2 ProLine Pipes With ProLine pipes, EPS Group has introduced the latest high-tensile, high-impact upvc threaded pipes popularly known as column pipes for submersible pumps. ProLine pipes are an excellent, high-quality and unique alternative for conventional steel pipes. Every bore well and deep well submersible pump require a delivery pipe to transport water out of the well. This delivery pipe is called a riser pipe, column pipe or drop pipe. The riser pipe is an important part of the system due to two reasons; one, it delivers the water and two, the complete pump is connected to it. upvc riser pipes are the best alternative to galvanized or steel pipes as they are 100% corrosion resistant and bacteria free. 3 Features 100% METAL FREE ProLine pipes are 100% metal free. Not only is the upvc compound lead free as well as heavy metal free, the use of a metal connecting pin is avoided due to the special high friction threads. All this gives a metal free, leak proof column pipe. BI-AXIAL ORIENTATION Used to ensure higher drop and notch impact strength for column pipes. STRESS-FREE The annealing process of slowly heating and cooling the upvc parts relieves stress in the product, thus improving the mechanical properties and life of the product. VARIABLE WALL THICKNESS ProLine pipes are made thicker at the threaded end to compensate for material loss in the threading process. The thickness at the threaded end is, therefore, the same as the general thickness of the pipe resulting in a pipe that has the same strength over the whole length. HIGH FRICTION THREADS ProLine pipes feature high friction square threading designed to withstand higher loads. FAST AND EASY ASSEMBLY ProLine pipes can be assembled easily and quickly without the need for sophisticated installation tools. 100% LEAK PROOF JOINTS O-rings at every connection ensure a 100% leak proof column pipe. 100% QUALITY CHECK All ProLine pipes and accessories pass stringent quality control checks to ensure the best quality. JOINTS WITH COUPLER AND SECURE CONNECTION Joints with coupler and secure connection avoid any rotation due to vibration or movement. SMOOTH WALL SURFACE The smooth internal pipe surface reduces head loss and prevents scale build up. 3

4 Special upvc Formulation ProLine pipes are produced using a proprietary upvc (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) formulation. The formulation ensures that the pipes have both a high tensile and high-impact strength. These properties make the column pipes or drop pipes capable of handling both the internal hydrostatic pressure as well as the huge vertical tensile load resulting from the water column and pump weight. The formulation also ensures that the threads do not become brittle or get chipped off even after repeated loosening and/or tightening during their lifetime. ProLine column pipes have a dual function to perform. On one hand, these pipes have to withstand the hydrostatic pressure of the pump delivery. This pressure is the highest in the first pipe connected to the pump and can run as high as 35 kg/cm 2. On the other hand, the top most pipe has to bear the load of the entire column filled with water along with the weight of the pump, the total may be close to 2 tons. The ability to handle this dual load is a unique feature and requires special manufacturing techniques. Bi-axial orientation To make the ProLine pipes as strong as possible, the molecules are orientated in two axes during the extrusion of the pipes by simultaneously extruding and rotating. The molecules then intersect, creating additional bonds between them. The realignment of the PVC strands increases the drop and notch impact resistance and the strength of the pipes PVC molecule Intersecting, joined PVC molecules 4

6 Frictional Headloss The height to which water is to be pumped has to be estimated very accurately. This is very important, especially in steep terrains. The length of the pipeline and the height to which water is to be pumped, together with the depth of the water level and frictional head loss in the pipes determine the total head load on the pump set. 10 Frequently Asked Questions WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF upvc PIPES? Strength to weight ratio, light weight Long-term tensile strength Low co-efficient of friction High impact strength Watertight joints Flexibility HOW DO PROLINE PIPES AFFECT THE QUALITY OF WATER? ProLine pipes are made from a high-grade virgin PVC and upvc mix. The best way to judge the quality of a upvc pipe is to check how translucent it is. ProLine column pipes let a lot of light pass through which will tell you that there are no impurities in the material. HOW DO PROLINE PIPES AFFECT THE QUANTITY OF WATER? Years of engineering have led to the production of upvc pipes with low friction loss, thus offering higher flow rates than compared to steel or HDPE pipes. CAN THE STRENGTH OF UPVC PIPES BE COMPARED WITH THAT OF STEEL PIPES? The specific gravity of upvc ranges between 1.4 g/cm 3 and 1.45 g/cm 3 whereas the specific gravity of steel is 8 g/cm 3. To compensate for this difference, ProLine pipes have thicker walls compared to GI or steel pipes, resulting in a lightweight pipe without compromising the strength, safety or life of the product. ProLine pipes are easy to handle. Whereas handling a 4, 3m steel pipe requires 2-3 people, a similar ProLine pipe can be handled by only one person. DO COLUMN PIPES NEED FULL CASING IN THE BORE? Column pipes give best results in bore wells which have full casing or which are free of loose boulders and stones. In cases where loose boulders and stones are prevalent, either a full casing should be installed or the bore should be made slightly larger so that the pump does not get stuck. In areas with loose soil and silt, the bore hole could collapse, this can be tackled by installing a casing. Care should be taken when drilling the bore well. The bore should be vertically straight and free from any bends. WHAT SHOULD BE THE BORE SIZE WITH RESPECT TO THE OUTER DIAMETER OF THE PUMP? For bore wells without casing pipe and in areas where loose boulders are present in the bore, it is suggested that the size of the bore should be at least 5 cm (2 ) more than the outer diameter of the pipe. This is to prevent the pump from getting stuck due to loose boulders. For borewells with casing pipe, a minimum gap of 1.25 cm (½ ) between the internal diameter of the casing and the outer diameter of the pump is recommended. WHY IS THERE A VARIATION IN THICKNESS OF THE PIPES? The thickness of the pipes is designed to take into consideration the weight of the pump, the weight of the water column and the pump delivery pressure. The ends of the pipes are made thicker so that when cutting the threads and removing the material, the barrel thickness remains the same and provides the same strength throughout its length. CAN ANY OTHER METAL ADAPTORS BE USED? The adaptors supplied by Global Water Solutions have passed through a rigorous quality control for checking the hardness, quality of casting, any defects, thickness and accuracy of threads. Hence it is recommended that only accessories supplied by Global Water Solutions are used. WHAT IS THE USE OF PUMP GUARD? In areas with excessive sand pumping or in case of a defective, unbalanced, pump fitting, the resulting vibration may lead to breakage of the pipe near the adaptor. Pump guards are used in such cases so that even after failure of the column pipes, the pumps are easily retrieved. 10
