THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE MADE AND HEREBY BECOME A PART OF THIS SOLICITATION AS PREPARED BY PROCUREMENT: Replace: Remove Section CARPET and REPLACE with the attached Section CARPET in its entirety. QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES: 1. Q: In Section 09651, Resilient Tile Flooring & Accessories, Page , Paragraph 2.4 D it requires us to provide a liquid floor polish. On Page , Paragraph 3.5 A it requires us to comply with manufacturer s written instructions for cleaning and protecting floor tile. Will you require us to provide and seal the new Solid Vinyl Tile per manufacturer s instructions? R: Yes 2. Q: Will you require the existing carpet that is removed to be recycled? R: No 3. Q: Please confirm that this is a non-prevailing wage contract. R: There will be no federal funds used for this project; therefore the Davis Bacon Act does not apply. 2 4. Q: Because there is no expectancy for W/MBE participation established for subject bid, do we need to submit the Letter of Intent Forms and with our bid? R: Bidders not using a W/MBE firm for any scope of work are not required to submit the Letter of Intent Forms with their bid response. Please see Section INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS, Page , Paragraph D where it states No expectancy for W/MBE participation has been established for this bid. However, Bidders are strongly encouraged to propose participation by W/MBEs to perform commercially useful functions of the work required in the Bid by submitting a Letter of Intent for each proposed W/MBE as part of their bid. 5. Q: In Section Carpet, Page , Item I, Paragraph 7.b. Please confirm that the quantity is to be 1,556 Sq. Yd. and the installation of that carpet for the Boarding Bridges and Walkways will be by others. R: Correct 6. Q: Has there been any approved submittal of products from a manufacturer other than Mohawk and Bloomsburg for the CPT-1 and CPT-2 Woven Carpet as Specified? R: No, there has not. Please note that no manufacturer is excluded, provided they can meet or exceed the specification. Additionally, Mohawk and Bloomsburg must still comply with the specification requirements. 7. Q: Please confirm that Ramps #1 through #7 are to be included within subject bid for the provision of the furnishing of Carpet CPT-1 and CPT-2 and the installation of same. R: Correct, the Contractor will provide and install carpet at the ramps as indicated in the bid documents. Please see Drawing Numbers A002 and A003 for an overview of the areas to be provided with carpet. Also note that there is no ramp Q: Sheet A109: Note CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE W/ HCAA FOR THE TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF WORKSTATIONS TO INSTALL CARPET. Please confirm that these workstations are to be relocated and replaced by the Contractor. Also, please confirm whether the power and data connections to this furniture are to be handled by the Contractor or by HCAA Maintenance? Power and data disconnection and reconnection will require a qualified electrician and cabling technician to perform this minor scope of work. R: The Contractor is responsible for the temporary relocation of the workstations and reinstalling them back to their original location once the carpet installation is complete. HCAA Maintenance will perform the power and data connections necessary for the temporary relocation and reinstallation of the workstations. 3 9. Q: Sheet A110: Note: EXISTING NEWS STAND THIS AREA. COORDINATE THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF CARPET IN THIS AREA WITH HCAA. There are several pieces of permanently mounted casework in this area which are not shown on the plans. This would include the sales counter and casework around the canopy support columns. Please confirm that the intent is to carpet up to all permanent casework. R: Correct. Carpeting will terminate at all permanently mounted casework. 10. Q: Sheet A110: Note COORDINATE TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF EXISTING TICKET COUNTERS W/ HCAA TO CONT. CARPET BELOW. RETURN COUNTER TO THE ORIGINAL LOCATION, TYP. Please confirm whether the power and data connections to this furniture are to be handled by the Contractor or by HCAA Maintenance? Power and data disconnect and reconnect will require a qualified electrician and cabling technician to perform this minor scope of work. R: The Contractor is responsible for the temporary relocation of the ticket counters and reinstalling them back to their original location once the carpet installation is complete. HCAA Maintenance will perform the power and data connections necessary for the temporary relocation and reinstallation of the ticket counters. 11. Q: Sheet A112: At the area where the SVT-1 is to be installed, there is a large piece of custom millwork that makes up the bar in this area. This piece of millwork is occupied by a HCAA tenant and is assumed to be their property. There is no detail in the plans stating how this will be moved for vinyl tile installation. Please confirm that the relocation of this piece of millwork will be handled by the HCAA and their tenant. R: Correct. 4 SECTION CARPET PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Woven carpet, glue down. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section "Selective Demolition" for removing existing floor coverings. 2. Section "Resilient Tile Flooring and Accessories" for resilient wall base and accessories installed with carpet. 1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site a minimum of (1) week prior to commencing work of this section. Require attendance of manufacturer, installer, contractor, owner, architect, and other parties directly affecting the work of this section. 1. Review methods and procedures related to carpet installation including, but not limited to, the following: a. Review delivery, storage, and handling procedures. b. Review ambient conditions and ventilation procedures. c. Review subfloor preparation procedures. d. Review work hours windows and proposed contractor phasing schedule. e. 6 1.5 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For the following, include installation recommendations for each type of substrate: 1. Carpet (All carpets specified) a. Provide all manufacturer s installation requirements and instructions. Include adhesive types, trowel sizes, spread rates, open times, and Material Safety data sheets (MSDS) for all adhesives b. Provide manufacturer s written data on physical characteristics and certificate of compliance with all specified performance requirements. c. Provide manufacturer s certificate of accessibility compliance. This should include specifically but not limited to 2012 Florida Accessibility Code, including Chapter 302 Floor or Ground Surfaces and Carpet and/or the Florida Building Code for floor or ground surfaces and carpet for pile thickness. d. Provide manufacturer s certificate of compliance with the CRI Green label plus air quality certification. Specifically, the carpet provided shall have a pass rating. 2. Carpet Backing (All backing specified) a. Provide manufacturer s written data on physical characteristics and durability. 3. Carpet Adhesive. a. Provide data indicating adhesive complies with manufacturer s recommendation for carpet to be installed and slab condition. b. Provide adhesive manufacturer s Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all adhesives. c. Provide compliance statement and indicate that adhesive complies with specification and specifications Low VOC Content. B. Shop Drawings: Show the following: 1. Columns, doorways, enclosing walls or partitions, built-in cabinets, and locations where cutouts are required in carpet. 2. Carpet type, color, and dye lot. 3. Seam locations, types, and methods. 4. Type of subfloor. 5. Type of installation. 6. Pattern type, repeat size, location, direction, and starting point. 7. Pile direction. 8. Type, color, and location of edge, transition, and other accessory strips. 9. Transition details to other flooring materials. C. Samples: For each of the following products and for each color and texture required. Label each Sample with manufacturer's name, material description, color, pattern, and designation indicated on Drawings and in schedules. Authority No CARPET

7 1. Carpet. For each carpet type indicated, provide exact sample and pattern of the carpet no smaller than an 18-inch x 27-inch sample for architect and owners approval prior to production. 2. Exposed Edge, Transition and Other Accessory Stripping. For each indicated provide 12-inch long samples. 3. Seam. Provide exact sample of carpet seam, 12-inch. D. Product Identification Schedule: 1. All product schedules shall match the identification designations indicated on the drawings. E. Installer Minimum Qualifications To Perform Work 1. Provide documentation and references that indicate the installer to be utilized the meets and or exceeds the minimal qualifications as indicated in the specification. F. Warranties: 1. Provide sample warranty with first product data submittal to allow architect / owner sufficient time to review and submit corrective comments as necessary for incorporation into actual project warranty that shall be provided at substantial completion. 2. Provide warranties as specified and required at substantial completion. G. Testing: 1. Certificate of Compliance: Contractor to submit certified test reports confirming that carpet meets all the performance requirements stated above in section 1.4 Performance Requirements. Certificate of Compliance shall also include certification from the fiber producer confirming use of the specified fiber in the submitted carpet product. 2. During carpet installation, the owner shall randomly select additional carpet to be provided by the contractor and tested by an owner furnished independent testing laboratory. This testing will be paid for by the owner. The testing to be performed shall be the minimal required to prove that the carpet provided meets or exceeds the Performance Requirements indicated in this specification. Should any test result not comply with the specified performance requirement, the contractor shall remove any non-compliant carpet and furnish and install compliant carpet. Contractor shall be responsible for all cost if carpet is non-compliant with specification. 3. All testing and performance results shall be performed by an independent testing laboratory. The testing laboratory shall be certified and in good standing with the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). 4. Contractor shall be responsible for all cost if carpet is non-compliant with specification H. Maintenance Instructions 1. At project completion, provide ten (10) copies of manufacturer s recommendations for maintaining and cleaning the specific carpets listed. This Authority No CARPET

8 should include patching, stain-removal, products and procedures and recommended maintenance schedule. Include product data and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for recommended cleaning and stain removal materials. 2. Provide each copy with the front cover clearly indicating the project name, number and title Carpet Maintenance Instructions. 3. At project completion, manufacturer shall provide carpet cleaning demonstration and training at no cost to the owner. I. Extra Materials Attic Stock 1. Furnish extra material from the same product run as installed carpet. 2. All attic stock shall be in accordance with the specifications. 3. Provide attic stock carpet in full-width rolls as specified. 4. All attic stock shall be provided in protective coverings ideal for storage. The coverings shall have attached labels identifying the contents. It shall also include the HCAA project name and project number. 5. Store all attic stock with other carpet to be installed until completion of installation work, or until owner is ready to receive. 6. Contractor shall deliver attic stock to owners desired storage location. 7. Provide percent overage of calculated yardage for each type of carpet (include carpet needed for complete installation plus waste and usable scraps in calculated yardage) as specified below. Recycle waste, unusable scrap and any carpet damaged during installation through manufacturer s environmental program. a) Extra Material #1 CPT-1 & CPT-2 (Airside F Boarding Level Carpet Replacement): 5 percent of total amount installed for each type indicated, but not less than 10 sq. yd. (8.3 sq. m). b) Extra Material #2 - CPT-1 ONLY (Airside Boarding Bridges & Walkways): Full-width rolls equal to 1,556 sq.yd. for installation by others at 13 Boarding Bridges and 5 Walkways located at Airside F Gates 77 through 90. Coordinate delivery schedule with HCAA. 1. Provide manufacturer s written confirmation that carpet furnished for installation at these locations will be warranted for exposure to humidity in a non-conditioned environment. Authority No CARPET

9 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: An experienced Installer, with a minimum of five (5) year s experience, who is certified by the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association or who can demonstrate compliance with its certification program requirements. 1. Installer shall have experience and submit evidence of having furnished and installed woven carpet at major airports or commercial projects with similar size and scope with a minimum of five (5) year s experience. 2. Installer will be responsible for the proper product installation, including floor preparation. 3. Installer shall be mill certified for installing carpet products. B. Fire-Test-Response Ratings: Where indicated, provide carpet identical to those of assemblies tested for fire response per NFPA 253 by a qualified testing agency. C. Mockups: Build on-site mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards for fabrication and installation. 1. Build mockups in location as determined by the Architect and HCAA at the Pre Installation meeting. 2. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. D. Single Source Responsibility: Provide product from a single manufacturer. 1. All styles must come from the same manufacturer. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Comply with CRI 104. B. On-Site Delivery and Storage: Deliver to the Airport only that carpet which is to be installed within 5 days. C. Contractor Staging Areas: There is (1) staging area, see plans for location and coordinate with the Construction Manager for more information. 1.8 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Comply with CRI 104 for temperature, humidity, and ventilation limitations. B. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install carpet until spaces are enclosed and weather tight, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at occupancy levels during the remainder of the construction period. 10 C. Do not install carpet over concrete slabs until slab areas are sufficiently dry to bond with adhesive, and have ph range recommended by carpet manufacturer. D. Where demountable partitions or other items are indicated for installation on top of carpet, install carpet before installing these items. E. Allow carpet to reach room temperature or minimum temperature recommended by manufacturer before beginning installation. F. Follow manufacturer s recommendations for minimum temperatures to which adhesives are exposed. 1.9 FIELD MEASUREMENTS A. All quantities are the responsibility of the bidder and the quantities are to include the carpet manufacturer s maximum coverage requirements including required attic stock WARRANTY A. Manufacturer s Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of carpet installation that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. Manufacturer shall warranty both product and adhesive systems. 1. Warranties must be for Lifetime on all items. 2. Lifetime warranties must cover face components and backing components 3. Warranties must be non-prorated 4. Carpet manufacturer must warrant both product and adhesive systems. a. Fiber must have lifetime static warranty. 5. Supplemental Warranty items: a. Colorfastness to Light. b. 10 Year Colorfastness to Atmospheric Contaminants. c. 10 Year Stain Warranty. B. Installer s Warranty: Installer agrees to repair or replace defective materials and workmanship appearing within 2 years from date of Final Acceptance. 1. Installer agrees to prompt correction during the two year warranty period of any seams, seam raveling, edge loosening, bubbles, sprouting, pilling or fuzzing, wear, tuft bind, static protection, zippering, delamination, dimensional stability or other defects at no additional cost to the Owner. 2. Installer shall provide replacement carpet in sufficient quantity so as not to appear patched. No cross seams are allowed. Authority No CARPET

11 2.PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 WOVEN CARPET CPT-1 A. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, including pattern and color, provide woven carpet by The Mohawk Group, 1975 West Oak Circle, Marietta, GA 30062, or comparable product by the following: 1. Bloomsburg Carpet Industries, Inc., 4999 Columbia Boulevard, Bloomsburg, PA 17815, B. Substitutions or Equals: 1. Substitutions or equals are allowed only if they meet the following criteria: a. Acceptance of alternate product(s) that are accepted as equals must be approved by parties (including, but not limited to) parties that have material interest in the specifications including: Architect and Owner. b. Provide color print-out and data disc for review and approval matching color and pattern noted below. C. Color and Pattern: Match Mohawk Sample J-2154J-2302 (pattern repeats 6-0 x 8-0 ). D. Face Yarn: Type 6, 100 percent solution dyed nylon. All carpet shall have same yarn dye-lot. E. Face Construction: Wilton, 3 Frame Jacquard. F. Pile Characteristic: Cut-and-loop pile, through the back. G. Pile Height:.230-inches Loop/.230-inches Cut. H. Rows: 8 lengthwise tufts per inch. I. Pitch: 216 (8 per inch). J. 13 2.3 INSTALLATION ACCESSORIES A. Trowelable Leveling and Patching Compounds: Latex-modified, hydraulic-cementbased formulation provided or recommended by carpet manufacturer. Compatible with carpet adhesive and curling/sealing compound used on concrete. B. Adhesives: Water-resistant, mildew-resistant, nonstaining type to suit products and subfloor conditions indicated, that complies with flammability requirements for installed carpet and is recommended or provided by carpet manufacturer for direct glue down of carpeting. 1. Use adhesives with VOC content not more than 50 g/l when calculated according to 40 CFR 59, Subpart D (EPA Method 24). C. Seam Adhesive: Hot-melt adhesive tape or similar product recommended by carpet manufacturer for sealing and taping seams and butting cut edges at backing to form secure seams and to prevent pile loss at seams. D. Miscellaneous Materials: As recommended by carpet manufacturer and selected by the Installer to meet project circumstances and requirements; as required to complete installation and approved by the Architect. E. Barricades: Provide approved HCAA barricades as per contract. 3.PART 3 Execution 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for maximum moisture content, alkalinity range, installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting carpet performance. Examine carpet for type, color, pattern, and potential defects. B. Concrete Subfloors: Verify that concrete slabs comply with ASTM F 710 and the following: 1. Slab substrates are dry and free of curing compounds, sealers, hardeners, and other materials that may interfere with adhesive bond. Determine adhesion and dryness characteristics by performing bond and moisture tests listed below as recommended by carpet manufacturer. a. Calcium Chloride Test, ASTM b. Relative Humidity Test, ASTM F c. Alkalinity and Adhesion Testing: Alkalinity of ph in a concrete slab shall be between 5 and 9 for glue down installation. Should the ph be outside this range, do not proceed with the installation. Comply with carpet manufacturer s requirements for moisture transmission mitigation. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Authority No CARPET

14 2. Subfloors are free of cracks, ridges, depressions, scale, and foreign deposits. C. Moisture Mitigation: When moisture content of concrete exceeds maximum limits install crack filler and vapor sealer in accordance with manufacturer s written instructions. Notify Construction Manager in writing if maximum limits are identified. 1. After installation of vapor sealer and prior to flooring installation, conduct a 72- hour bond test to determine adhesion of flooring adhesive to concrete vapor sealer. D. Verify that floor surfaces are smooth and flat within tolerances specified in Section 3.2 and are ready to receive work. E. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. F. Commencement of installation means installer accepts existing substrate conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION A. General: Comply with CRI 104, Section 7.3, "Site Conditions; Floor Preparation," and with carpet manufacturer's written installation instructions for preparing substrates. B. Use trowelable leveling and patching compounds, according to manufacturer's written instructions, to fill cracks, holes, depressions, and protrusions in substrates. Fill or level cracks, holes and depressions 1/16 inch wide or wider, and protrusions more than 1/32 inch (0.8 mm), unless more stringent requirements are required by manufacturer's written instructions. C. Remove coatings, including curing compounds, and other substances that are incompatible with adhesives and that contain soap, wax, oil, or silicone, without using solvents. Use mechanical methods recommended in writing by carpet manufacturer. D. Broom and vacuum clean substrates to be covered immediately before installing carpet. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Comply with CRI 104 and carpet manufacturer's written installation instructions for the following: 1. Direct-Glue-Down Installation: Comply with CRI 104, Section 9, "Direct Glue- Down Installation." B. Comply with carpet manufacturer's written recommendations and Shop Drawings for seam locations and direction of carpet; maintain uniformity of carpet direction and lay of pile. At doorways, center seams under the door in closed position. C. Cut and fit carpet to butt tightly to vertical surfaces, permanent fixtures, and built-in furniture including cabinets, pipes, outlets, edgings, thresholds, and nosings. Bind or seal cut edges as recommended by carpet manufacturer. Authority No CARPET

15 D. Extend carpet into toe spaces, door reveals, closets, open-bottomed obstructions, removable flanges, alcoves, and similar openings and as indicated on the drawings. E. Maintain reference markers, holes, and openings that are in place or marked for future cutting by repeating on finish flooring as marked on subfloor. Use nonpermanent, nonstaining marking device. F. Install pattern parallel to walls and borders to comply with CRI 104, Section 15, "Patterned Carpet Installations" and with carpet manufacturer's written recommendations. G. Keep any seams within the expansion joint area to an absolute minimum. Install carpet over existing expansion joints with release adhesives extending 2-feet from each side of the expansion joint. Any seams within this 4-footwide area shall be made with hot tape. H. Install carpet from same dye lot and run within each continuous carpet area. I. Seal seams with manufacturer recommended seam sealer. J. Use leveling compound where necessary. Feather floor leveling compounds minimum of 4 feet. K. Apply seam adhesive to base of edge glued down. Lay adjoining piece with seam straight, not overlapped or peaked, and free of gaps. L. Roll with appropriate roller for complete contact of adhesive to carpet backing. M. Remove from storage and install all adjacent carpet following manufacturing sequence. Provide all necessary documentation for inventory control, including bill of lading for each shipment, to the Construction Manager. As carpet is unrolled, inspect condition of carpet. Do not install any defective carpet. If defective carpet is found, place aside, clearly mark, and remove from premises. Replace defective carpet with first-quality carpet from same carpet run. All defective carpet must be replaced. N. Remove all trim plates from all floor outlets. Fit carpet around floor boxes and replace trim plates. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Manufacturer shall provide on-site supervision of the initial installation at a minimum, to provide information, technical assistance, and assurance of compliance with manufacturer s installation instructions. B. Verify that installation is complete; work is properly done and acceptable. C. Remove and replace, at no additional cost to Owner, any work found not be acceptable. Authority No CARPET

16 3.5 CLEANING AND PROTECTING A. Perform the following operations immediately after installing carpet: 1. Remove excess adhesive, seam sealer, and other surface blemishes using cleaner recommended by carpet manufacturer. 2. Remove yarns that protrude from carpet surface. 3. Vacuum carpet using commercial machine with face-beater element. B. Protect installed carpet to comply with CRI 104, Section 16, "Protecting Indoor Installations." C. Protect carpet against damage from construction operations and placement of equipment and fixtures during the remainder of construction period. Use protection methods indicated or recommended in writing by carpet manufacturer and carpet adhesive manufacturer. END OF SECTION Authority No CARPET
