1 TESTED - CERTIIED windows & dos BSHIRE RATED SYSTEMS OR BAL-40 ZONES In response to devastating bushfires, Australian Bushfire attack levels (BALS) Standard AS3959 has been updated and republished. AS is primarily concerned with improving the ability of buildings in designated bushfire-prone areas to better withstand attack from bushfire thus giving a measure of protection to the building occupants (until the fire front passes) as well as to the building itself. AWS has developed and tested an extensive range of Vantage, Elevate and ThermalHEART aluminium windows and dos to meet and exceed BCA requirements f compliance under Australian Standard AS f windows and dos in a BAL-40 bushfire zone. These products are engineered, tested and certified to withstand the conditions likely to occur in a BAL-40 zone and are designed to help you protect your home whilst still delivering unprecedented style, efficiency and functionality f your lifestyle. SCREENS AWS BAL-40 rated systems have been successfully tested to comply with relevant Australian Standards without the use of screens. Any accredited BAL-40 rated screen can be fitted to AWS window systems in accdance with Australian Standard. Approved fire rated screens in accdance with Australian Standard are required on all opening ptions of windows.

3 TESTED - CERTIIED windows & dos BSHIRE RATED SYSTEMS OR BAL-40 ZONES Distance from Vegetation BSHIRE ATTACK LEVELS In the Australian Standard AS3959, they have classified different bushfire intensity levels that a home may experience during a bushfire. These are referred to as Bushfire Attack Levels, BALs f sht. There are six bushfire attack levels in total: BAL-Z lame Zone BAL-40 BAL-29 BAL-19 BAL-12.5 BAL-Low These individual levels are based on: 1. The region where you live. 2 The vegetation type around your property. 3. The distance from your home to individual vegetation types. 4. Slope on the property. B A Effective Slope BAL-40 is currently the highest bushfire attack level where AWS window and do systems can be used. Where glazing is less than 400mm from the ground other structures (decks etc) and less than 18 degrees to the hizontal, Grade A safety glass minimum 4mm must be used. If windows incpate glazing within 400mm to the ground, they must be manufactured from: a. Bushfire resistant timber (Appendix ). b. Timber species as listed in Appendix E. c. Metal / Aluminium. d. upvc with reinfced crosion resistant steel. Both the operable and fixed ptions must be screened with a mesh with a maximum aperture of 2mm, made from a crosion resistant steel bronze. Seals to stiles, head and sills shall be manufactured from materials with a flammability index no greater than 5 made from silicone.
