1 DuPont TM ReliatraN TM SOLID INSULATION DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMER

2 DuPont TM ReliatraN TM Single phase submersible solid insulation distribution transformer (SIDT) made with DuPont TM Nomex DuPont TM ReliatraN TM solid insulation distribution transformer (SIDT) represents a major advancement in technology, featuring high short circuit strength, maintenance free exterior polymer shell and dielectric system and improvements in operating safety. SIDTs are designed for sub-surface installations therefore high and low voltage connections are inaccessible to the public. Next, they are oil-free, and as a result, testing has shown that when subjected to a sustained fault condition, a SIDT failure mode is less severe. Finally, SIDT construction is fire-resistant and self extinguishing. The technology was tested to, and complies with, IEC Standard fire behavior test F1 Class. ReliatraN TM transformers fulfill the public preference for improved aesthetics - total underground distribution systems-while meeting the utility industry s environmental desire for fluid-free transformers. ReliatraN TM transformers, protected by their non-metallic outer shell, can operate in diverse underground environments. They are an ideal choice where environmental concerns about soil or groundwater contamination, or public exposure to mineral oil may occur. They afford distribution system design engineers increased flexibility in locating transformers while helping to increase operating safety and system reliability. Improved SIDT reliability features include: longer short circuit withstand time which exceeds applicable Industry Standards and proven by testing; the use of Nomex paper for extending critical insulation life; and the use of 100% solid dielectrics which can t leak and therefore diminish service life. Ratings kva: 25, 50, 75, 100, C average temperature rise Low Voltages: 240/120, 120/240, 480/240, 277, 347, 480, 575 High Voltages: single ratings from 4160GY/2400 through 27,700GRDY/16,000 BIL: High Voltage 60 to 125kV, Low Voltage 30kV Impedance range 2.5% - 3.5% Sound level less than 50dB Product Construction The unique combination of high performance insulating materials including DuPont TM Nomex 220 C UL rated paper, shielded composite envelope and a simple, yet highly effective, thermal design helps enable the ReliatraN TM to be applied with versatility and confidence. The electrical insulation system is comprised entirely of solid materials without any fluids or gases. Generally, the transformer technology consists of windings that are totally impregnated and encapsulated, using an automatic pressure gellation (APG) process, with a thermally conductive, electrically insulating epoxy resin. The transformer outer shell is constructed of durable polymer composite materials that offer excellent mechanical strength, and resistance to moisture and corrosion.

4 DuPont TM Nomex DuPont TM Nomex thermal technology provides reliability and super characteristics in the most demanding electrical applications Wherever there s a need for electrical insulation, there are usually Nomex brand products to fill it. In its various forms _ primarily papers and pressboards _ Nomex has the right balance of properties for use in transformers, motors, generators and other electrical equipment. This unique balance of properties has been providing reliability to manufacturers for over 35 years. Nomex is a synthetic aromatic polyamide polymer that provides high levels of electrical, chemical and mechanical integrity, when converted into its various sheet forms. Used properly, Nomex products can extend the life of electrical equipment, reduce premature failures and repairs, and act as a safeguard in unforeseen electrical stress situations. Nomex products have characteristics which make them ideally suited for electrical insulation applications. These characteristics may vary slightly in the different forms and types of Nomex. Within the family of Nomex products _ papers, pressboards, non-wovens, fabricated parts and specialised forms _ there is a solution to meet your particular requirements. Contact a DuPont representative for more information and assistance.

5 Superior Characteristics A unique combination of properties give Nomex superior characteristics Inherent Dielectric Strength In densified form, Nomex products withstand short-term electrical stresses of 18 to 40 KV/mm (457 to 1015 V/mil) depending on product type and thickness, with no need for further treatment with varnishes or resins. Mechanical Toughness Densified Nomex products are strong, resilient and (in the thinner grades) flexible, with good resistance to tearing and abrasion. Thermal Stability Temperatures up to 200 C have little or no effect on the electrical and mechanical properties of Nomex products, and useful values are retained at considerably higher temperatures. Furthermore, these useful properties are maintained for at least 10 years of continuous exposure at 220 C. Chemical Compatibility Nomex is essentially unaffected by most solvents, and is unusually resistant to attacks by acids and alkalis. It is compatible with all classes of varnishes and adheisves, transformer fluids, lubricating oils, and refrigerants. Since Nomex products are not digestible, they are not attacked by insects, fungi or mould. Cryogenic Capabilities Nomex has found acceptance in a variety of cryogenic applications due to its unique polymeric structure. At the boiling point of nitrogen (77 K), Nomex Type 410 paper as well as Nomex Type 993 and Nomex Type 994 pressboards have tensile strengths in excess of room temperature values. Moisture Insensitivity In equilibrium at 95 percent relative humidity, densified Nomex papers and pressboards maintain 90 percent of their bone-dry dielectric strength while many mechanical properties are actually improved. Radiation Resistant Nomex is essentially unaffected by 800 megarads (8 Mgy) of ionizing radiation and still retains useful mechanical and electrical properties after eight times this exposure. Non-Toxic/Flame Resistant Nomex products will not produce any known toxic reactions in humans or animals. Nomex products do not melt and, with a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) at 220 C above 20.8 (the critical value for combustion in normal air), they do not support combustion. Nomex products fulfilling UL 94V-0 requirements are available. A safety information brochure (MSDS) is available upon request.
