10 What is a seismic survey? FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS A seismic survey is a technique utilizing sound to develop images of the rock layers below the ground which allows prediction of the presence and location of oil and gas in the ground Is seismic survey harmful to the environment? Safety to people and environment is our top priority. Extensive work together with relevant government authorities and environmental experts have been done to develop a robust safety plan safely through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). We will ensure that all activities are carried out to the highest standards and welcome any feedback from the community through the Community Liaison Officer at Will my property or backyard be damaged by the recording? The Company will ensure that all operations will be carried out in accordance with industry standards. Other than holes drilled, there is very little likelihood of damage to the property or backyard. The size of the seismic source is usually reduced closer to buildings (or sensitive sites) as an added precaution. You may contact the Community Liaison Officer during the duration of the survey for any matters arising from the work carried out. My young children and elderlies are sensitive to noise; will the recording affect them in any way? There is little likelihood of disruptions to household routines in the survey areas. A vibration can be felt, similar to when a truck passes through a main road. I have crops and fruit trees in my field; will the survey affect my plants? Other than holes drilled, there is very little likelihood of damage to your land. The holes will be restored to its original state as much as possible when the crew returns to retrieve the equipment in your yard. We encourage you to contact the Community Liaison Officer should you have any concerns or queries. Who are the people coming to work in my neighbourhood? The contractor for this project is Hong Hua and they have hired a survey crew for the survey. The crew is skilled and has many years of experience in survey work all over Myanmar. They will be accompanied by Permit Officers. A rigorous Code of Conduct has been agreed with contractors to ensure appropriate, respectful behavior as well as strict adherence to health, safety and environmental practices. What time should I anticipate the survey to occur? The operations will start in the early hours of the morning and continue throughout the day. This may at times extend into the late evenings but care will be taken to minimize this. The work is not expected to stay in one area over a long duration and will move along to another area over time. Daily operations start at first light where workers will be on the road by 7am; work will proceed all day and stops at dusk 7pm.
