IMPORTANT Please ensure this booklet is read and understood by every operator of this machine. Also ensure that this booklet goes with the machine if it is resold, and is read and understood by the new owner. WARNINGS All persons must be kept well clear of machine in operation. Shut the tractor off and lower machine to the ground before trying to clear feed material anywhere from the machine. Before attempting maintenance, ensure the tractor engine is shut off and machine lowered to the ground. Do not allow any person(s) to ride on the platform. Always lift the platform to an approximate 45 O angle when travelling, regardless of whether carrying a bale or not. Watch carefully when driving for over-width and tail-swing when travelling through gateways or near objects or people. When feeder is not being used, ensure children can not play or slide on the platform. 3

Should you have any questions please contact the dealer who supplied you this machine. They have trained technicians who will be able to help you. SPECIFICATIONS Hydraulic Requirements: Pressure: PSI. Flow: L/min. (We recommend restrict flow to 25L/min max). 2 x sets of double acting hydraulic remotes. TRACTOR SIZE: Large enough to safely handle the bale feeder and 1 bale (1000kg maximum bale capacity). HOSE CONNECTIONS: CHAINLESS 2000 WEIGHT: 490kg. 2 hoses to inside lever which operates platform. 2 hoses to outside lever which operates rotors. 4

WARNING! Before attempting any maintenance, ensure tractor engine is shut off and no one is near the hydraulic controls. MAINTENANCE (Also do this before initial operation) grease at points of contact Grease the 8 grease points - especially drive sprocket, drive and pins - regularly. Use a minimal amount of grease. sprocket pin s s s s s s s sprocket pin Keep the chains oiled. Use a non-tacky black or brown chain lube regularly. If the machine is not to be used for a long period of time, spray the ram shaft with CRC Soft Seal or similar to protect against rust. After the first 10 hours of operation and during routine servicing ensure that grubscrews and bolts are tight. Check operation of the safety latch. sprocket grease daily CHECK FOR SHAFT PLAY These flats should line up on each set when timed correctly rear view If rear chain is replaced or removed, ensure feed drums are timed correctly, as shown; OPERATING TECHNIQUES CONNECTING BALE FEEDER ONTO TRACTOR Tighten the sway chains. Connect the hoses so that: Lever 1 - lever back - rotors feed out. Lever 2 - lever back - platform lifts. With the bale feeder resting on the ground, adjust the top link so the top link pin is half way along the slot. The hydraulic flow rate should turn the top rotor 1 turn / 2-3 seconds. This equals L/min flow. Restrict your flow to within this range if possible. The hydraulic flow should actuate the platform at a smooth, controlled rate i.e. not too jerky or sudden. 5

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ALL TYPES OF ROUND & SQUARE BALES LOADING BALES ALL TYPES OF ROUND BALES 1. For wrapped bales, cut the front off the bale (see fig. 1). Spear into bale, lift and remove the rest of the plastic. FIG. 1 s Cut ends and top of bale s Undress bale Spear into the bale and load the platform.(if the round is badly flattened, roll bale over on the ground with the tynes before loading so the flat is on the top. This will help to start the bale turning.) Ensure the bale is straight on the platform. Cut and remove all the string. Pull Cut the strings across here 6

TO TRANSPORT 2. Lift the platform up to cradle the bale securely against the rotors while travelling - to mark indicated on frame. 45 O TO FEED 3. Keep the platform as high as practical - to mark indicated on frame - then operate the rotors to start feeding out. 30 O Once the bale starts turning, the platform can be lowered to a safer height if desired. As the bale is fed out and the diameter reduces, lift the platform up to keep the bale against the rotors. Getting the bale turning is the secret to successful feeding out. (The higher the platform, the better the chance of turning - even the most odd shaped bales.) 45 O 4. Start feeding and travelling at the same time. On an older bale, the material tends to come off thicker or quicker. Simply stop/start the rotors to minimise this. 5. Drive in a circle slightly to the right. This helps to see the hay feeding onto the ground. Select a higher gear to achieve a thinner feed-out line if required. 7

TIP: To feed out on a hillside, start feeding out the down side rather than the uphill side to start the bale turning. After that any way is OK. ALL TYPES OF SQUARE BALES 1. For wrapped bales - first cut off the plastic. Back in to the bale with the tynes and load onto the platform. Hay and straw bales - back in to the bale with the tynes. If the bale is too tight to spear, lift underneath the bale and load onto the platform. 2. Cut and remove all the string. Pull out Cut strings across here TO TRANSPORT 3. Lift the platform up to a safe angle when travelling - to band 2 - approximately 45 o. It is safer and less chance of hitting gateways. TO FEED 4. When ready to feed, lower platform - to band 1 - approximately 30 o angle - and operate the rotors to start feeding either one biscuit at a time or intermittantly. Drive in a slight right hand turn to be able to see the feeding pattern better. Most silage bales will tease out. (Some hay or straw bales won t tease out, especially if they were wet when they were baled.) If several biscuits are coming off together, lower the platform slightly. Jog the rotors i.e. 3/4 turn back, 1 forward etc. to help break up. (Do not reverse top rotors more than one turn at a time!) 5. Near the end of the bale, lift the platform to help feed out the remainder of the material. BRIEF SUMMARY ROUNDS - To carry and feed out - set platform angle to Band 2 (approximately 45 O ) SQUARES - To carry - set platform angle to Band 2 (approximately 45 O ) SQUARES - To feed - set platform angle to Band 1 (approximately 30 O ) to feed out 8

TROUBLE SHOOTING ROUND BALES PROBLEM: The rotors turn OK but the bale won t revolve. SUGGESTED REMEDY: The platform is not high enough. The higher the platform the more weight of the bale is on the rotors. It may be too late if it has taken a gouge out of the bale. Remove the bale and try again unless it is a fine chopped bale as it will fall apart. The speed of the rotors is too fast, chewing off some hay before the bale has time to turn. Slow down the top rotor to 1 revolution every 2-3 seconds. Clean platform and spray silicon onto platform. Purchase a set of weld on cleats (if machine doesn t have them) for the lower drum. This adds extra bite to the bale. Part code: CH-47/48. PROBLEM: Hay or silage jams in the wiper panel. SUGGESTED REMEDY: Reverse the rotors one turn only and then forward again. The wiper panel may need adjusting. Increase the clearance between the drum and the wiper panel. NOTE: Early models (pre-march 04) have adjusters. Adjust tags to just touch rotors. The new style Freeflow wiper panel will retrofit. Part code: CH-7. PROBLEM: Bale starts falling apart after removing the plastic or the net wrap, even when I try removing it carefully. SUGGESTED REMEDY: Remove the covering just before lowering the bale onto the platform. For very difficult bales, lower bale onto platform and remove the covering around the bale where you can, and collect the rest afterwards. PROBLEM: The rotors won t turn. SUGGESTED REMEDY: A string still left in the bale is wrapping around the rotor causing it to jam - remove the string. Hydraulic pressure too low - check the tractor hydraulic pressure. A key is shorn on the hydraulic motor shaft or a sprocket. Replace key. Hoses not fully connecting at tractor or in wrong sockets SQUARE BALES PROBLEM: Several biscuits coming off at once. SUGGESTED REMEDY: The platform is too high - lower platform. The biscuits congealed too tightly together when baled - reverse the top rotors 1 turn then forward again (repeat this continually). If the bales are too tightly compressed you may not be able to tease them out separately. PROBLEM: Bales are too long for the platform. SUGGESTED REMEDY: Purchase the optional extension kit for the platform. Order Code: CH-EXT Bar 9

TROUBLE SHOOTING GENERAL PROBLEM: Bales coming over the drums. SUGGESTED REMEDY: Slow down the rotors. They don t need to turn fast - or lower the platform once the bale has started feeding. PROBLEM: Bale rotates but hay will not feed. SUGGESTED REMEDY: Try changing the rotation of the bale by lifting the platform to expel the bale over the top of the rotors onto the ground. Simply unhitch 3PTL Frame, pick up bale from the other direction and re-load. PROBLEM: Outer layer of bale separating from the inner layer. SUGGESTED REMEDY: If this occurs the platform should be cleaned and silicon sprayed on, as the residue can stop the bale rotating properly. 10
