Plan reviews are active for 180 days from the application date. Applications may be extended for an additional 180 days upon written request if shown that the delay is due to circumstances beyond the control of the applicant. NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis ( ) refer to Code sections of the 2007 edition of the, Mechanical Code(CMC) California Plumbing Code (CPC), California Building Code (CBC), California Fire Code (CFC), 2007 California Electrical Code (CEC), 2008 California Energy Standards (title 24), and Asterisk (*) refers to local ordinance. INSTRUCTIONS: Corrections with circled item numbers apply to this plan review. In the left hand margin of the circled corrections, please indicate the sheet number and detail or note number on the plans where the corrections are made. Resubmit three corrected sets of plans wet stamp, calculations and this plan review list. Incomplete or unreadable plans or calculations will not be accepted. The plan reviewer will be available for conference and telephone calls between the hours of and on the following days: - Appointments are recommended. Incorporate all comments as marked on the checked set of plans and calculations and this corrections sheet. A GENERAL HVAC REQUIREMENTS 1. Plans shall bear the license number and signature of an architect, engineer or contractor licensed in the appropriate discipline (Chapter 7, Division 3, Business and Professional Code, Article 2, Section ) 2. Show the job address and APN number on the plans. 3. Plans shall be clearly legible, and to a scale no smaller than 1/8 inch per foot.

2 4. Show equipment schedule on the plans. 5. Show the occupancy of each area. 6. Show the intended use of each room. 7. Show all fire partition walls and ceilings. 8. Indicate if rated corridors are tunnel type or full height. ( ) B - FURNACES 1. The furnace shall maintain a minimum 6 inch clearance on all sides. (911.1) 2. Show location and size of permanent access to the furnace. (305.0) 3. Indicate access to the equipment on the roof. (904.10) 4. Floor furnaces shall be installed not less than 6 inches above grade. Clearances must be per the manufactures specifications or this section which ever is more stringent. (912.7) 5. Show location and size of all combustion- air ducts. (701.10) 6. Provide calculations for the combustion air openings. ( ) 7. Combustion-air ducts shall be of galvanized steel. (701.10) 8. Dampers are not allowed in combustion- air ducts. (701.11) 9. Gas vents shall terminate per table 8-1 & 8-2 provided the vents are at least 8ft. from a vertical wall or similar obstruction. All other vents shall terminate not less than 2ft. above the highest point where they pass through the roof, and at least 2ft. higher than any portion of the building within 10ft. ( ) 10. Specify the type of vent to be used. (802.6) 11. The vent diameter shall be equal to or greater than the diameter of the vent collar of the appliance.( #2) 12. A single wall vent shall be at least 5 feet above the vent collar. ( ) 13. Vents shall extend above the roof and shall terminate in a vent cap. Termination point shall be at least 3 feet above any forced air inlet into the building located within 10 feet. ( ) 14. Vents shall terminate at least 4 feet below or horizontally from, and 1 foot above any opening into the building. ( ) 15. Type B or L vents shall extend vertically; offsets shall not exceed 45 degrees except one 60 degree offset is allowed. ( ) 16. The total horizontal run of a vent plus the length of horizontal vent connector shall not exceed 75% of the vertical height of the vent. (805.1) 17. Vents shall not extend into or pass through ducts or plenums. ( ) 18. Connectors entering a common venting system shall be offset. (809.2) 19. The area of a common vent connector shall not be less than the area of the largest vent connectors plus 50% of the area of the smaller flue collar outlets ( )

3 C - AIR CONDITIONING 1. Provide a primary and a secondary condensate drain (watertight pan) for cooling coils installed above the ceiling or furred spaces. The secondary drain shall terminate in a visible location. The minimum slope of the condensate shall be 1/8 inch per foot slope. (310.1 &310.2) 2. Show on the plans the duct materials and gages. Gages shall be per Tables 6-1, 6-2 & 6-3. (602.1) 3. Air moving systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within the building shall be equipped with an automatic shutoff. (609.0) 4. Ducts shall be constructed in accordance with Ch. 6 (602.1) 6. Corridors shall not be used to convey air or from rooms if the corridors is fire resistive construction. (602.1) 7. Listed fire dampers and smoke dampers are required to be installed at all duct penetration through fire rated shafts. ( ) 8. Provide a copy of the manufacturer s installation instructions for the mechanical equipment used. 9. Provide a permanent roof access. ( ) 10. Provide outside combustion air per. (701.4) 11. Make-up air shall be electronically interlocked with their associated exhaust systems. (509.9) 12. Backdraft dampers shall be provided in outdoor air supply and exhaust systems. (Title 24, Sec 150 (m) 7) 13. Provide an economizer in every cooling unit exceeding 2,500 cfm. (Title 24, Sec 144 (e)) 14. Show thermostats. (Title 24, Sec. 122) 15. (Title 24, Sec 144(g); 152(c)) D - VENTILATION SYSTEM GENERAL 1. Exhaust ducts under positive pressure and venting systems shall not extend into or pass through ducts or plenums. (504.1) 2. Show location and sizes of all ventilation ducts & openings. 3. Environmental exhausts duct shall terminate outside the building and shall be equipped with a back-draft damper. (504.2 #4) 4. Exhaust outlets shall be 3 feet from the property line; 3 feet from opening into the building. (504.5) 5. Product conveying exhaust outlets shall be 3 feet from the property line, 3 feet from the exterior roof/wall; 10 feet from opening into the building; 10 feet above grade. ( ) 6. Make-up air shall be provided for all rooms with exhaust. (505.3) 7. All gas pipe sizes must be per chapter 12 in the 2007 California Plumbing Code.

4 CORRIDOR VENTILATION- See commercial building plan check list GARAGE VENTILATION -See commercial building plan check list TOILET ROOMS 8. Provide adequate room ventilation rates. (403.0 thru 403.6) 9. Toilet exhausts shall terminate at least 3 feet from property line and 3 feet from openings into any building. (504.5) 10. The make-up air system shall be interlocked with the associated exhaust system. 11. Show make-up air for toilet exhaust. 12. Provide a duct type smoke detector in the toilet exhaust system exceeding 2,000 cubic feet per minute. (609.0) 13. Toilet exhaust ducts shall be made of metal. 14. Toilet exhaust ducts under positive pressure shall not extend into or pass through ducts or plenums. (504.1) 15. Provide combination fire/smoke dampers when the toilet exhaust ducts penetrate a fire rated shaft or an area seperation and 16. occupancy seperation wall. LAUNDRY ROOMS 17. Exhaust duct for domestic dryers shall be 4 inches minimum and shall not exceed a total length of 14 feet including two degree elbows in excess of two. Two feet shall be deducted for each 90 degree elbow in excess of two. ( ) 19. Provide an approved variance allowing to exceed 14 feet for the dryer vent. ( ) 20. Dryer exhausts shall terminate at least 3 feet from the property line and 3 feet from openings into any building. (504.5) 21. Dryer exhaust ducts shall be made out of metal. ( ) 22. Clothes dryer moisture exhaust duct shall not extend into or through ducts or plenums. ( ) 23. Exhaust ducts shall terminate outside of the building and shall be equipped with back-draft dampers. (504.1) 24. Provide a minimum 100 square inches of make up air to the laundry room communicating to a conditioned space, or provide calculations stating make up air is not needed.( ) 25. The make-up air system shall be interlocked with the associated exhaust system. 26. Laundry room make-up air shall take into consideration the air exhausted by the dryers. (505.3) 27. Provide combustion air openings. (701.1) 28. Type 1 and type 2 dryer exhaust must be per (CMC & 905.5). E - KITCHEN HOODS TYPE 1 HOODS 1. Provide kitchen layout plans showing location of hoods, ducts, shafts, make-up air, openable windows and their area, and the volume of the kitchen. (508&509)

5 2. Provide roof plans showing the location of the kitchen exhaust blower, property line and any openings into the building. ( ) 3. Provide make-up air. (505.3) 4. Show sizes, gauges, and materials of all ducts and hoods. ( ) 5. Specify on the plans the listed grease filter or other approved grease filtering devise. (509.1) 6. List type and dimensions of cooking equipment on the plans. 7. Provide elevations showing finished floor, cooking equipment, grease exhaust hood, distance between cooking equipment and grease filters, overhang, finished ceiling, flushing, fire rated shaft, clearance between duct and shaft, cleanouts, slope of horizontal ducts, roof blower, diverter, distance of outlet termination above roof. In compensating hoods, also show the makeup air duct and factory built-in fire damper. (Chapter 5 CMC) 8. Each exhaust outlet within a hood shall serve not more than a 12-foot section of hood. (508.8) 9. Duct system shall have a slope not less than ¼ inch per lineal foot toward the hood of toward the hood or toward an approved grease reservoir. When horizontal ducts exceed 75 feet in length, the slope shall not be less than 1 inch per lineal foot. ( ) 10. Duct enclosures from the point of ceiling, wall or floor penetration shall be at least one hour, except it shall be two-hour fire resistive construction in Type I & II buildings. (508.4) 11. The duct enclosure shall be sealed around the duct at the point of penetration. (508.4) 12. A clearance of at least 3 inches and not more than 12 inches shall be maintained between duct and enclosure. (508.2) 13. Provide product literature for the grease exhaust blower and the make-up air fan, showing cubic feet per minute, static pressures, and if required, listing by a nationally recognized testing and listing agency. 14. Provide manufactures installation instruction for the cooking equipment showing that it is listed by a nationally recognized testing and listing agency. 15. Provide manufactures information for compensating and/or ventless hoods. The equipment shall be listed by a nationally recognized testing and listing agency. 16. Provide calculations for sizing exhaust fans and make-up air units. Calculations shall show that the fan is capable of providing the minimum required volume of air. (509.7) 17. Air velocity within the duct system shall not be less than 300 cubic feet per minute. ( ) 18. Exposed grease duct/hood systems serving a Type I hood shall have a clearance from unprotected combustible construction of at least 18 inches. Clearance may be reduced to not less than 3 inches when the combustible construction is protected with material required for one-hour fire-resistive construction. ( ) 19. Hoods less than 12 inches from the ceiling or wall shall be flashed solidly with materials as specified in Sec (509.4) 20. Exhaust outlets serving grease duct systems shall be 24 inches above roof surface, 10 feet from property line, 10 feet from air intake openings, and 10 feet above adjoining grade. (508.9) 21. Type I hoods for use over solid-fuel cooking equipment shall be provided with separate exhaust systems. (517.0) 22. Remove all the return air grills from the kitchen area. (906.6) 23. Indicate on plans what provisions have been made for fire protection in the hood and in the duct. (513.0) 24. The fire-extinguishing system shall be interconnected to the fuel or current (electrical) supply so that the fuel or current(electricity) is automatically shot off to all equipment under the hood when the system is actuated. ( ) 25. The exhaust and make-up air systems shall be connected by electrical interlock switches. (509.9) 26. Provide clearance from the Yolo County Health Department.

6 27. Provide clearance from the Yolo/ Solano Air Quality Management District. 28. Accessible cleanouts shall be provided at 10 foot intervals and at changes of direction. Access openings shall also be provided for sprinklers, and equipment that require servicing. (506.3) TYPE II HOODS 29. Provide kitchen layout plans showing location of hoods, ducts, eventual shafts and make-up air. (508.0) 33. Provide roof plans showing the location of the kitchen exhaust blower, property line and any openings into the building. ( ) 30. Provide make-up air. (505.3) 31. Show sizes, gauges, and materials of all ducts and hoods. ( ) 32. Specify on the plan, the make, model, horse power, cubic feet per minute and static pressure rating of fans used. 33. List type of cooking equipment on plans. 34. Provide elevations showing finished floor, equipment under the hood, hood, distance between finished ceiling, flushing, eventual fire rated shaft, clearance between duct and shaft, cleanouts, roof, blowers, diverter, distance of outlet termination above the roof. (Per Ch 5) 35. Each exhaust outlet within a hood shall serve not more than a 12 foot section of hood. (508.8) 36. Provide manufactures installation instructions for the exhaust blower and the make-up air fan, showing cubic feet per minute, static pressures, and, if required, listing by a nationally recognized testing and listing agency. 37. Provide manufactures information for the cooking equipment showing that it is listed by a nationally recognized testing and listing agency. 38. Provide calculations for sizing exhaust fans and make-up air units. Calculations shall show that the fan is capable of providing the minimum required volume of air determined by formulas. ( ) 39. Remove all of the return air grills from the kitchen area. (906.6) 40. The exhaust and make-up air systems shall not be interconnected with any other building ventilation or exhaust system.( ) 41. Provide access for cleaning within 3 feet on each side of the fan location. ( ) 42. Provide kitchen plans showing location of hoods, duct shafts, make-up air, openable windows and their area, and the volume of the kitchen. (508.0) 43. Provide a list of items (menu) to be cooked or baked under the hood. ( ) F - REFRIGERATION MACHINERY ROOMS 1. A 3 foot wide and 6 feet 8 inches high clearance shall be provided around at least two sides of all moving machinery. (CMC ) 2. Provide calculation showing that the capacity of the exhaust system complies with the section. (1108) 3. A switch of the break-glass type, controlling the emergency purge ventilation system, shall be provided adjacent to and outside of the exit door. (1108.5)

7 4. A switch controlling fans providing ventilation shall be in glass covered enclosures and shall be located adjacent to and outside of the exit door. (1108.6) 5. Show make-up air inlets and exhaust outlets on the plan. (1108.9) 6. Make-up air shall be from outside the building and shall be equipped with a back draft damper. (1108.9) 7. Exhaust shall be discharged at least 20 feet from the property line. Show this on the plans. (1108.7) 8. Only equipment essential to the operation of the refrigeration system shall be allowed in the machinery room. (1109.1) 9. Show on the plans the make, model, HP, cfm & static pressure rating of all fans. 10. Provide product literature for all fans used showing their cfm & static pressure rating. 11. State type of refrigerant-vapor detectors. (1107.4) G - SMOKE CONTROL - See commercial building plan check list FIRE PUMP ROOM & GENERATOR ROOM 12. Show engine exhaust pipe. 15. Show clearances for the engine exhaust pipe. It shall be a minimum of 18 inches from combustible construction and 2 inches from non-combustible construction when less than 18 inches in diameter. 16. Show termination of engine exhaust pipe. 17. The engine exhaust pipe shall extend above the roof surface, and shall be located not less than 12 inches from any openings into the building, 2 feet from an adjoining building and 7 feet above grade when located adjacent to a public walkway. 18. Enclose the engine exhaust pipe in a fire rated shaft. 19. Show combustion air register size and calculations 20. Dampers are not allowed in combustion air ducts. 21. Show room ventilation. 22. The room ventilation shall be added to the combustion air. 23. Show room ventilation exhaust. 24. Show point of termination outside of the building and the room ventilation. 25.
