20 Selection Guide Finishing Touches MORTAR JOINTS RECESSED WEATHERSTRUCK A unique brick shape or coloured mortar creates distinctive architectural features and visual interest for your project, adding a real sense of individuality. STRUCK ROLLED FLUSH MORTAR JOINTS AND COLOURS Different combinations of sand and cement can have a significant impact on mortar colour, and contribute to the overall look of the final brickwork. Changing the mortar colour from white, or natural to black can have a dramatic effect. Selkirk recommends Rolled or Flush Mortar joints when using our products. NATURAL VARIATIONS IN CLAY When considering your design please remember that clay bricks and pavers are manufactured using natural clays and minerals, and therefore colour variation between manufacturing runs is possible. 23 Preparing for delivery The final step in ensuring that Selkirk provides you with an outstanding product and quality service is to ensure that your product makes it to site in a timely, safe and responsible manner. Answering these simple questions can ensure delivery is a smooth process. Afterall, the sooner the products arrive, the sooner your project can commence! WHEN SHOULD I ORGANISE THE DELIVERY OF MY PRODUCT? Selkirk recommends that you arrange your delivery to arrive at least 48 hours prior to the commencement of work. Delivering your product the same day as work starts will result in loss of time. Selkirk advise that, where possible, you take your entire order in a single delivery. IS MY SITE ACCESSIBLE BY SELKIRK DELIVERY VEHICLES? Selkirk delivery trucks are large 15 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 4 metres high and require appropriate safe parking in close proximity to your site. Selkirk all terrain forklifts, used to place building products on site, require at least 2.5 metres clear width and 3.0 metres clearance height. Therefore, Selkirk Customer Service needs to know if there are any obstacles or restrictions that may cause difficulties in accessing your site. If Selkirk drivers are to operate equipment on busy roadways, clear ways, in close proximity to schools/crossings, double lined roadways etc, it is your responsibility to provide traffic control in order to maintain a safe working environment. (Please note: traffic control persons must be trained and hold a current certificate of competency). IS MY SITE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED? If your site is not clearly identified, you can obtain a Selkirk site sign from your nearest Selkirk office. Please mark the site clearly with the street and lot number. CAN MY SITE SUSTAIN THE WEIGHT OF PRODUCT AND MACHINERY DURING DELIVERY? A forklift carrying bricks or pavers can weigh around 7 tonne. It is your responsibility to ensure that any surface the forklift traverses over is capable of sustaining this weight. Selkirk will not be liable for any damage caused to underground services. IS MY SITE SAFE ENOUGH? Please ensure that children are well out of the way and pets are restrained. Selkirk drivers are well trained and will do their best to place your product where required, but the driver has the final say when it comes to personal risk or possible site damage. IS THERE AN EASIER WAY TO GO ABOUT THINGS? If you are building a large house that takes up most of the block, you may consider taking delivery of the bricks for the rear of the house prior to the excavation of the site and the pouring of the slab. This will help your bricklayer avoid damage to the slab or the possibility of Selkirk being unable to place your product where you require it Build with Selkirk
