Reduce the inshore 30 to 4 wide. Permanently remove one mooring pile. Permanently remove the solid moorage cover. Repair one pile with the pile stub method. Install one boatlift with translucent canopy, one jet ski lift, and one platform lift. Install two mooring piles. Job specific comments Purpose and Need The proposed dock has deteriorated and is approaching the end of its useful life. Replacing the pile caps, stringers and deck will to provide safe access for recreational water related activities for a single-family waterfront residence. Habitat Enhancement The proposed rebuilt pier provides for an enhanced location for the species in the lake. These enhancements are: 1. Remove a solid surface decking and replace with a fully grated deck. 2. Installation of a proposed shoreline planting plan to provide shade and nutrients along the inshore area of the site. 3. Permanent removal of a 45 long by 4 wide railway previously used to launch and retrieve a boat. Water Quality 1

2 In order to prevent debris from entering the lake during the demolition stage of the project, a containment boom will surround the crane barge and work area. Mitigation Shoreline Plantings: The shoreline plantings have been designed to provide the spread of tree and shrub nutrients into the adjacent waters of Lake Washington resulting in an improvement from the existing baseline habitat conditions at the project site. Fully grated deck: The proposed dock will have a fully grated deck to provide light penetration below the dock where there is no light penetration with the existing structure. Pile Stubs The replacement pile stubs will be treated with ACZA per Best Management Practices and as recommended as part of the RGP-3 guidelines. This includes treating the pile stubs off-site at a professional treatment plant where they will be dried and cured prior to shipment to our yard and mobilizing to the job site. These pile stubs will not leach or cause any treatment to enter the lake when they are installed or at any time in the future. Mobilize crew, crane barge, supply and debris barges, and materials on site. 2. Remove the dock framing and deck and place on the debris barge. 3. Remove the rotten mooring pile and place on the debris barge. 4. Remove the skirting surrounding the moorage area. 5. Remove and dispose of the old winches in the moorage area. 6. Tow the debris barge to the yard in Seattle and dispose in an approved upland waste location. 2

3 Pile Repair 1. Inspect the exposed pilings and confirm which may require repair. 2. Repair all rotten wood piles by cutting the pile below the waterline and using a treated wood pile attach to the exiting stub with a 3/8 epoxy coated steel collar and galvanized steel bolts and nuts. 3. Confirm the pilings are straight and solid. 4. Cut the pilings to elevation using a laser for confirmation. 5. Attach preservative over the top of all piles for protection. 6. Attach the new pile stub to the existing pile cap. Dock construction 1. Install new 6 X 8 treated Doug-Fir pile caps to the piles with a ¾ galv steel drift pin. 2. Install new 4 X 8 treated Doug-Fir stringers to the pile caps to support the ThruFlow grating. 3. Install electrical conduit and water lines under the deck along the dock. Wiring and reconnection to be completed by others. 4. Install the ThruFlow grating with stainless steel button head screws making sure the screws are aligned and flush with the surface. 5. Clean the work area. Structural Notes General All materials, workmanship, design and construction shall conform to the submitted drawings and the International Building Code. The contractor will be responsible for all safety precautions and methods and processes to perform the designated work. Design Criteria The existing and repaired design and construction meets the live load specification of a minimum of 40 PSF. Materials Steel pilings ASTM A53 GrB with Devran 261QC low temperate cure epoxy (16 mils) finish coated full length. Structural Steel All steel plates and beams will be Devran 261QC low temperate cure epoxy (16 mils) and conform to ASTM A-53 grade B. Lumber All lumber will be grade 2 or better (most is grade 1) and marked in conformance with WCLIB standard grading rules and will be wood pressure treated with ACZA. Steel brackets All of the steel components will be Devran 261QC low temperate cure epoxy (16 mils) for long life and to prevent rusting. 3

4 Fasteners All fasteners, bolts, nuts and nails will be hot-dip galvanized. Carpentry Lumber will be graded in conformance with WCLIB grading rules. Preservatives All wood preservatives to be state approved and will be applied and fully cured prior to installation over the water. All hardware and fasteners to be hot dipped galvanized. Best Management Practices 1. Above the Water Line Work 1. Seaborn Pile Driving Company will employ one each crane barge and one each supply for above water work. A tug will tow the barges on and off the job site. 2. Material Handling 1. During removal of the existing dock and piles and installation of the new piles a floating containment boom will completely surround the work area. 3. Hazardous Materials No hazardous materials will be mixed or stored in or near the water. No cleaning of materials will be performed in or near the water. 4. Polluting Materials in Water Seaborn Pile Driving Company will take extra precautions to ensure materials don t fall into or pollute the water. Any material that enters the water will be removed immediately. Any hazardous material such as oily rags will not be handled near or over the water. A spill kit will be employed on the barges at the job site. If any pollutants enter the water, Seaborn Pile Driving Company will contact the appropriate agencies and report the spill immediately. 5. Materials Disposal 4

5 Seaborn Pile Driving Company will dispose of the rotten wood and pile sections in an approved legal disposal site in accordance with all applicable laws and permit requirements. 6. Treated Wood Any treated wood installed by Seaborn Pile Driving Co. will meet the Best Management Practices for Treated Wood in Western Aquatic Environments. 5
