Special Considerations DuPont Tyvek StuccoWrap & DuPont Tyvek DrainWrap must be installed with drainage grooves vertical. DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap, DuPont Tyvek StuccoWrap and DuPont Tyvek DrainWrap must be covered within 120 days of installation. DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap, must be covered within 9 months of installation. Consider DuPont Tyvek UV Façade for open vented cladding with up to 3cm joints. DuPont Tyvek UV Façade is resistant to UV for up to 4 months prior to open jointed cladding installation. Once the open jointed cladding is installed DuPont Tyvek UV Façade can be resistant to UV for 10 to 50 years depending on the cladding joint gap. Facade Considerations Wall Wrap Weather Barrier Resistance is dependent upon the ability of the façade to drain. The following must be considered for specific facades Stucco Plaster - DuPont Tyvek Wraps may be used as a non-rigid backing material or a slip layer over rigid backing. Limit cavity deflection to a maximum of 5mm with the use of support. For example, 75mm galvanised mesh, plastic tape or wires at 150mm centres. Cavity Installations - Where cavity battens are to be installed at greater than 450mm centres, use DuPont Tyvek Contractor Tape at 300mm centres horizontally over framing, before installing the cavity. Brick - When integrating through wall flashing with the DuPont Tyvek Wrap ensure proper shingling. Wood Siding As recommended by the Western Red Cedar Association & US Forest Product Laboratory, wood siding should be primed on all six sides before installation. 3

DuPont Tyvek Wall Underlay Installation Guide Start at the bottom of the structure to ensure proper shingling occurs throughout the installation. Proper shingling is required to provide for water shedding and to prevent water from entering the wall system. Step 1 UNWRAP roll at corner, leaving 150mm vertical overlap. Printed stud markings are available on some DuPont Tyvek Wraps to aid in aligning with studs (studmarks are printed 200mm apart on DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap ). Step 4 Unroll directly over windows & doors. Upper layer of DuPont Tyvek Wrap should overlap bottom layer of DuPont Tyvek Wrap by a minimum of 150mm Step 5 All vertical seams shall be overlapped 150mm and taped with DuPont Tyvek Contractor Tape. When installing as an air barrier, also tape all horizontal seams. Use Tyvek UV Façade Tape when taping Tyvek UV Façade overlaps. Step 2 Roll should be plumb. Bottom roll edge should extend below bottom plate by at least 35mm (see diagram to right). For maximum air leakage reduction, seal wrap at the bottom of the wall with DuPont Flashing Tape. Extend to bottom of sill plate for concrete slab on grade foundations. For stucco exteriors, integrate with weep screed. Step 3 Secure DuPont Tyvek Wrap to the stud. Fasteners should be spaced no closer than 150mm and no farther than 450mm on vertical stud lines. Use one or more of the recommended fasteners below: -Cap Nails/Clouts with 20mm or greater caps -DuPont Tyvek Wrap Cap Staples (Best Practice) -6-8mm non corrosive staples* Please see Use of Temporary Fastening Methods later in this guide for more information on alternative fastening schedules and requirements. Extend DuPont Tyvek Wrap below bottom plate at least 35mm 4

Step 6 At Window/Door opening, from corner to corner, cut an X in the Wrap. Fold wrap inwards and secure to the interior face of the faming stud with staples or DuPont Tyvek Contractor Tape. 5

Continuity It is important to maintain continuity of the DuPont Tyvek Wrap from top to bottom with proper shingling. Continue wrapping all the way up the structure, overlapping the previous layer of DuPont Tyvek Wrap by a minimum of 150mm. Wrap the entire wall surface including unconditioned spaces. Gable Ends Completely cover the Gable End with the DuPont Tyvek Wrap including a mm overlap at each corner. Cut away the excess Wall Wrap and tape all seams. Terminations Lap DuPont Tyvek Wrap over all flashing including step flashing, wall to roof intersections and thru-wall flashings. Cantilever Floors Wrap the DuPont Tyvek Wrap under and up the Cantilever floor and fold the DuPont Tyvek Wrap up the sides of the Cantilever wall a minimum of 150mm. Tape all corners. The top layer of DuPont Tyvek Wrap should go over the bottom layer a minimum of 150mm. NOTE: Make the inside corner as tight as possible by using a 100x50 off-cut placed into the corner. 6

Handling Tears and Holes During the course of installing the DuPont Tyvek Wrap, minor tears may occur. Be sure to tape all tears. Tears can be easily covered with DuPont Contractor Tape or DuPont Flashing products. Larger holes, greater than 50mm, may require cutting a piece of DuPont Tyvek Wrap to cover the hole, maintain proper shingling. Cut a slit 50mm above the hole and extending a minimum of 50mm on each side of the hole. Measure and cut a piece of DuPont Tyvek Wrap to fit into the slit and cover the hole. Tuck the cut piece of DuPont Tyvek Wrap into the slit. Tape along the perimeter by starting at the bottom of the patch, shingling upper tape over the bottom tape. 50mm 7

Wall Penetrations Seal the DuPont Tyvek Wrap around electrical, ductwork and plumbing penetrations with DuPont Contractor Tape, DuPont Flashing Tape or DuPont FlexWrap NF. Note: Due to its superior flexibility, DuPont FlexWrap NF, is recommended as a best practice for sealing circular penetrations. DuPont Contractor Tape or DuPont Flashing Tape, being less flexible, are best suited for straight edge penetrations. Products that have flanges should be integrated into the air and water barrier (Wall Wrap) using DuPont Contractor Tape or DuPont Flashing Tape or DuPont FlexWrap NF. 8

Use of Temporary Fastening Methods Fastener selection and fastening schedule is a function of holding power during exposure and durability while in service. We recommend the use of cap fasteners (nail, staple or screw) or 1 (25mm) crown staples as the means for permanently attaching DuPont Tyvek Wraps. In addition to fastener selection, a permanent fastener schedule between 150 to 450mm, anchored to studs is recommended. These fasteners and schedule are considered a permanent means of attachment and provide substantial holding power during exposure. Cap fasteners provide additional protection against moisture and air infiltration at the fastener location, especially when the cladding is in contact with the wall wrap and there is minimal drainage,. These fastening guidelines minimize the number of penetrations while maintaining product durability during exposure. Sheathing other than structural OSB and plywood should not be relied on as the fastening base. Use of recommended fasteners at reduced schedules, other mechanical fasteners such as smaller staples (slap staples) and adhesives are considered temporary fastening methods. This is because they do not have substantial holding power and may not provide adequate durability while in service. Temporary fasteners should not be relied upon to permanently attach DuPont Tyvek Wraps. Temporary fastening methods can be used if the following guidelines are followed: Temporary fastening methods shall only be used to tack the DuPont Tyvek Wrap in place when a permanent fastener is installed immediately after the temporary fasteners are installed. In this case, permanent fasteners include cladding fasteners such as brick ties, lath fasteners for traditional stucco plaster, external foam board fasteners, or siding installed with nails. Cladding shall be installed according to applicable building codes and industry standards. When using adhesives, vertical strips spaced approximately mm or along every other stud line are acceptable. Vertical strips may be applied directly to the studs. Adhesives should be evaluated for compatibility with DuPont Tyvek Wraps. When using temporary mechanical fasteners, they should be used minimally to tack the Wall Wrap in place. Small staple fasteners are acceptable with wood studs & sheathing. Temporary fastening schedule should not exceed four fasteners per square meter. Tape all tears in localized damage. For larger holes, greater than 25mm follow instructions on page 7. 9
