4 Best Practices Guide t Sell SBS Prducts This step-by-step guide is t be used as a tl fr authrized SBS dealers in assisting the custmer when selling SBS s prducts. This first page summarizes the steps t build bth a carprt and garage. It is critical t fllw this guide t ensure that the custmer is infrmed and is able t make the very best decisin when purchasing their new steel structure. If the authrized dealer fails t infrm the custmer f all f the ptins, the custmer cannt make the best buying decisin pssible. 5 Best Practices Guide t Leveling Land The lt must be level IMPORTANT: Infrm custmer that installatin site must be level 1. Why leveling site is crucial? It is crucial that the site be level fr the installatin f the custmer s building. An un-level installatin site may cause issues such as leaning f the building, entry drs nt clsing prperly, and difficulty in squaring the building. The custmer must understand fully that the site needs t be level. Otherwise: If the lcatin isn t level and the crew have t level the site, there will be a labr charge added t the installatin and that charge is at the crew s discretin If the crew cannt level the lcatin, the crew may have t return the building t SBS and there will be a charge (return trip fee) t deliver the building back t the custmer. That return trip charge is a minimum f $ and up t 5% f the current retail price f the unit. IMPROPER INSTALLATION SBS will nt install the unit in this manner. Page 5

6 Un-Level Land Flat des nt mean that the land is level: Un-level land side t side installatin frmula: We have custmers that have called in and requested carprts that have tw different side heights. This is smething that we can accmmdate but, nly a difference f 3 Ft and n mre. The way t price this is t take the tallest side height and the crew will cut the legs nsite. The maximum height we can g is 20 Ft tall. Fr example, a custmer wants a 24W x 36L Vertical carprt with a side height f 9 tall n ne side and 7 tall n the ther. Yu will d the fllwing: Charge fr the 9 side height fr a 36 lng ($315.00) Plus, a cut leg n site fee fr 36 lng ($150.00) (Labr) And yu will find this labr charge n the bttm f the price sheet The labr charge will NOT be added t the price f the carprt yu will add this t the additinal labr bx n the rder frm Page 6

Regular Style GOOD Bxed Eave Style BETTER Vertical Rf Style - BEST Using the price brchure, start with the Vertical Rf Style and explain the features and benefits f each: 1. Vertical Rf Style Best A-Frame Design Rf with the panels installed vertically. The crrugated ridges in the panel run frm the ridge cap dwn the eave side f the building. This allws dirt, trash, water, and snw t exit ff t the eave side f the building. Water and snw will tend t stay lnger n the hrizntally sheeted rf like the bxed eave and regular style until the water evaprates r the snw melts ff. Steel panels n hme and business rf-tps are always installed vertically. The rf bw/truss has a welded transitin via a steel pin n t the legs. This unit has vertical rf trim n the sides and trim n the ends fr a finished appearance as well as hat channel t supprt the vertical panels and it adds rigidity t the structure. All buildings lnger than 36 shuld be vertical since ur lngest panel is 36 and we wuld have t splice r lap hrizntally sheeted buildings. 2. Bxed Eave Style Better A-Frame Design Rf with the panels are installed hrizntally. The crrugated ridges in the panel run frm frnt t back r end t end. It is mre affrdable since it des nt have the hat channel and ridge cap that the vertical rf has t supprt the vertical panels. The rf bw/truss has a welded transitin via a steel pin nt the legs. The underneath eave sides f the rf bw r truss is cvered with bxed eave trim fr a nice finished appearance. All buildings lnger than 36 shuld be vertical since ur lngest panel is 36 and we wuld have t splice r lap hrizntally sheeted buildings. Regular Style Rf Gd Radius Bend Frame Design with the panels installed hrizntally. The crrugated ridges in the panel run frm frnt t back r end t end. The regular style is the mst ecnmical unit since it des nt have the hat channel, the ridge cap, the eave-side trim, and the welded transitin frm the rf bw/truss t the leg. All buildings lnger than 36 shuld be vertical since ur lngest panel is 36 and we wuld have t splice r lap hrizntally sheeted buildings. Page 9

10 Size f the Building Determine the Size f the Building (Nte: Always ask the custmer what they plan t place in their building) Make recmmendatins using the chart belw as a guide s that the custmer can make an infrmed decisin. Mst custmers are lking fr a functinal until that will accmmdate their vehicles r ther strage needs. If the building is nt wide enugh, they will live with that decisin fr years and if the dealer desn t make recmmendatins n the width, the custmer will likely remember that and wn t refer the dealer t friends and family. 1. Standard widths Standard widths are 12, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, = Single Car, Truck, RV 18 = 2 Cmpact Cars 20 = 2 Mid-size Cars 22 = 2 Full size Cars, Trucks, r SUV 24 = 2 Full r Oversized Cars, Truck 30 = 3 Mid-sized Cars r Trucks 2. Gauge f Frame Tubular Steel Frame 14 gauge 2 ½ x 2 ½ steel tubing 20-year limited warranty n rust thrugh f frame assuming nrmal user care/maintenance. 12 gauge 2 ¼ x 2 ¼ steel tubing Heavier and strnger than the 14 gauge 20-year limited warranty n rust thrugh f frame assuming nrmal user care/maintenance. 3. Nn-certified r Certified Structure? Nn-certified Fr use in areas where building permits are NOT required. Certified Fr use in areas where building permits are required Designed by a Prfessinal Engineer t meet specific wind and snw lads call yur area s inspectins department fr specificatins fr yur area. There is nt a guarantee nr is there a warranty n certified buildings. It simply means that the building is built t specificatins and certified by a prfessinal engineer much like a cntractr builds a huse t meet state and lcal building requirements. Engineered plans (cpy) will be supplied upn request, after rder is placed. Raised-seal plans can be purchased fr $ fr tw sets if they are required by the permitting jurisdictin. Either mbile hme anchrs fr grund installatin r wedge anchrs fr cncrete installatin are included with certified structure. If the installatin surface is cncrete, dealer shuld specify n the rder that lnger anchrs are needed if a deeper fter/mnlithic slab is used. 4. Side Height Regular, Bxed Eave, and Vertical Rf Styles all start at 6 Tall (All wide units start at 8 Tall) Recmmendatin Always recmmend a side height f 7 tall r taller fr carprts fr side clearance. If the custmer plans t enclse the carprt in the future, they shuld purchase the necessary leg height nw t accmmdate the garage dr they will need. Our custmer service department als makes this statement t the custmer when they call t schedule their building. The Side Height f the building cannt be greater than the width f the unit. Page 10

11 All units 13 and 14 tall must be at least 14 wide and 18 wide is recmmended. Custmers must prvide a telescping bm lift (illustrated belw) n units Wide On 26 Wide t 30 wide units with garage dr r frame-utside-entries, the lift wuld als be required n ft tall. 5. Extra Bracing Nn-certified Nn-Certified united 6-7 Ft side height will cme with 2 braces n each crner if the custmer is wanting braces n each leg yu will have t charge fr extra braces, Certified units 6-7 Ft will cme with 2 braces n each leg. All units 8 Ft tall & taller Nn-Certified & Certified will cme with 4 Ft braces n each leg. Page 11

12 6. Clsing the Sides Clse bth sides r clse ne side the custmer may want t clse bth r ne f the sides with panels all the way t the grund. In that case, use the clse side price n the brchure. The standard price includes clsing bth sides and the panels are installed with the crrugated ridges turned hrizntally n all units 12' wide t 30' wide. Fr buildings wider than 30', all side panels are installed vertically. Panels n the sides can be installed vertically n the bxed eave, and vertical rf (as shwn n the previus page) 12' wide t 30' wide units. Vertically riented panels cannt be installed n the sides f regular style units and they are mst frequently used n units with the vertical rf system. Clsing the Ends in a Garage: Fr Regular, Bxed eave and Vertical Rf The prices n ur brchures are fr ONE end nly and the panels are installed with the crrugated ridges turned hrizntally n all units 12' wide t 30' wide. Fr buildings wider than 30', all side panels are installed vertically. T create a fully enclsed garage, yu must charge fr tw full ends, even when putting garage drs n that end. While there is savings in panels n the ends, the amunt f framing material used is the same and smetimes mre than an enclsed end wall. There is substantial amunt f trim used arund the framed penings and labr t create the framing. That is why a full end is clsed. Sme custmers will ask, Can yu leave the panels that they cut ut f the framing because I m paying fr them anyway? In fact, the amunt f trim used and labr is greater than thse panels s the answer is n, we wuld nt leave thse panels behind. Panels n the ends can be installed vertically n the regular style, bxed eave, and vertical rf (as shwn n the previus page) 12' wide t 30' wide units. Vertically riented end panels are mst frequently used n units with the vertical rf system. Fr 12' wide t 30' wide units, a header charge f $125 per garage dr pening must be charged. Fr 32' wide t 60' wide units, a header charge f $200 per garage dr pening must be charged. This charge nly applies fr garage drs installed in the side f the building. Charge fr bth the dr and the header. The side walls n all f ur units are the lad bearing walls and the header n the sides must utilize additinal tubing t carry the rf lad. Walk-in Drs SBS ffers a 36 x 80 Walk-in Dr. They can be placed at any lcatin n the end wall and n either side f a leg/pst n the side wall. We can place the walk-in dr at a specific lcatin n the side wall but if a pst is in that lcatin, a header wuld need t made. There wuld be a $100 fr the header nly if the dr cannt be placed n either side f the pst. If a custmer needs a specific lcatin fr the walk-in dr n the side wall, we wuld need t knw the exact lcatin f the dr at the time the rder is placed. All walk-in drs pen t the utside, dr handle is n the Right and the dr pens t the Left, and they are installed n the base rail n the unit. Page 16

17 10. Optins (Cntinued) Windws SBS ffers a 30 x 30 Windw. They can be placed at any lcatin n the end wall and n either side f a leg/pst n the side wall. SBS ffers a 30 x 27 white gridded Windw. They can be placed at any lcatin n the end wall and n either side f a leg/pst n the side wall. Anchrs - One f the MOST IMPORTANT ptins! Nn-certified Units Rebar Anchrs Are used n grund installatins Extra re-bar Anchrs can be purchased fr $6.00 each (installed) Dimensins are ½ x 32 lng Cncrete Wedge Anchrs Are used when installing a carprt r garage n cncrete. Custmers can purchase additinal cncrete wedge anchrs fr $12.00 each (installed) Fr cncrete slabs that utilize a fter r mnlithic slab, specify n the rder that lnger cncrete anchrs are needed. 5 1/2 lng anchrs are used n 4 slabs with n fter. 8 lng wedge anchrs n used n slabs with a fter that is deeper than the 4 slab. Mbile Hme Anchrs Nt standard n nn-certified grund installatins but they are always recmmended We recmmend that when installing any unit n the grund, whether it be n sil, asphalt, gravel, etc., that the custmer purchase mbile hme anchrs. A minimum f ne anchr every 25 is recmmended. Mbile hme anchrs can be purchased fr $30.00 each and that includes installatin. Lag Blts Lag blts are used n nn-certified installatins with a wd installatin surface. Engineer Certified Units cannt be installed n a wd dck r deck. Certified Units Mbile Hme Anchrs These anchrs are used n all certified grund installatins. They are included in the price f the certified units. Mbile hme anchrs recmmended but custmer declined the ptin. If mbile hme anchrs are requested and the installatin site is asphalt, either mbile hme anchrs r asphalt anchrs may be used. Mbile hme anchrs are used n all certified grund r asphalt installatins Cncrete Wedge Anchrs Are used when installing a carprt r garage n cncrete. Cncrete Wedge Anchrs are always used and supplied by SBS when the units are installed n cncrete r cement. The custmer shuld nt install anchrs in the cncrete befre the unit is installed. It is difficult t drill the base rail n site and t match the exact lcatin f the anchrs. If a custmer chses t install the anchrs in the cncrete befre installatin, there is an additinal labr charge. Please call the ffice t determine what thse charges are based n the number f anchrs and the length and width f the unit being installed IMPORTANT! Fr any nn-certified unit that is installed n the grund, the custmer shuld purchase mbile hme anchrs fr that unit. Always ffer these t the custmer. If the custmer des nt purchase them, write n the rder: Fr all nn-certified units installed n the grund with just the 3 sides clsed, the custmer shuld ALWAYS purchase mbile hme anchrs. Page 17

We d nt install custmer supplied windws and drs: We frame penings fr: Windws Walk-in Drs Fr walk-in dr frame-ut n the eave side f the building, the building must be 1 taller than the height f the frame-ut. Garage Drs Fr garage dr frame-ut n the side f the building, the building must be 1 taller that the height f the frame-ut t accmmdate a header ver the dr. The charge fr a garage dr frame-uts n the end f the building (up t 12 Wide x 12 Tall) is $ fr a square $ fr a dutch pening Wide fr a square $ fr a dutch pening $ Garage dr frame-ut n the side f the building is $ r $ Wide 30 Wide Units Garage dr frame-ut in the side f the building is $ r $ Wide 40 Wide Units Frame-uts n the side wall require a single header fr 12 Wide - 24 Wide Units and a duble header fr 32 Wide -60 Wide Units. The additinal charge fr side wall frame-uts includes the cst f the header and the cst f the frame-ut. We can als d frame-uts up t 20 Ft wide n the side, yu will have t make the sides 2 Ft taller t acmadate fr the header. (12ft Wide up t 30ft Wide) is 13 ft -16 ft $ ft 20 ft $ (32x60 Wide) 13 Ft 16 Ft Charge: $ ft 20 ft $ Frame-uts are typically used when the custmer desn t want ur garage drs, walk-in drs, r windws and they want t have their wn drs installed by a third party. 19 10. Optins (Cntinued) Gable Ends If a custmer is getting a carprt nly, always ask if they want gable ends. Many custmers call back t rder the gable ends later and are nt happy because we have t charge a return trip charge as well as charge fr the gables in rder t cme back ut and install them n their unit. It is mre difficult t install a gable end after the unit has been installed. The installatin cntractrs can make the gable fit better if they can use the bw r truss as a template at the time f installatin. Encurage custmers t buy gable end when the new building is installed! Nte: Regular Style units shuld have the minimum f 6 side height and Bxed Eave/Vertical Rf units must have a minimum f 7 side height in rder fr a gable t be installed. The hrizntal tubing t supprt the panels f the gable is installed apprximately 3 dwn frm the tp f the leg. Trim is NOT included n gable ends with the standard hrizntal panels. It can be purchased at an additinal cst. Trim is included n gables the ptinal vertical panels. The pricing fr thse panels can be fund n the Optins List. The panels are 3 wide and cme in lengths f 21, 26, 31 and 36 Unlike sme f ur cmpetitrs, we will install a split panel n each side. Sme custmers will nly want t cme dwn 12 t 18 n each side. Fr thse applicatins, we will split a panel lengthwise. There is a labr charge fr the cut/split. Please see the Optins, Accessries, and Extras List fr the split panel charges and the cut panel fees. Features and Benefits fr Panels n the Sides: Prvides better prtectin frm the sun, wind, and rain Prvides additinal strength frm back t frnt 90% f the time, any custmer purchasing a unit fr an RV will buy the additinal panels when infrmed f that ptin. All RV carprts 10 and taller shuld have at least ne panel n each side f the carprt.. 1 Extra Panel n Each Side Regular Style 1 Extra Panel n Each Side Bxed Eave Style ½ Panel (Split) n Each Side Regular Style ½ Panel (Split n Each Side Bxed Eave Style Split Panels SBS s panels are 3 Wide and we can split the panels in half lengthwise, resulting in an 18 wide panel. There is a labr charge t split the panels and thse can be fund in the ptins sectin n the price sheet.
