2 SITE CONCEPT - Saving Nature - The most important idea of the concept is saving the landscape as much as possible. The existing trees are important for the village - the orange garden is suitable for the housing zone; around the single trees I group the different buildings and in this way I have formed shady open spaces for public activities or rest. Using Nature for local materials means that we also have to take care for Nature. - Separate functions - The site offers apparent separation of the different functions of the village. The house units are at the peaceful and quiet back zone of the site. They are grouped in two circles so as the artists can gather in small groups and exchange ideas in more private environment. There goes the sport and recreation centre wich connects the public with the private zone. The Public centre is located at the entrance of the village. It can accept guests of the village without disturbing the private area with the houses. 5 RAMMED EARTH WALLS - Energy efficient - rammed earth walls provide high thermal mass, which translates into energy savings. Both cooling and heating energy requirements are minimized; - Low maintenance - the natural look eliminates the need for paint or other on-going maintenance; - Noise reduction - The thickness of the walls makes the rammed earth building a quiet heaven; - Strength and safety - These walls don't burn! They are bullet and impact-proof too. Rammed earth walls actually get stronger as they age. Sheet name : Earth walls Date : November, 2010 Scale

6 THATCHED ROOF - Waterproof - a thatched roof that is constructed correctly does not leak even one drop of water. The inside of the palm thatch will stay perfectly dry; - Energy efficient - The thatched roof gives wonderful insulation from the heat of the hot sun.the very thick layers of palm fronds and the high, steeply-pitched roof create cool space. 8 LIVING ROOM OPEN SPACE FOR WORK BEDROOM Concept of the house unit : The house unit is divided in three zones - living room, bedroom and open space. When the weather is rainy and too wet, the artist can work in the quiet and isolated living room. During the hot days, the dweller can enjoy the airy and shady open space.the bedroom at the back of the unit offers comfort and peace.
