2 TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IRELAND (TII) PUBLICATIONS About TII Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) is responsible for managing and improving the country s national road and light rail networks. About TII Publications TII maintains an online suite of technical publications, which is managed through the TII Publications website. The contents of TII Publications is clearly split into Standards and Technical documentation. All documentation for implementation on TII schemes is collectively referred to as TII Publications (Standards), and all other documentation within the system is collectively referred to as TII Publications (Technical). This system replaces the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges ( ) and the Manual of Contract s for Road Works ( MCDRW). Attributes Each document within TII Publications has a range of attributes associated with it, which allows for efficient access and retrieval of the document from the website. These attributes are also contained on the inside cover of each current document, for reference. For migration of documents from the and RPA to the new system, each current document was assigned with new outer front and rear covers. Apart from the covers, and inside cover pages, the documents contain the same information as previously within the or RPA systems, including historical references such as those contained within and MCDRW. Attributes TII Publication TII Publication Number Volume Contents and Alpha-Numeric Index to the GE-CON Activity General (GE) Set Standards Stream Contents (CON) Publication Date March 2015 Number Historical GD 02 and MCDRW s For all documents that existed within the or the MCDRW prior to the launch of TII Publications, the document reference used previously is listed above under historical reference. The TII Publication Number also shown above now supersedes this historical reference. All historical references within this document are deemed to be replaced by the TII Publication Number. For the equivalent TII Publication Number for all other historical references contained within this document, please refer to the TII Publications website.

4 Summary: This document provides a list, volume by volume, of the current documents of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. It also provides an index in alpha-numeric order. This document is updated regularly and may be used as a check of the current status of the and the implementation documents. Recent changes are listed on Pages 24 to 27. 6 1. CONTENTS s Available for Use in Ireland 1.1 The has been prepared specifically for the design, construction and management of National Roads in Ireland. GD 02 provides the volume contents and alpha-numeric index to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges: it should be read in conjunction with GD 01: Introduction to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges. 1.2 The contains a mix of Standards and Advice Notes. Standards are designated by the letters BD, BE, GD, HD, SH or TD and Advice Notes by the letters BA, HA and TA. 1.3 The Standards and Advice Notes of Volumes 0 to 9 of the are listed in the tables in section one. These tables provide the reference (Volume, Section, ), the full title and the date of publication of each document. The tables in section 2 provide a full alpha numeric listing of all the documents in alphabetical order. Historical Note The was originally based largely on the UK Design Manual for Roads and Bridges when it was first published, with appropriate adaptations for use in Ireland. Since that time, the has gradually developed more and more stand-alone documentation that is fully independent of the UK. For reasons of scale, economy, necessity and priority, the objective to develop a Manual that stands fully independent of the UK has not yet been achieved. As a result, certain documentation included as Addenda and those documents included for background reading continue to rely wholly or partly on their UK equivalent. The following points should be noted: 1. All references to the UK Standards and Advice Notes shall be read as references to the documents as implemented in accordance with the relevant. 2. Volumes 10 to 15 of the UK are not implemented for use in Ireland although some elements may be cross referenced by the Environmental Assessment and Construction Guidelines and by the Project Appraisal Guidelines. 3. UK Standards and Advice Notes indicated in italics are not formally implemented by the but should be considered as 'background reading' indicating good practice for the activity, or materials, under consideration. Users of these documents must make due allowance for any differences from UK circumstances. 4. Some UK Standards and Advice Notes are specifically excluded from the. These are considered as conflicting with current practice in Ireland (or be of no relevance) and are listed in the Tables 0a to 9a. They should, accordingly, not be referred to. 5. In some cases the continues to reference parts of the UK that have been superseded or withdrawn from the UK. The relevant UK document date of these parts is highlighted by the use of an 'antique text' style. March

This index lists documents relating to the UK which have been adopted for use in Ireland. With the exception of those Standards and Advice Notes which are for background reading only, UK documents which have not been implemented in Ireland are not listed. 2. Standards and Advice Notes which have been prepared by the National Roads Authority to replace the equivalent UK documents are prefixed with and shown with an asterisk (for example, BD 2/01*). They are included in the relevant parts of the index. 3. All Standards and Advice Notes of the UK which have been adopted for use in Ireland have a corresponding which describes particular requirements of the National Roads Authority. The date of the current is given for each document. 4. The UK number is given for each document to assist in locating it within the manual. These numbers are in the form Volume.Section. (e.g ). However, documents issued before the compilation of the UK in 1992 (and some later ones) do not have numbers; they are identified by Volume and Section and are generally placed at the end of the relevant Section. Also, in some instances several documents have the same number. 5. The documents listed in Tables 1 and 3 have been published since the issue of the previous edition of the Alpha-Numeric Index. 6. Lists of the documents withdrawn since the previous edition of the Alpha-Numeric Index are included in Tables 2 and 4. These documents have been archived as appropriate. March
