2 London Public Library is inviting proposals from qualified businesses to design and install an accessible service counter at Landon Branch Library. Background Service desks provide customers with an option of self check-out or staff assisted service, both of which must be self-revealing and highly visible to customers. Library service counters have several functions including: - Reception to the library; - Checking in and out materials; - Registering and providing information for library users in-person and by telephone; - Customer self-service options; - Sorting materials returned to the customer; and - Cash transactions. Purpose London Public Library is endeavouring to make the service counter at Landon Branch Library accessible by incorporating features into the overall design that ensure: There is a section low enough for someone sitting in a mobility aid to access services; and There is enough clear space in front for a person sitting in a mobility aid to approach the counter, including space for the person s knees. For more detailed information about making service counters accessible, including specific technical requirements you need to follow, refer to the Built Environment Government of Ontario Standards Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation 191/11 and City of London Facility Accessibility and Design Standards (FADS) Design-Standards.aspx. Equipment on Service Counter - Staff multipurpose computer terminals with mini-printers; - Monitor to be placed on ergonomic arms; - Express-checkout computers; - Two (2) staff telephones; - Wiring equipment required for debit and credit card payments; - Space to park one (1) book truck (18 x 42 ); and - All required hardware.

3 Scope of Work The Service Desk design must: Be highly accessible, highly visible and self-revealing; Exhibit clear areas for checking materials in and out; Exhibit clear areas for provision of reader s advisory, reference, reception and directional assistance; Be equally accessible for all users and compliant with City of London Facility Accessibility and Design Standards (FADS) and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); Be designed to be highly ergonomic to support the high use by staff performing a variety of physically demanding functions including long periods of standing; Have space for stand-up lending/reference transactions and space for sit down transactions (to facilitate wheelchair/scooters) with minimum unobstructed horizontal knee space clearance of 30 under computer workstation and under customer service counter; and Have space underneath the counter to mount computers, one secured drawer and one cash register drawer. Specifications Materials to be used for construction of Customer Service Desk must be able to endure extensive use (for example, solid surface counter top) and must have rounded corners to avoid sharp edges. Timelines Work must be completed in the month of June Schedule will be determined upon awarding of the contract. Scope of Work Include with submission for accessible service desk: 1.) Suggested Design; 2.) Cost; 3.) Complete list of materials. ROUNDED CORNERS. 3 lockable drawers along top in back with open, adjustable shelving underneath along length of counter. Shape should have very slight curve (even slighter than in the drawing) out in the center of front with matching curve on back of desk so width is the same for entire length. The back left of the counter, beside the pillar, needs to be solid for 12, ½ wide and 20 deep as a cash register support will be attached here. COMPONENT D: Lower small table at side just counter top, open underneath with single leg support.
