2 SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS PART 2 PUMP CONSTRUCTION 2.1 GENERAL Note: Delete reference to wastewater if not applicable and insert the fluid type. The pump casing shall be designed for handling (wastewater) and shall be of cast iron conforming to ASTM A48, Class 30 or better, of sufficient thickness and suitably ribbed to withstand all stresses and strains of service at full operating pressure. The pump casing shall be of the volute type and shall be suspended from a 1/2 inch minimum thickness hot rolled steel suspension plate. Each pump shall be fitted with a cast iron suction inlet screen. 2.2 SUCTION SCREEN A cast iron suction screen, permitting solids no larger than those capable of passing through the impeller, shall be firmly fastened to the pump suction. The screen openings shall not constrict the flow. The sum of the area shall allow free flow through the suction of 125% of the maximum capacity of the pump. 2.3 IMPELLER The impeller shall be a balanced non-clogging type made of close-grained cast iron conforming to ASTM A48 Class 30 or better. The impeller shall be single suction, open, semi-open or enclosed; multi-vane, radial flow design with well rounded leading vanes and then tapered toward the trailing edge for a circular flow pattern. The waterways through the impeller shall have extremely smooth contours devoid of sharp corners. The impeller shall be cast in one piece and shall be dynamically balanced. The impeller shall be of the Yeomans Lubri-Vac design to provide integral vacuum assistance to the lower bearing lubrication and shall include back-vanes to force solids and grit away from the lower pump bearing area. The impeller shall be keyed to the shaft and firmly held in place by a streamlined 316 stainless steel or bronze locking device. The arrangement shall be such that the impeller cannot be loosened by torque from either forward or reverse rotation. 2.4 SHAFT The pump shaft shall be made of: Standard: alloy steel, type AISI 1045 turned, ground and polished and shall be sized as indicated on Table 1. Optional: type 316 stainless steel, ASTM A276-80a material. PAGE 3062 ISSUE 2/05

3 SUSPENDED, SCREENED WET-PIT PUMPS 2.5 MOTOR SUPPORT / BEARING FRAME / STUFFING BOX The pump shall include a combination motor support, bearing housing and stuffing box made of iron casting(s), type ASTM A48 Class 30 material. This structure shall provide rigged motor support and shall be machined for standard C-face mounting solid-shaft NEMA frame vertical motors. Ample space shall be provided for installation and removal of the motor coupling. This structure shall also provide the support and alignment of the pump thrust bearing. The thrust bearing shall be of the heavy-duty steel ball type and shall be grease lubricated. The thrust bearing location shall be located a minimum of 6 to 9 inches above the pump suspension plate to help prevent bearing contamination from washdown water or flooding. A micrometer adjusting collar shall be provided just above the thrust bearing housing to permit axial movement of the pump rotating element for adjustment of the impeller clearance to maintain pump efficiency and reduce operating costs. The stuffing box shall include a solid one-piece bronze gland and shall be fitted with synthetic, self-lubricating packing to help prevent the upward migration of noxious gases or foul odors. The motor support and stuffing box shall be indexed into the pump suspension plate for positive alignment. 2.6 COLUMN AND DISCHARGE PIPES The pump shaft shall be enclosed in a suspension pipe. A separate discharge pipe shall also be included. All pipe construction is to be of Schedule 40 wrought steel with screwed on flanges and machined true for a positive tongue and groove connected fit. Use of welded flanges or doweled alignment methods is strictly prohibited. A 45 deg. flanged cast iron elbow shall be provided above the suspension plate for piping connection. Optional: For Two-Section Pump Construction ADD the following: Each pump shall be manufactured and shipped in two (2) sections. The section split shall be located at the nominal mid-point between the pump suspension plate and the volute casing. Flange connections for the column and discharge pipes shall be included at the section break. Suitable couplings shall be included for the shaft and lubrication lines. ISSUE 2/05 PAGE 3063

4 SUGGESTED SPECIFICATIONS 2.7 PUMP AND INTERMEDIATE SLEEVE BEARINGS AND LUBRICATION SYSTEMS A renewable sleeve-type pump bearing shall be furnished directly above the pump casing. For pit-depths over 6-0, renewable sleeve-type intermediate bearings shall also be furnished. Spacing between all sleeve bearings shall not exceed 4-9. The sleeve bearings are to be a minimum of 3 in length and shall have a wall-thickness of 3/8 minimum. The sleeve bearings shall be of the (insert bearing material type from chart below) type. All sleeve bearings shall be fitted with a lubrication system appropriate for the specified bearing material. The lubrication system shall consist of (insert text for the desired system based upon the bearing material and lubrication system descriptions listed below).
