Acting Director of Public Works TOPIC: City Manager Approval: ~ File No.: NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR B STREET COMMUNITY CENTER SIDING REPLACEMENT PROJECT SUBJECT: ACCEPT COMPLETION OF THE B STREET SIDING REPLACEMENT PROJECT, CITY PROJECT NO , AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY CLERK TO FILE THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council accept completion of the project and authorize the City Clerk to file the Notice of Completion. BACKGROUND: The existing wood shake, shingle style siding on the exterior of the B Street Community Center was installed when the building was first constructed. Full replacement of the existing siding was needed to prevent the infiltration of water likely to damage internal supports, electrical systems and interior functions of the building. This project involved the removal of the existing wood shake, decorative shingle around the perimeter, and on all sides of the auditorium rise. The existing siding had reached the end of its functional life with different levels of deterioration related to the amount of sun exposure. The existing wood shingles were replaced with metal siding material which has a longer life span and greater durability. The color and type of material was determined with the help of the Community Services Director from samples provided per the contract requirements. Even though the new siding is metal it has the same shape and aesthetic features of the original shake material. The Public Works Department worked closely with Community Services to coordinate construction operations to minimize disruptions to the public services provided at the facility. The project was advertised in accordance with San Rafael's Municipal Code on January 23, 2015, and sealed bids were publicly opened and read aloud on March 24, 2015, at 10:00 AM. On April 20, 2015, the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the Public Works Director to enter into an agreement with the low bidder, Wedge Roofing, Inc., and construction commenced on June 8, The project was completed on July 10, The following summarizes the project milestones and working days: File No.: Council Meeting: Disposition: FOR CITY CLERK ONLY
