2 THE STRONGER FLAT DRYWALL STUD Finally, a stronger steel drywall framing stud and track, without all the speed bumps. It s unique ability to outperform typical conventional and dimpled studs makes ViperStud TM the next generation in flat steel drywall framing products. PATENT PENDING DRYWALL SYSTEM We ve put forth a tremendous effort to develop a product that requires NO learning curve. After 18 months of extensive lab testing, field-testing, and design changes the revolutionary new ViperStud TM and ViperTrack TM was created. The patent pending ViperStud System is one of the most rigorously tested products the drywall framing market has ever seen. Thousands of hours were spent modeling and testing prototypes to make a drywall stud system that can live up to the demands of contractors and builders in the field. ViperStud TM is the result of a forming process developed to strengthen the flat stud design, without the hassles that come with the alternative. Its ribbed flange and web, called ViperRib, makes Viper the toughest performing drywall stud available; increasing its rigidity and strength, and helps to prevent "high shoulders" when finishing gypsum board. Even more exceptional is the high strength ViperTrack TM system. The single thickness ViperTrack TM system works with both Viper20 TM and Viper25 TM studs and is 100% hemmed, reducing the risk of injury from sharp edges. With greater limiting heights, better screw retention, and easier and safer installation, the ViperStud System TM is sure to become the preferred framing product for drywall contractors. FULLY TESTED PRODUCT ViperStud TM has been tested extensively with Intertek Testing Labs; recognized worldwide as one of the premier testing labs under OSHA s Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) Program. All fire testing is listed with the Warnock-Hersey mark. Our products are independently tested and meet minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards. This mark is used and accepted by manufacturers, retailers, distributors and authorities having jurisdiction around the world. In addition, ViperStud TM is listed with the NYC Department of Buildings, MEA# M. FLAT WEB! 4 A BETTER PERFORMING DRYWALL STUD AND TRACK ViperStud TM is an improved steel drywall framing stud and track system. Formed for extra strength and better screw retention, ViperStud TM is proven through laboratory testing to be the better performing drywall stud and track over traditional or the dimpled alternative. Q: ASTM C SPECIFIES A DESIGN THICKNESS FOR 25 GAUGE DRYWALL STUDS AS.0188, YET VIPERSTUD TM IS.0155 DESIGN THICKNESS, HOW DOES THIS MEET THE STANDARD? A: ASTM C Section 9.2 says members that can show independently verified test performance that meets the limiting heights values listed in ASTM C-754 need not meet the minimum thickness limitation set forth in section 4.3 or the section properties in section 8.1. ViperStud TM has proven this in testing. 2. Q: CAN VIPERSTUD TM BE USED WITH CONVENTIONAL TRACK AND STUD? A: ViperStud TM is 100% FLAT steel and can be mixed with conventional inventory. 3. Q: VIPERTRACK TM CAN BE USED ON BOTH VIPER25 TM & VIPER20 TM STUDS, WHAT THICKNESS IS IT? A: All of our testing was conducted with design thickness track so one track can be used for both studs. This system testing meets the ASTM C-645 requirement in FAQ #1 for a verified test performance. 4. Q: VIPERTRACK IS HEMMED BUT MY MARKET USES UN-HEMMED TRACK, CAN I USE THAT WITH VIPER? A: Conventional un-hemmed track works with ViperStud TM. 5. Q: WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO BUY CONVENTIONAL DRYWALL FRAMING FROM MY MARINO\WARE PLANT? A: We will eventually convert all lines to ViperStud TM, but this will take time to complete. We will make conventional framing available for jobs that started with conventional and want to finish with it. 6. Q: I HAVE A JOB THAT IS SPECIFIED MINIMUM.0179 AND IT CAN T BE CHANGED, CAN I GET VIPERSTUD IN A.0179 THICKNESS? A: ViperStud TM can be made to order in a thickness, but there will be an up charge over the typical pricing. 7. Q: IS AN INTERTEK LISTING THE SAME AS A UL LISTING? A: ViperStud TM was tested with Intertek Testing Labs, the Intertek listing meets the same standards of a UL listing This technical information reflects the most current information available and supersedes any and all previous publications effective March 1, 2008 #MW-VS-03/2008

5 1. ONE TRACK SYSTEM ViperTrack TM is a high strength one track system, and works with both Viper20 TM and Viper25 TM studs. This eliminates SKU's from your inventory. ViperTrack TM is 100% HEMMED, making it safer than any other product offered. 2. BETTER SCREW RETENTION Independent laboratory testing proves ViperStud TM has a 20% greater screw retention than the dimpled alternative products. Our tests show 139 lbs of pullout force required versus only 116 lbs on the competitor s product. No more screw spin outs to slow down your job or call backs on completed projects. SCREW RETENTION FOR 3 5/8 STUD (25 ga. equivalent) ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE % FLAT STEEL The flat steel requires no extra training or special fasteners for installation. ViperStud TM is interchangeable with conventional framing components, and is easy to plumb, laser level and mark. There s no learning curve for trades and inspectors because ViperStud TM installs exactly the same as conventional studs. 4. THE STRONGEST DRYWALL STUD The ViperRib TM technology helps to prevent "high shoulders" when finishing gypsum board and makes ViperStud TM much stronger, stiffer, and less prone to twist than the dimpled alternative product. 5. FULLY TESTED, ASTM COMPLIANT ViperStud TM conforms to the following ASTM standards: ASTM C-645 Standard Specification for Nonstructural Steel Framing Members ASTM C-754 Standard Specification for Installation of Steel Framing Members to Receive Screw-Attached Gypsum Panel Products ASTM E-72 Standard Test Methods of Conducting Strength Tests of Panels for Building Construction ASTM E-119 Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials Fire Tested for 1 and 2 hour rated walls, with 5/8 Type X Gypsum Board. - Warnock-Hersey Design No. MW/WA Assembly Rating: 1 hour wall assembly non-load bearing - Warnock-Hersey Design No. MW/WA Assembly Rating: 2 hour wall assembly non-load bearing The following gypsum board manufacturers are listed as suitable with the ViperStud System in our Warnock-Hersey 1hr & 2hr Design Assemblies: American Gypsum Lafarge North America CertainTeed Gypsum National Gypsum Co.
