1 DATASHEET MODULAR COMPOSITE ISO SHELTER OVERVIEW ELESIA s FCIS (Full Composite ISO Shelter) is a lightweight, robust, shielded, ISO-20 container, made up of composite materials. The FCIS has been designed and developed as lightweight, low-maintenance alternative to standard military shelters, enabling easy multimodal transportability at low cost. Manufactured by lightweight ELESIA multi-layer panels, bonded with pultruded fiberglass beams frame, the FCIS provides superior corrosion and rust resistance and durability. FCIS is true innovation in a tired genre, its full composite design allows to withstand a variety of environmental conditions while providing all the transportation advantages of the standard ISO configuration. The ISO standard dimensions allow it to be transported by military truck, helicopter, aircraft, as well as by train and ship. FCIS is certified for multimodal transport. 2 FCIS shelter satisfies general purpose applications as well as housing electronic equipment, it is suitable for C4I, data center and telecommunication systems. FCIS guarantees a high level of RFI shielding by means of specific layer of metal coating made by a thermal spray process. Such a layer is part of the ELESIA multi-layer panels. Thermal spray is a process that utilize a heat source to melt material in wire. The semi-molten material is projected toward the surface by expanding process gases. The particles quench rapidly, upon impact with the surface, and bond with the part. Following impacting particles create a coating buildup. FCIS design is simple and versatile, it can support multiple configurations in terms of doors, windows, inner partition walls, Z-panels, etc.. ELESIA manufacture FCIS compliant to any of the ISO-xx standard models or customize it on request. Moreover, FCIS has several basic accessories like: HVAC systems and chillers, leveling jacks, aircraft loading system, power and data distribution cabling wiring, EMI filtering, day and night lighting, c-rails for equipment rack, NBC filtering, etc.. 4 The container is designed in form of an exoskeleton, actually it is a box (or shell) in which the skin, made of ELESIA multi-layer panels, provides the main structural support. The shell is bound to the frame, the bond between the frame and the body is made by elastic joints made in fiber carbon. This approach allows the frame to flex and adapt to the stresses to which it is subjected during the operational use. The kinetic energy relative to the mechanical stress is dissipated in the panels (skin) that form the box. An ELESIA multilayer panel is a sandwich structure that employ foam between thin skins of composite materials (mainly fiberglass and fiber carbon). Because of the requirements of high strength-to-weight ratios requested by the design, this kind of sandwich is the best solution for the panels of which the shelter is made of.
