We use proven component systems to minimize maintenance and maximize uptime. We offer systems with fiberopticsensing units and userfriendly Programmable Logic Controls (PLC). Our systems are designed to pay for themselves quickly, with low initial costs, the lowest operating costs, and the highest quality and reliability in the industry. 4

SURFACE FINISHING: ELECTROCOATING Did you know that George Koch Sons designed and installed the 1st industrial e-coat system in North America??? For more than 40 years, we ve worked with customers around the world to design, upgrade, or replace their e-coat systems. We are experts in the technologies involved: pretreatment, application, curing, wastewater treatment, chemical recovery, and control. We are also experts in bringing them together to meet your needs. We are founding members of The Electrocoat Association and proud of our three recipients of the prestigious Brewer Award for excellence and innovation in electrocoating technology. Our single- and dual-tunnel FRP and metal pretreatment systems provide spray and immersion degreasing and metal conditioning. They can be designed to accommodate oversized parts, fit into limited floor space, and be operated in-line or manually. Our FRP systems are highly resistant to chemical and mechanical damage, compatible with all solutions used for metal treatment, and easy to install and maintain. Founder & Member of the We design ovens to preheat, cure, and dry to exact material, production, and quality requirements. Our ovens include high-velocity convection, IR, high-velocity/ir, and black wall radiant systems. This includes overhead, side, or floor-mounted ductwork, along with air filtration, heat recovery and exchange, and control systems. All are designed to provide uniform part temperatures and consistent temperature curves. Our material handling systems are designed by a dedicated engineering group and include monorail, power and free, programmable hoist, DeBurgh, Pacer, chain-on-edge, flatline, and other conventional conveyor systems. 5

SURFACE FINISHING: POWDER COATING Since its introduction in North America in the 1960's, powder has continued to be the fastest growing segment of the coatings industry. With our customers, we have made significant contributions to that growth from the beginning. As in e-coating, we specialize in turnkey powder systems, including surface preparation, application, curing, material handling, wastewater treatment, chemical recovery, controls, and auxiliary systems. This system features our technologically advanced FRP washer and a clean room for powder booths. Our dry-off/cooldown oven features our exclusive, ceilingmounted Propeller Fan Oven (PFO), along with a sanitary conveyor guard to reduce the risk of contaminants being deposited onto parts. Ceiling-mounted PFO s accelerate drying or curing. They create very high air turnover rates and ensure uniform part temperatures at low cost. Our bottom entry/exit curing ovens create their own, natural heat seal, which reduces operating costs and eliminates the need for an air seal that can be difficult to control. Air seals also create air movement over uncured parts, which is highly inefficient in powder coating. 6

SURFACE FINISHING: POWDER COATING We ve worked with customers around the world on powder coating systems for nearly as long as our e-coat systems. We are a member of the Powder Coating Institute, and we have long served as world leaders in the advancement of powder coating technologies and the expansion of their use. We can help you get the best powder system for your money. In the process, we can help you fully integrate your finishing system with the rest of your operations to reduce your operating costs and improve the quality of your products. Koch gas and electric IR ovens are designed for rapid, uniform curing, and they are often used in systems handling multiple colors that can cross-contaminate. They feature instant on/off to conserve energy, promote clean operation, are small in size, and have a very fast temperature ramp up. Fast ramp up raises the surface temperature of parts being cured to polymerize, or gel, the coating quickly. Powder coating finishes are durable and longlasting, resist chipping and scratching, and can be used to produce a wide range of surfaces, from smooth to wrinkled to textured. Overspray can be retrieved, eliminating waste. Because far fewer VOC s are released, pollution control equipment can be eliminated in many instances. Member of the Our KochSmart Control Systems provide precise control of e-coat, liquid, powder, and flatline finishing systems. They feature userfriendly, color touch-screen terminals with PLC s to automate, monitor, and control finishing and auxiliary processes. They can handle everything from simple systems to the most sophisticated, and they can dramatically improve process control, system reliability and functionality, and safety. 7

SURFACE FINISHING: LIQUID Liquid spray coatings are the oldest and most commonly used technologies in the finishing industry today. Low solids and high solids, solvent-based coatings are widely used for finishing products made from metal, plastics and wood. Environmentally friendly, waterborne coatings have rapidly gained acceptance in the finishing industry, as well as UV curable coatings in niche industries. High performance pigmented and clear liquid coatings are extensively used on metal and plastic components in the automotive and motorcycle industries, which require smooth, mirror-like finishes. Koch specializes in turnkey liquid finishing systems that include surface preparation, high-efficiency down-draft water wash and side/ down draft paint spray booths, patented recirculating air makeup and abatement systems, spray booth retention pits, and drying and curing ovens. Our high-efficiency down draft water wash and side/down draft paint spray booths provide clean, quiet working environments. Koch s automotive-approved booths capture 99.9% of all particulates, and can be installed at floor level. Side draft paint spray booths can be totally enclosed with the addition of a supply plenum. We have continuously advanced and refined liquid coating technology to enhance finish performance, address environmental issues, and meet the needs of our customers for greatest uptime performance and low life-cycle costs. Our patented recirculating air systems minimize exhaust air volume and monitor the air stream to ensure safe operating conditions. Our systems are used as stand alone components or in combination with e-coat to meet stringent quality, cost, operating and emission requirements. 8

FLATLINE FINISHING: COATING SYSTEMS We provide standard and customized flatline finishing systems for drying, application of paints, stains, sealers, topcoats, adhesives, and UV-curable coatings, along with material handling systems. We work with customers to design coating systems, which are ideal for application of solvent or waterborne coatings, adhesives, and UV curable coatings onto flat or nearly flat substrates. Koch pressure head curtain coating systems are available in coating widths ranging from Once coating thickness is determined, operation is virtually automatic. Material transfer is effectively 100%. Our curtain coating systems are compatible with most liquid coatings, including hot-melt adhesives and waxes. They are used in virtually every major industry, from wood-related industries to corrugated, automotive, glass and electronics. They provide high film uniformity, and they eliminate washboarding and memory effects that can occur with contact-type coaters. Only the liquid coating contacts the surface of the substrate. Our hot wax curtain coating is used in the corrugated industry to deliver dependable, highspeed performance while maintaining a controlled film deposit on processing sheets. Our single and multi-zone high velocity convection dryers are used in many industries. They are well suited for drying solvents and waterborne coatings on wood, glass, plastic, metal and other substrates. Multizone dryers are available with infrared heat to increase drying versatility, and are available for all fuel sources, including natural gas, propane, fuel oil, high and low pressure steam and electricity. Multi-zone dryers use progressively higher temperatures and impingement velocities in each zone, to pace the drying action and ensure total solvent or water removal before the coating cures. 9

SPECIALTY PRODUCTS: HEAT PROCESSING Koch ovens are built for years of reliable performance. They feature 18-gauge, aluminized steel walls with at least 4 of insulation.
