7 SUSTAINABLE LIVING performance and environment We are a fully owned Danish company located in north Jutland. All products are produced in our modern factory ensuring our tight quality control procedures are met at all times. Our timber is produced using the process of the SYSTEM 2ØKO* timber engineering. This process ensures that all external faces are of Heartwood. It also removes all defects from the timber including shake, dead knots and pockets of resin. The timber is then finger jointed with each joint being almost twice as strong as a standard profile. As a result of this the vacum impregnation process is eliminated and therefore further reducing the impact on the environment. Also a new electrostatic paint system has been introduced to our production. All products are now scanned and then robotically spray painted ensuring all elements have an unrivalled uniform finish when they leave the factory. At KRONE WINDOWS we always strive to be second to none in the development of energy efficient elements as well as in our manufacturing processes. All our products are Energy Rated. 16 COto PERFORMANCE comparison and choice COto is the new Super Low E energy saving window system from KRONE WINDOWS. It has a documented U-value as low as 0,5 W/m2K for the combined frame and glazing. This outstanding low u-value is achieved by combining a 48 mm Super Low E Triple Glazed Unit with an innovatively designed insulated frame. This means that when compared to a standard Double Glazed system over 70% of energy is saved when using our new COto system. COto is available in all possible designs. COto are windows on time and for the future. The system is ideal for renovation and new build as well as passive houses. The newly developed frame construction also means that the window can withstand higher wind loads than traditional alu/wood windows and with narrow window sills more light passses through. COto can be delivered in various colours and wood types and it is also possible to change colour externally through only replacing the external aluminum profiles.

A low figure is equal to good insulation properties. U-values on modern windows are normally in the range from 1 to 2 W/m2K. G-value measures the energy which passes through the glass from the outside which is called the energy transmission. A high value is equal to a high heat flow. G values are seen in the range from 0.3 to E.ref (used on the Danish sun and weather condition average calculation). In order to compare windows on an equal basis a unified measuring system is developed called E.ref. The calculation is based on a standard window sized 1230mm x 1480mm. The calculation is: E.ref = (G-value x 196.4) - (U-value x 90.36). Note it is the total U-value of the entire window and the corrected G value. A positive E.ref figure means that the window contributes energy throughout the year. It is the only optimised window systems which currently is able to present a positive value.
