1 Seal System Seismic Acquisition System with Fluid or Solid Streamers

2 Seal System Sercel has been manufacturing and providing seismic data acquisition equipment for over 40 years. This long term commitment to the seismic industry has produced a stream of products that have often revolutionized the state of the industry at the time. The Seal System represents the fruit of all technological innovations that Sercel has initiated particularly in terms of electronics integration and architectural fl exibility.

3 Seal System The latest technology applied to marine seismic Sercel expertise in the fi eld of seismic acquisition systems and marine towed arrays is well recognized. The Seal System is the result of years of development of acquisition systems for use on land, gaining improvements through fl exibility in their architecture, higher integration of electronics, lower power consumption and higher reliability. Believing that such characteristics will address today s marine seismic acquisition needs, Sercel took advantage of its knowhow and of its experience in streamer design and manufacturing to develop the Seal System. This new System is the fruit of advanced technology applied to its on-board as well as in-sea components. With modern and intuitive front-end software, the Seal System brings to the World of Marine seismic acquisition two major break-throughs : Advanced flexible architecture for an optimal productivity Thanks to its fl exible architecture the Seal System fulfi lls the requirements of today and probably tomorrow. On-board, the Central Unit of the Seal System can be interfaced with any of the external systems used in the instrument room (i.e :source synchronizer, positioning and navigation systems, processing systems) and the auxiliary channels acquisition unit can be easily placed in the most convenient location. Out-board, taking advantage of the power of fully distributed electronics, the section overlap, the number of hydrophones per channel and their location can be tailored to better fi t the changing demands of sophisticated and complex marine surveys, and particularly those requiring group intervals as short as m. Furthermore, data transmission and power supply benefi t from a highly reliable redundant architecture for an optimal productivity. 4 Small diameter fluid or solid arrays Sercel has always been at the cutting edge of the technology and its successive developments have now led to integrated electronics with low power consumption. Fluid sections Sections have a diameter no bigger than 50 mm, the smallest sections of any marine acquisition systems available today. With a gain of at least 40% in terms of bulk volume compared to other fl uid streamers available today on the market, reinforced by the low profi le canisters that streamline them within the sections of the streamer, the Seal System opens door to either smaller vessels or more streamers per vessel for higher productivity. Solid Seal The solid Seal has been designed to meet the challenges offered by the marine seismic acquisition environment. The solid cable design offers increased noise attenuation over fl uid fi lled sections during periods of marginal weather conditions, thereby extending the data collection window. Inherent to its design, the Solid Seal is not affected by, what is commonly referred to as, «Bulge Waves». The pulling of the vessel and seas on the streamer, which causes the fl uid within the section to slosh back and forth, induces «Bulge Waves» creating pressure on the hydrophones. The absence of streamer fl uid enables seismic operations in the World s environmentally sensitive areas. Built to withstand the forces of nature endured during marine seismic operations, the Solid Seal is the strongest marine streamer available today. The mechanical design has incorporated a breaking strength to working load ratio of 4:1, which will extend the working life of the cable. The integration of the distributed electronics into the solid cable will provide for a more reliable platform for the electronics, which will directly impact and improve product reliability.
