1 STATIONARY AMPHIBIAN GUIDANCE WALL Makes an important contribution to animal welfare and wildlife conservation Beilharz amphibian guidance walls are efficient protection devices to prevent amphibians year-round from crossing the street. Depending on the protection concept they conduct amphibians reliably to a crossing aid or a collecting container and thus make an important contribution to animal welfare and wildlife conservation. 34 Stationary amphibian guidance wall

2 TYPE Stationary amphibian guidance wall Material Basic design Dimension Installation dimension Material thickness Weight Colour Running surface Polyethylene recycling plates 1-shaped vertical and horizontal stiffed 1,080 x 650 mm 1,000 x 500 mm mm 8 9 kg Black or dark green Width 350 mm, 4 sloping Road Equipment Angle hinge Angle dilation Option Perforation by embedded and fix overmolded grids of V2A steel, so that any accumulating water can drain. Way of assembling AL 1 A: Mounting on existing mesh fence, without running surface, without backfilling possibility AL 1 A L: Mounting on existing mesh fence, with running surface, without backfilling possibility AL 1 B: Mounting on open field with steel or plastic posts, without running surface, without backfilling possibility AL 1 BL: Mounting on open field with steel or plastic posts, with running surface, without backfilling possibility AL 1C: Mounting on open field with reinforced steel posts, without running surface, with backfilling possibility AL 1 CL: Mounting on open field with reinforced steel posts, with running surface, with backfilling possibility * Angle hinge mounting for angles from 20 up to 340 for all types possible Mounting Mounting the amphibian guidance wall, each single plate is overlapping about 80mm at the joints. The fixation of the guidance walls with each other and to the steel or plastic posts (if mounted on open field) is carried out by using cable ties (standard polypropylene, by request of V2A steel) or screws. The guidance walls have small openings through which the cable ties can be inserted and tightened from the rear. In addition the individual guidance walls are equipped with 3 drilling holes at the front overlapping joint, through which the individual plates can be screwed together as required. All guidance walls come standard with horizontal slots for attaching the running surface. If the running surface is not in use then the plate must be entrenched 15 cm deeply into the soil to prevent the amphibians from slipping through these slots. If it is not possible, due to the ground condition, to dig the plates 15 cm deep into the soil, the guidance wall can be adjusted by using standard tools or project-related it can be produced without any slots. The running surface with a width of approx. 350 mm is just hung up into the guidance wall and fixed with 2 screws. The running surface overlaps at the joints, too. The running surface drops under an angle of approx. 4 outwards and the outer end of the running surface is entrenched approx. 50 mm. By the application of the angle hinge the guidance walls can be bent in any angle between 20 and 340. Therefore only one single additional part is required for installation. Neither heavy-duty equipment nor road closures are necessary for the mounting of the guidance walls. With suitable ground conditions up to 400 m of guidance walls can be installed by 2 people per working day. Material features Recycled/Mixed plastic from polyolefin Colour black or dark green No PVC-additives or other metallic residues Temperature-resistant & dimensionally stable at -30 up to +40 C UV-resistant Hydrophobic thus frost and de-icing salt resistant Bite-resistant against rodents and small game Metal posts from galvanized steel Plastic posts in U-shape UV-resistant Your benefits at a glance Guidance wall by 1-form insurmountable Permanent form-locked connection between guidance wall and running surface No passage possible due to large overlapping joints Anti-theft protection by imprinted customer branding Quick and easy installation Adaptable to any terrain profile Adaptation with standard tools possible No road closures or heavy-duty equipment necessary Due to changes in migratory behavior of the amphibians the guidance wall can be demounted and re-erected By request available with perforation, so accumulating water can drain. The amphibians are reliably held back. Stationary amphibian guidance wall 35

3 MOBILE AMPHIBIAN PROTECTION FENCE Makes an important contribution to animal welfare and conservation The Beilharz amphibian protection fence has been developed to maintain and strengthen nature s ecological balance. Its design was kept simple and restrained on purpose to ensure the amphibian protection fence does not interfere with nature and is hardly to notice once it has been set up. The amphibian protection fence essentially consists of an absolutely rot-resistant and environmentally friendly polyethylene synthetic fabric. The amphibian protection fence is easily and quickly built up in every terrain, either directly on a mesh or veterinary fence or on open field with a tensioning rope and metal posts. 36 Mobile amphibian protection fence

4 TYPE Type Amphibian protection fence Type A Amphibian protection fence Type B Mounting To existing fence On open field Assembly With chain links to existing fence Hot-dip galvanized metal posts at a distance of 2 m 5 m, longitudinal tensioning rope, pegs and chain links to hinge the fence. Experience has shown that the amphibian protection fence is best dug into the soil approx. 10 cm instead of simply attaching it to the ground by nails at short intervals, because the amphibians try to dig their way under the amphibian protection fence. Exceeding protection Supply unit Optional available with exceeding protection Roles each 100 m Road Equipment Fence Height Raw material Mesh size Transparency 60 cm, button strip at the top Polyethylene/Polypropylene Very tight no mesh size No transparency Weight kg /m 2 UV-stabilization According to system KHC, maximum dose Sun protection factor Between 6 and 8 on a scale from 1 to 8 Color Usually green, by request other colours are available. The dyeing is free of AZO-colouring (colouring ban list) and free of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium and formaldehyde. Tensile strength Warp approx. 323 N (DIN 53875)/weft approx. 426 N (DIN 53875) Ultimate elongation Warp approx. 70 %/weft approx. 86 % Reinforcement at the top Fixation Consistency Polypropylene button strip dtex multifilament, high strength; distance button holes approx. 10cm At top button strip The fabric is water-repellent and resistant to salt water, frost, acids and alkalis Important: Due to the high UV-protection and the outstanding quality the amphibian protection fence can remain outside year-round and needs no maintenance under appropriate conditions. Type A Amphibian protection fence with chain links for attachment to existing fences. Type B Amphibian protection fence just like type A, however, in addition with metal posts and longitudinal tensioning ropes for mounting on open field. The fence is dug approx. 10 cm deep into the soil and thus approx. 50 cm visible over the ground. A button strip with integrated button holes in distance of max. 10 cm serves for the easy-going and time-saving installation of the fence at the tensioning rope. A 2 mm strong, slightly retensionable steel rope holds the fence tightly tense. Hotdip galvanized metal posts with attachment rings for the longitudinal tensioning rope are struck in distance from alternatively 2 5 m deeply into the ground and grant safe grip of the amphibian protection fence. Optionally the amphibian protection fence is also available with a exceeding protection. The special polyethylene fabric of the amphibian protection fence is: Non-transparent UV-stabilized Tear-resistant Water-repellent Resistant to salt-water, acids and alkalis The fabric lets pass the wind, but not the amphibians The amphibian protection fence is supplied in handy 100 m roles. Experience has shown that the amphibian protection fence is best dug into the soil approx. 10 cm instead of simply attaching it to the ground by nails at short intervals, because the amphibians try to dig their way under the amphibian protection fence.
