3 STERACRYL MOULD INHIBITING COATINGS WHAT IS MOULD? Mould and fungi are everywhere inside and outside. They can grow almost anywhere when moisture is present, such as empty premises and voids, where condensation is prevalent. Mould makes spores, carried by air currents these land on moist surfaces, and, if suitable for life, begin to grow. Most of us are familiar with the damage and unsightly stains caused by condensation and mould that can occur in void spaces, bathrooms and kitchens. Condensation can be a problem in newbuild and renovations where properties are uninhabited for any length of time; and in inhabited properties where temperature differentials between rooms, poor ventilation and damp outdoor conditions can lead to mould forming on walls and ceilings and around windows and doors. Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Paints are available in Matt and durable Acrylic Eggshell in a wide range of colours. The range is flexible with 5L and 2.5L can sizes to offer increased efficiency and reduced wastage on smaller projects. Spores need 3 things to grow into mould: Mature mycelium Spore release Fruiting body Spore Germination Hypha Development of mycelium Nutrients: Such as cellulose which can be found in most papers and paints. Moisture: As found in areas of high condensation, e.g void properties, kitchens and bathrooms. Time: Mould growth begins between 24 hours and 10 days from the provision of the growing conditions. Steracryl, tested to BS3900: G6 Fungal testing was carried out according to the British Standard test procedure BS3900: G6, in which the test paint films were inoculated with a spore suspension containing the following mixture of mould and yeast fungi. After 7 days the panels were re-inoculated with the spore suspension and incubation was continued. Mould can grow at temperatures as low as 2 C and, if conditions are not suitable for growth, they can remain alive in a dormant state. This explains how moulds survive in refrigerators or inside building structure cavities. Testing for mould inhibition: Crown Trade Steracryl is proven in the prevention of mould growth. Stringent testing by the PRA (The Paint Research Association) has found it to be an effective mould inhibitor over long periods of time. 4 CASE STUDIES CASE STUDIES We ve been helping some of the largest housing associations in the North West when they have redecorated hundreds of bathrooms and kitchens in all sorts of tenanted properties with Crown Trade Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Matt. 6 STERACRYL ANTI BACTERIAL COATINGS STERACRYL ANTI BACTERIAL PAINT WITH STERITOUCH Fighting the spread of infection The best weapon against the spread of infection is to ensure patients are cared for in a clean environment and NHS employees work very hard to ensure the wards and ward equipment are kept hygienically clean. All NHS hospitals and surgeries must adhere to a strict cleaning routine in accordance with NHS National Standards of Cleanliness. Steracryl Anti Bacterial paints have been developed in partnership with SteriTouch. Steritouch is a range of antimicrobial additives designed to reduce the growth of harmful organisms such as bacteria, mould and fungi, while remaining entirely safe for even the most sensitive applications. A predetermined wet film thickness of the paint is applied to the test substrate and allowed to dry for 28 days. The test panels are placed on the scrub testing machine and subjected to 200 / 40 scrub cycles (depending on paint type). After testing, the amount of paint which has been lost from the surface is calculated and expressed as a film thickness loss in micrometers. A Class 1 scrub rating indicates a loss of paint film of less than 5 microns after 200 scrubs. Coli. The use of anti bacterial decorative coatings is an important weapon in our armoury and rapidly becoming standard practice in our medical wards.
