Page 2 of 8 SPECIFICATION FOR FUSE DISTRIBUTION BOX FOR COACHES. 1. SCOPE This specification covers general guide lines for design and manufacture of Fuse Distribution Box for use in Railway Coach Wiring working on 110 V DC and 24 V DC supply system. The specification covers the working environmental condition, over all size and general specification of various components to be used for manufacture of Fuse Distribution Board (F.D.B) 2.0 BASIC GENERAL REQUIREMENT AND SERVICE CONDITIONS 2.1 Environmental conditions : Maximum ambient air temp : 57 deg.c. Minimum Temp. : -5 Deg. C. Average ambient air temp. : 35 Deg. C. Maximum relative humidity: 100% Atmosphere: Coastal area: Extremely dusty and desert weather and desert terrain in certain areas. The dust content in air may reach as high values as 1.6 mg/m cub. The equipment shall be designed to work in coastal area in humid, salt laden and corrosive atmosphere. The maximum value of the condition will be as under ;

PH Value 8.5 Sulphate 7 mg/litre Max Concentration 6 mg/litre of chlorine Max. conductivity 130 micro-semen/cm Annual rainfall: Altitudes: Ranging Between 1750 to 6250 mm Not exceeding 1200 m Service condition The Unit shall be suitable for rugged service normally to be met within Railway Rolling Stock, where coaches are expected to run up to a maximum speed of 160 kmph in varying climatic conditions existing throughout India Vibration and shocks The emergency lighting system shall withstand satisfactory vibrations and shock normally encountered in normal service as indicated blow:- (a) Maximum vertical acceleration g (b) Maximum lateral acceleration g. (c ) Maximum longitudinal acceleration g. ( g being the value of acceleration due to gravity) The vibrations are of sine wave from and frequency of vibrations is between 1 Hz and 50 Hz. The amplitude a expressed in mm is given as a function of f by a=25/f for value of f from 1 to 10 Hz. And a=250/f²for the value of F exceeding 10 Hz. and upto 50 Hz.

Page 4 of Power Supply System The Fuse Distribution Box shall be suitable for working on 24 Vd.c and 110V d.c train lighting system on passenger coaches. The maximum voltage on d.c. system will be 130V d.c. 4. Construction 4.1 The fuse distribution board shall be made from Fiber Reinforced Plastic sheet moulding compound (FRPSMC). These shall be of following two types:- (i) For compartment as per ICF Drg. No. GS , Alt. J of (ii) For doorway as per ICF Drg. No. GS , Alt h of The Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic from sheet moulding compound of 25% glass content with self extinguishing grade having the following properties. 5 Page 5 of The dimensions and assembly shall conform to the drawings mentioned in para All the fasteners galvanised to specification IS to service grade of TAB Tests The following tests shall be carried out on the units. 5.1 Prototype Tests (i) Visual Test and verification of dimensions. (ii) Dielectric Test (iii) Insulation Resistance Test (iv) Flammability Test of FRP SMC moulding (v) Testing of properties of FRP SMC moulding. 5.2 Acceptance test The following tests shall be conducted during acceptance test. (i) Visual Test and verification of dimensions (ii) Dielectric Test (iii) Insulation Resistance Test (iv) Flammability test of FRPSMC moulding 5.3 Routine Tests The following tests shall be conducted during routine test. (i) Visual Test and Verification of dimensions. (ii) Insulation Resistance Test (iii) Confirmation that FRPSMC moulding are procured from the approved source having passed the prototype test IV & V satisfactorily.

Page 6 of Details of Tests 6.1 Visual test and Verification of dimensions The assembly should be checked visually for good work-manship. The dimensions and clearance of various parts of the assembly as per drawings mentioned in clause 4.1 of this specification. 6.2 Dielectric Test The Dielectric test shall be conducted as per IEC for supply voltage range between 72 V and 125V with rms value of test voltage as 1000V. 6.3 Insulation Test The insulation resistance of the unit between earth and current carrying parts shorted together shall be more than 10 Meg ohm at an ambient temperature of 55 C. 6.4 Flammability Test One portion of the FRP SMC moulding shall be subjected to the luminous batswing flame, preferably supplied by Bunsen Burner. The specimen shall be hold with the flat side up at an angle of 45 to the horizontal as shown in the figure. The flame shall be of 25 mm width across the tips. The flame shall be applied to the specimen at the lower end for 30 seconds and removed for 30 seconds and then applied again to the same for the second period of 30 seconds and then removed again. This test shall be carried out with both the surfaces facing flame. Should the specimen get ignited it shall not continue to burn for more than 50 seconds after the flame has been finally removed.

Page 7 of Test for Properties of FRPSMC Moulding The test methods for checking the properties shall be confirming to specification No. IS: The tracking Index and ARC resistance shall be tested as per specification IEC 112 and ASTM D-495 respectively. 7. Sampling The sampling and rejection for conducting various tests shall be done as per IS:4905 (Latest Edition). 8. Marking The following details shall be embossed at a suitable location on the Fuse Distribution Board. (i) Type/Make (ii) Month and year of manufacture (iii) Purchase Order No. (iv) Monogram of IR.
