1 For tiles and laminate in new buildings & renovations mfh systems modern floor heating STRONGBOARD FL load distribution layer for low installation heights Simple one-person installation High aluminum content for laminate and tiles

2 Optimum heat transmission for new buildings & renovation The STRONGBOARD FL element is a polyester fibreboard with a high proportion of aluminium, laminated fleece and thermoplastic binders with high tensile and compressive strength. Due to the low weight of 4.9 kg per m², it is also suitable in static sensitive constructions. As a load distribution layer, STRONGBOARD FL is used for tile coverings and for floating laminate floorings The result: The good thermal conductivity ensures rapid transport of heat into the room. Simple processing elements in dry construction Immediate installation of the topsoil (tile or laminate) without waiting Tile sizes from 10 x 10 cm to 80 x 80 cm Article Dimensions (LxWxH) Item-no. 6 Laying of additional insulation and heating elements Laying instructions Fix edge insulation strips on the wall. Ends my not overlap. Pay attention to the height of the overall construction. Lay insulation panels. Place panels in a staggered bond, i.e. with offset-joints and crosswise to the later laying of IDEAL elements. When using blanc cuts, pay attention that the profi led fold stays intact and always fi ts tightly against each other. Adhere panels full-surface to the ground and use max. one insulation layer. Only use full panels in doorways. Begin with the head or side elements. Head elements with aluminium are recommended in order to improve pipe installation. Glue elements fully onto insulation/ground. Apply the adhesive (MAPEI Ecofix) thinly and allow the water to evaporate completely. If possible, screw the support batten in doorways to the substrate. This eases the installation of transition rails. Push system pipe in huge arcs and stress-free from above into the pipe channels. Laid surface of the System IDEAL EPS Until the STRONGBOARD FL elements are laid, use e. g. insulation panels as routes to protect the system from compression. 6

7 Laying STRONGBOARD FL Laying instructions! For a compound seal in bathrooms, a plastic-refined, cement-based sealing compound Mapelastic or Monolastic from MAPEI DichtSchlämme Flex 1-K (DSF 52) or TurboDichtSchlämme 2-K (TDS 82) from Sopro on STRONGBOARD FL is suitable! Laying is performed as an English bond. The joint offset must be greater than 20 cm cross joints are not permitted. The cutting of the panels can be performed using commercially available circular saws, plunge-cut saws or jigsaws. Place smaller pieces into the second-last row for improved load distribution. Maintain the bond. TILING FRESH AIR DRIED A tension-free installation is to be observed for surfaces completely laid using STRONGBOARD FL. Fix the STRONGBOARD FL to the heating elements with adhesive, e.g. Ecofix from MAPEI, across the whole surface in case of tile coverings. Apply Ecofix thinly and allow to air dry. After the water has completely evaporated, the adhesive adheres and turns dark yellow. The fixation attains an optimum adherence after air drying. Lay the elements and press firmly. TILING In case of tile coverings, cover the butt joints using a joint adhesive tape. The tape must not overlap. Protect the finished surface from soiling, adequately cover walkways e.g. using insulation panels. The surface floor can be laid directly. 7

8 Laying tiles on STRONGBOARD FL Laying instructions! Only lay tiles in combined procedures (buttering-floating) with MAPEI Elastorapid and Ultracolor Plus or Sopro megaflex S2 turbo (MEG 666) and Sopro DF 10 / Sopro DF 20! Mix approved tile adhesive and apply as a contact layer onto the substrate. Create ridged surface depending on the tile size; from 10 x 10 cm to 0 x 0 cm: 8 mm notched trowel, up to 80 x 80 cm: 10 mm notched trowel. Apply approved tile adhesive onto the rear side of the tile, also across entire surface and with small ridges. Lay tiles in buttering-floating procedure without cavities onto the prepared substrate. After insertion, press down tiles firmly and adjust. The adhesive bed thickness must then total at least 4 mm. Maintain joint widths; up to 0 x 0 cm at least mm, up to 40 x 40 cm at least 4 mm and up to 80 x 80 cm at least 5 mm. Joint the tiled area at the latest after 24 hours with approved jointing material. After setting of the joint mortar, clean the tiles diagonally to the joint. The waiting times for entering the surface and the commissioning of the floor heating must be observed in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions. 8
