Europe Marco Polo is a trade finance industry initiative involving the world s foremost financial institutions and supported by enterprise technology firms TradeIX and R3. APAC The project is focused on deploying an open trade finance platform built on a global network powered by open APIs and Corda distributed ledger technology.

The financial and IT systems that support global trade are antiquated, siloed, and manual intensive, injecting significant cost, risk, and friction into trade processes for all parties involved. These disconnected, inefficient systems places hard limits on business models, the types of solutions and services we offer, the way in which we offer them, where we offer them, and the types of entities we offer them too. Lack of standards and interoperability give rise to disconnected, siloed trade systems that do not speak to one another. Trade data and assets are trapped in data silos, making valuable data hard to get and even harder to verify. This creates major fraud, compliance, and audit risks as trading parties have little to no visibility into critical trade data. Reliance on manual, costly, tedious, error-prone, and redundant processes Aging technology makes integrations and implementation slow, costly, and complex. Legacy solutions are inflexible and difficult to build on. Large pools of trade assets currently not accessible for funding or inefficiently managed by financial institutions.

Enable end-to-end financing and business process automation for multi-part trade finance transactions Reduce fraud risk and compliance costs by providing participants real-time visibility into a single source of truth. Drive automation and reduce operational friction by digitizing and standardizing trade agreements using smart-contracts Enable convergence of data from physical, informational, and financial supply chains. Allow trade assets, data, and risk to be exchanged securely, efficiently, and in real-time $ Enable rapid, targeted pre and post shipment financing and risk mitigation at critical points in trade lifecycle. Provide a superior customer experience through light, modular, and API-driven systems and intuitive user experiences. Allow for simple integrations to the ecosystem of trade services like KYC and credit data providers. Make corporate integrations, internal and external, and simpler, more efficient, and more cost-effective.

7 Universal Trade Network (UTN) An open, shared, and global trade network-of-networks that allows trading parties and their systems, applications, and networks to: connect exchange data transact peer-to-peer and in real-time. The UTN is open-source technology and maintained by an industry consortium. It is designed to do for trade what the internet did for information.
