2 STAINLESS STEEL DRAINAGE Significant cost savings Best material with lowest whole-life costs The demands made on drainage systems are heavy since they are often exposed to large water volumes, high temperatures and various cleaning products in all applications such as hospitals, restaurants, food processing industries and pharmaceutical industries. But often the choice of drainage system is based on the direct costs of the system. Even though calculations show that considering costs of installation, labour and product-life expectancy, a stainless steel drainage system will be more cost-effective in the long run. For instance calculations show that when the costs of installing a plastic drainage system in Denmark amount to EUR 430, the installation costs for an equivalent stainless steel drainage system will be only EUR 280. The weight of stainless steel is only 1/3 of that of cast iron, and consequently also the costs of transportation and labour are reduced considerably when using stainless steel. A stainless steel drainage system is made from a durable material that will last at least as long as the building in which it is installed without large costs for repairs or replacements.

6 STAINLESS STEEL DRAINAGE Sustainable solutions 100% recyclable Stainless steel is 100% recyclable for new materials and new products. It is a non-toxic product not requiring any coating or other surface treatment, and this makes recycling even easier and cleaner. In addition, stainless steel does not emit any toxic fumes in the event of fire.

7 Low weight reduces CO 2 emission Transport is one of the main sources of CO 2 emission. The level of emission is dependent on the volume and weight of the goods carried. A stainless steel drainage system weighs only one third of a similar cast-iron product and will consequently cause much less CO 2 emission than heavier materials. Stainless steel pipes have thinner walls, and their inner surface is smoother and consequently more hygienic. This means that a stainless steel pipe has a higher capacity than a similar pipe size in other materials. In addition, stainless steel has a low coefficient of expansion - up to times lower than plastics. The lower weight also offers numerous benefits to health and safety at work. First and foremost installation becomes easier, and less manpower is required to carry out the installation work - it can often be handled by one man on his own. Long product life Stainless steel is practically maintenance-free, and this minimises costs of maintenance and repair. Even when the useful life of the building comes to an end, the stainless steel products will still be as good as new.
