2 KERAMIX SYSTEM IN INTERIOR AREAS AREA OF APPLICATION Kiilto Keramix is an under tile waterproofing system for walls and floors in wet areas when using ceramic tiles. It is not recommended for areas constantly under water (e.g. swimming pools). Mixed Keramix must be used within approx. 45 minutes. Can be used together with other Kiilto waterproofing systems, provided that the junction of different systems goes along the floor-wall line. SUBSTRATE Suitable substrates are concrete, mansonry, cement-based levelling screed or wet room construction board. Ground supported floors must have a barrier layer to prevent the rising damp. The substrate must be dry, solid, dust-free and even. All impurities that might impair adhesion must be carefully removed. Uneven floors are sanded and/or smoothed with cement based Kiilto smoothing compound. When renovating floors with underfloor heating, we recommend Kiilto Lattialämmitystasoite DF over heating cables and for building slopes. Underfloor heating system is always installed under the waterproofing as per manufacturer s instruc-tions. Prepare the surface prior to levelling according to separate instructions. Make sure that the construction is suitable for waterproofing and tiling. REINFORCING Use Kiilto Nurkkavahvikenauha together with Keramix in corners, joints, inlets and material junctions. Alternatively you can use Kiilto Kerasafe Saumanauha or Kiilto Butyylinauha tape. Press Nurkkavahvikenauha onto wet Keramix, and to insure proper wetting, continue by brushing Keramix over the reinforcement. In wall-floor junctions the tape is lifted min. 5 cm up on the wall. For inside and outside corners you can use pre-fabricated corner pieces. See that the reinforcements lap each other at least 30 mm. Floor drain is reinforced with a self-adherent Kiilto Kaivolaippa. Its compatibility with most common floor drains is tested. TOOLS Power drill with an automatic whisk, roller, brush, plastic trowel and trimming knife. Tools and fresh stains can be washed with water. Dry stains can be removed only mechanically. WORKING CONDITIONS Humidity of concrete: new concrete constructions < 90 % RH, old concrete constructions < 95 % RH. The room and surface temperature C. Conditions should be stable (no humidity and temperature variations) during the work to avoid dimension alterations in materials. Underfloor heating is turned off 2 days before the work starts and brought up gradually approx. a week after grouting. Drying of Keramix can be speeded up by efficient ventilation. CONSUMPTION Walls and floors: two layers of Keramix at the minimum: 2 x 0.75 kg/m² = thickness of dry Keramix membrane layer 0.8 mm; 10 kg + 10 l = approx. 13 m² and 5 kg + 5 l = approx. 6.5 m². Remove the cement skin and other impurities that might impair the adhesion. Surface must be clean and dustless before applying the primer. 3 WALLS 1. Moisten walls with water prior to levelling. 2. If needed, smooth the surface with Kiilto OT Light, TM DF, KL, TT, SR DF or SK Märkätilatasoite plaster. 3. Prime dry and dust-free wall with Kiilto Keraprimer according to instructions. 4. Prepare Kiilto Keramix in 1:1 (proportioning by weight). Install Kiilto Kerasafe Saumanauha or Kiilto Nurkkavahvikenauha tape in corners, joints and junctures of different materials. Alternatively you can use Kiilto Butyylinauha tape. Press reinforcement tape to wet waterproofing membrane and apply Keramix over the tape to ensure proper wetting. 5. Screw heads on board substrates can be covered with reinforcement sheet or sealed with e.g. Kiilto LW ready-mixed plaster, if needed. Pipe inlets can be reiniforced with pre-fabricated inlet reinforcements, a cut piece of Nurkkavahvikenauha tape or use thick, paste consistency of Keramix. 6. Roll Keramix waterproofing m embrane over the entire wall area and allow to dry for min. 1 h. Note the colour change. 7. Roll a second layer of Keramix waterproofing membrane and allow to dry for min. 1,5 h (colour change) prior to tiling. Total consumption of Keramix must be min. 1.5 kg/m² and layer thickness min. 0.8 mm. 8. Start tiling from the second row of tiles and fix tiles with e.g. Kiilto Superfix DF, Kiilto Saneerauslaasti or Kiilto Kerapid DF Pikasaneerauslaasti cementitious adhesive. FLOORS 1. Kiilto 60 Pikalattiamassa screed is well suited for casting the floor. Use steel reinforcement. Underfloor heating cables can be fixed to the steel reinforcement. 2. Screed substrate is primed with diluted Kiilto Start Primer (1:4) prior to smoothing. 3. For slopes and installing heating cables in wet areas you can also use Kiilto Lattialämmitystasoite DF or MultiPlan DF screed. Read separate instructions on smoothing and priming.

4 4. Prime dry and dust free floor with Kiilto Keraprimer according to instructions. 5. Apply Kiilto KeraSafe Saumanauha or Nurkkavahvikenauha tape in corners, joints, junctions of different materials as well as screw heads. Alternatively you can use Kiilto Butyylinauha. Press reinforcement tape into wet Keramix and apply Keramix over the tape to ensure proper wetting. 6. Floor drain is waterproofed with self-adherent Kiilto Kaivolaippa. Place Kiilto Kaivolaippa on dry, primed floor surface and press firmly in position. Cut off a hole in it (approx. 60 mm smaller than the drains diameter) and press the clamp ring firmly in position. 7. Apply Kiilto Nurkkavahvikenauha tape on the edges of Kiilto Kaivolaippa without reinforcement and brush Keramix up to the clamp ring. 8. Roll Keramix waterproofing membrane over the entire floor area and let dry min. 1 h. Note the colour change. 9. Inlets can be sealed also with paste waterproofing membrane. 10. Roll a second layer of Keramix and allow to dry min. 1,5 h (colour change) prior to tiling. The total consumption of Keramix should be for min. 1.5 kg/m2 and layer thickness for min. 0,8 mm. 11. Let Keramix dry and start tiling the floor. Fix tiles with Kiilto Superfix DF, Kiilto Saneerauslaasti, Kiilto HighFlex S2 or Kiilto Kerapid DF Pikasaneerauslaasti. 12. After the floor tiling has dried, you can fix the lowest wall tile row and start grouting the tiles. 13. Start grouting from walls. Apply Kiilto Saumalaasti with a rubber trowel and press the grout in the joints. Wait for minutes and wash off excessive grout with a damp sponge. 14. Use a well-wrung, damp sponge, since too much water may discolour the joints. Wall joints profile can be finished with a thick electric wire. 15. Wipe away any excess grout from corners and seam them as well as pipeline inlets with Kiilto Saniteettisilikoni. Wait until the next day before using the new bathroom, but keep the underfloor heating system turned off for a week and bring the system up to its operation temperature gradually.
