1 vdw 525/825 Tree Pit System Resin Binder/ Resin Bound Porous Mortar For pedestrian areas and light traffic loads The vdw 525 (Binder only)/825 (Prebagged Mortar) Tree Pit System is a highly UV stable and non-yellowing, attractive and decorative, solvent-free, one component, polyurethane based resin binder / mortar respectively; used to produce / as a perme able resin bound mortar for Tree Pits in Public and Private areas. The tough, permeable structure improves appearance, reduces the build-up of litter and the incidence of dog fouling, plus removes a potential slip and trip hazard and a hiding place for hazardous items. These highly adaptable mortars are also ideal for the following uses: Sett and slab paving / banding in a contrasting colour or texture Decorative features and designs Resin Bound Surfacing Natural Brown / beige Anthracite Quality for Professionals

2 Preparation and Application of the vdw 825 Tree Pit System (Prebagged) Requirements: A compacted and stable bed of loose dry gravel or chippings suitable for the anticipated loading is first installed, normally around mm thick following compaction in public areas and a minimum of 40 mm in other situations. The finished Tree Pit System surface design level, and any slope to drainage for additional water run-off, plus allowance for a uniform 40 mm thickness of the Tree Pit system must be prepared. Any oil, grease or other dirt and contamination must be completely removed. Tools: Stirrer, a drill with spherical mixing paddles, forced action drum mixer, mortar buckets, shovel, brushes, smoothing and floating trowels and ancillary tools. Preparation: Surface, substrate and chamfers must be thoroughly cleaned. Also clean, mask and protect adjacent areas. Trial areas: On some sensitive natural stone setts and concrete block paving, contact with the vdw 525 binder / vdw 825 mortar can result in potentially irreversible changes in appearance, such as darkening and/or spotting. Always apply a test area first! Material preparation (vdw 825 mortar): Shake vigorously and then add the entire liquid resin binder component (inner bottle) to the powder component, which has been premixed dry, in the plastic tub supplied and mix thoroughly. Then decant the mixed material into a clean container and mix again. Mixing time: minimum 5 minutes in a forced action drum mixer aka with a drill with spherical mixing paddles or with a stirrer. Do not add additional water. Mixing of mortars produced with the vdw 525 binder can also be carried out in a forced action drum mixer, again for a minimum of 5 minutes. Mortar Application: Apply the mixed vdw 525 / vdw 825 mortar onto the prepared base. Spread roughly with a shovel / trowel and compact to the right thickness and levels using timber, plastic or metal battens. Ensure complete compaction and trowel float finish the surface. Curing: Use barriers and rain protection on and around freshly laid areas for a period of at least 12 hours (at 20 C / 68 F). These can then be opened to light pedestrian traffic. The areas can be fully released for service and traffic after 7 days. In principle a retained sample or surface strength test (i.e. Schmidt Hammer) can be carried out before the areas go into service. 2

3 Preparation and Application of vdw 525 Resin Bound Mortars The vdw 525 resin binder is suitable for the production of mortars when mixed with graded dust-free and dried mineral materials in particle sizes of: 2 5 mm 5 8 mm 8 11 mm The contents of the aluminium bottle (0,8 kg) can be used to bind a maximum of 25 kg of mineral materials (max. 20 kg with glass as the aggregate). For use, follow the preparation, mixing, application and curing instructions for the vdw 825 Prebagged Tree Pit mortar. 5 Typical uses Sett and slab paving banding The same materials can be used to produce coloured bands and or fill design features or other irregular shapes in stone sett paving and concrete block paving areas, the vdw 825 mortar is available in the same colour range as our paving jointing mortars to assist your design. Tree pit system vdw 825 Tree Pit mortar is an ideal product for tree pits due to its high water permeability, excellent UV stability, cleaning properties and outstanding durability, which mean that the tree pit will retain its fresh new look for years. Wedge and curved shaped areas The vdw 825 mortars are also ideal to simplify the production of these types of difficult decorative paved features. Edge supports for sett and slab paving Edge joints can be produced by combining these resin bound mortars with your Upstand kerbs to create lawn and Planting area edges which protect the rest of the paved surface and the water permeability of vdw 525 / vdw 825 mortars can help to prevent the grass from losing its fresh green look in summer. 5 vdw 525 / 825 Tree Pit System Resin Binder/ Resin Bound Porous Mortar For pedestrian areas and light traffic loads

6 Consumption of vdw 825 Prebagged Tree Pit mortar The consumption figures stated in the table below refer to fully installed material. The natural shape of stone setts and different paving designs may result in variations to these values. If in doubt, please carry out trials to determine the actual consumption on test areas.
