2 Description IBM WebSphere Business Integration (WBI) for Retail Distribution expands its portfolio of retailer-specific business processes to include a solution for integrating product information with the UCCnet standard registry. New in This Release IBM WBI for Retail Distribution now provides a business process for receiving product information data from the UCCnet global registry, to validating the contents of the data, routing the data through an approval/review process, and synchronizing the validated data with other applications throughout the enterprise. This product information management solution requires the following new collaborations: IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for UCCnet Message Manager IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for Merchandise Qualification IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for Data Storage These three new collaborations, when used with other components, help automate the product information management process. New WBI for Retail Distribution Collaborations IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for UCCnet Message Manager This collaboration provides retailers with a streamlined process to receive extensible Markup Language (XML) data from the UCCnet standard registry, to initiate processing on this data, and to send responses back to UCCnet. This collaboration automates the steps required to interface with UCCnet. IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for Merchandise Qualification This collaboration cleanses the item data, helps manage the item approval process, and routes the approved item information to other enterprise systems. Processing begins with internal validation of the data to ensure it is correct, complete, and in the required format. If the data does not meet these guidelines, this collaboration can automatically create and send a notification to the appropriate user, stating that additional information is needed in order to continue with the approval process. Next, this collaboration helps manage the review and approval processes. An IBM MQSeries Workflow template is bundled with the IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for Merchandise Qualification. This provides the retailer with a long-running item approval process that allows for human interaction. This collaboration then updates the retailer s back-office systems with the processed item information, ensuring the item data is automatically synchronized throughout the enterprise. IBM CrossWorlds Collaboration for Data Storage This collaboration houses item data during the approval and review processes. Therefore, the required item information is available to the retailer as long as the item is being processed, even if the approval process spans days, weeks, or even months. Summary IBM s product information management solution provides retailers with robust, affordable, secure access to UCCnet standard registry. The benefits of automating the product information management process can be dramatic. The product information management solution provided within the WebSphere Business Integration for Retail Distribution portfolio gives retailers an easy way to efficiently collaborate with suppliers using clean, synchronized data. Product Positioning As part of the WebSphere Business Integration portfolio of offerings, the IBM CrossWorlds solution further extends IBM s portfolio of e-business infrastructure software. The combined IBM CrossWorlds solution helps companies maximize the business results from their e-business initiatives as well as their investments in applications and systems. The IBM CrossWorlds solution offers functionality required by both the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Business-to-Business Integration markets so that companies can more easily automate business processes both inside and outside the company s firewall. Within one coherent framework, WebSphere, companies can address seemingly disparate integration efforts, such as tying together customer data, automating business processes, and linking to Business Partners over the Internet. The IBM CrossWorlds portfolio of products has several key features: An industry-leading business integration server A rich set of prebuilt collaborations or predefined business process logic for more easily extending and uniting processes An easy-to-use graphical development environment and tool set that facilitates rapid end-to-end development, deployment, and maintenance of business objects and processes An extensive list of connectors, providing out-of-the-box access to many popular packaged applications for faster integration Using these products, companies can experience significant business benefits, such as a single unified view of enterprise-wide data, regardless of the application or database where the information may reside. They can also gain the advantage of flexible business processes that are more easily changed to accommodate business needs. With IBM CrossWorlds, processes are defined separately and exist independently of enterprise applications. Finally, a company can more easily include external trading partners in its business processes and leverage Internet-based trading networks and exchanges.
