3 1 INTRODUCTION OSSA was founded in 1952 in Spain, and nowadays is operating all over the world. OSSA is a leading specialist company in the underground construction sector specialized in four business segments: Construction, Energy, Mining and Services. 5 2 KEY HIGHLIGTHS MILESTONES OSSA s established as a family-owned mining company 1st Hydropower Plant Focus in Civil Engineering Tunnelling High Speed Train projects in Spain Majority stake buy-out by a private equity firm International expansion 2.1 History OSSA has vast recent experience both in high speed railway tunnels with over 75 km of high speed rail tunnelling projects, leading the Spanish market in this specialty, and also in underground hydroelectric power plants, having built over fifteen underground plants with some of the largest underground caverns in the world. As a highlight, we are participating in the design and construction of the Hong Kong to Shenzhen-Guangzhou High Speed Rail Line (XLR line, contract 824). Internationally, OSSA has undertaken works in Portugal, Greece, Panama, Taiwan and is presently working in Chile, Peru, Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Hong Kong, Norway and Israel. After more than 65 years of successful projects, our strategy is to continue expanding internationally, and to support large civil engineering and mining industry clients at all levels, contributing our vast technical expertise and our equipment fleet, while prioritizing health and safety and innovation in all our projects.

23 5 R&D&I OSSA cooperates with the leading engineering companies and machine manufacturers in the industry on design and improvement of equipment for underground works, and maintains a fluid collaborative relationship with its clients and suppliers, who are leaders in their sectors. Its objective of being at the technological forefront of tunnelling leads it to take an active part in research forums, and it is a member of the Spanish Technological Construction Platform, leading the Strategic Line in Underground Works. OSSA has established a framework of cooperation with universities and research centres of great distinction in the industry, such as the School of Mining Engineers at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), the Schools of Civil Engineering in Santander and Madrid (Unican and UPM), and technology and research centres such as the Eduardo Torroja Institute (IETcc-CSIC), CIMNE, AITEMIN, the Santa Bárbara Foundation and ITA, among others. OSSA runs an R&D&I System conforming to UNE Standard :2006.
