterranean region, in order to: increase the practical knowledge of GNSS principles; promote technical exchanges between the different Countries partners of the project; stimulate local demos, academic research activities, application development and test; increase the confidence about EGNOS services. taste the real-time performances

Background Events impacting the GNSS service provision in the Mediterranean region in the next future: EGNOS qualification and Services start-up; EGNOS infrastructure extension in Mediterranean region; EGNOS infrastructure extension in Middle-East; During transition periods, knowledge of the status of the system and his real performances made easier to plan successful demonstration activities, increase the confidence about the system, speed-up application development and tests.

Technologies Eurocontrol s EGNOS Data Collection Network Since 2004 Today, more than ten European partners Technically, MEDaCoN represents the extension of these activities for the MEDA region Maximum reuse of all the EDCN tools (PEGASUS) and processes developed kindly made available for MEDaCoN by Eurocontrol Liaison between EDCN and MEDaCoN

Partners MEDaCoN coordinated by ESSP EGNOS Operator and Safety of Life service PILDO Lab technical management Developer of PEGASUS ARCE (Algeria) GEMCO (Egypt) NASC (Egypt) TECHION (Israel) JUST (Jordan) AUI (Morocco) ARIJ (Palestine) IT.COM (Tunisia) TURKSAT (Turkey)

Architecture Network Results Data Collection Server Joint analyses generation ftp results storage Global reporting + web-site update Egypt + ESSP (mirror) Data Server ftp transfer raw data & local results Data Collection Stations Continuous data logging Daily processing Local reporting ftp data storage & sharing Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Turkey

Data Analysis: Local Assessment Daily assessment of system performance achieved At each Data Collection Station Local performances checked against accuracy, integrity, availability and continuity system requirements First glance report produced

Data Analysis: Anomalies Analysis The local anomalies identified will be analysed in detail to identify their cause, the probability of re-occurrence and possible mitigation techniques. Some examples (images refers to EDCN)

Data Analysis: Global Assessment of course the picture refers to EDCN Based on the local and daily data sets. stability of performance by combining the measured results on different locations. System level performance vs. requirement of promising applications APV, Maritime Coastal Navigation, Freight Transport

Communication and support Web-site Data Publication system performances vs. service requirements Dedicated section in METIS web-site English, French, Arab, Hebrew and Turkey languages Support to Local activities Training provided to the Data Collection Stations and Server responsible GNSS data collection and process methods EGNOS Operation and Service principles Technical support to dedicated academic activities thesis, PHD, seminars, development of pilot applications

MEDaCoN Today Finalisation of contractual and technical relations with local hosting partners Receiver survey and selection concluded Use of Septentrio Polar-X single frequency Selection of sites has started 8 about 10 MEDA Countries involved in MEDaCoN Hosting MEDA Data Collection Station / Server Perform local analysis Looking for Lebanon and Syrian partners for the MEDaCoN network in that Countries
