1 The Board of Directors of the Central Springs Community School District approved proceeding to construct an auditorium at the high school site at their regular June, 2018 meeting. Over the past few years the school was experiencing increasing difficulties with the current spectator gym being used as an auditorium/performing arts center. The sound system, lights, rest rooms and heating systems were problematic every time the building was being used for a school activity. Because of this the Board authorized a feasibility study by a architect firm to determine the best course of action to take to meet the needs of our student programs. The WWA architectural firm, assisted by structural engineers, conducted a review of the facility last winter. The report was presented to the Board at its April, 2018 meeting. Multiple options were presented. The first option was to bring the Spectator gym to Code and upgrade the lighting, sound, heating and restroom facilities. Option two was to demolish the north/east end of the main high school gym and rebuild with a stage and the necessary attached rooms adjacent to the stage area. The third option had two variations. Both were to build a performing arts structure attached to the high school adjacent to the main gym. One variation had theater seating with a raise floor and permanent seating. The second variation had a level floor with movable seating, allowing the area to also be used as a multi-purpose room. Over the succeeding meetings there was discussion concerning the performing arts center options presented in the report. At their regular June meeting the Board held discussion including the feasibility of and future plans for the Spectator Gym, area architect firms, and which option would work best for our district. The Board unanimously voted to approve moving ahead on the option- Multipurpose Auditorium without fixed seating, and to continue with the WWA (Atura) Architect Firm. Financing for the proposed facility will be paid from Capital Project (SAVE) funds already in the bank, a major contribution from the WCDA, and possible revenue bonds based upon sales tax revenues (SAVE). There will be no bond referendum or property tax increase for the Central Springs district for this construction project. Located on this site is the proposed time line for the project. Also included are proposed drawings of the lay out and outside views.
