Extruded polystyrene can be attached over the air barrier by a temporary spray adhesive or permanent mechanical fastener. On brick veneer, Heckmann Posi-Ties will become the permanent fastener for the insulation and brick. However, temporary attachment of the insulation until that time is a good idea. 4 Locating Steel Studs Behind Air Barrier Systems Contractor Responsible Typically there is more then one contractor constructing the entire wall assembly. The contractor that is installing the air barrier should mark the air barrier as it is installed indicating where the studs are. The contractor installing the Styrofoam should transfer the marks onto the insulation. Insulation can be temporarily adhered with CCW Cav-Grip spray adhesive. All joints of the insulation must be tight and boards must be in contact with the substrate. Open joints and loose insulation can cause cold spots in the wall, which can lead to condensation inside the wall. Also it is important to have single responsibility of the entire system.
