2 RockLink 24 Monolith Gypsum / MF plasterboard border Rockfon s with edge detail D in module size x are suit able for installation using this system. RockLink 24 Monolith is characterised by quick installation compared to existing concealed grid systems. This is due to the lower number of components and fixings. 7 RockLink 24 Monolith also provides easy access to services due to its demountability. 5 When creating a ceiling using RockLink 24 Monolith, the main runners should be positioned 5 at 800 mm centres. 800 mm long cross tees are positioned at centres. Hangers are positioned at max. 200 mm centres. Description max 450 mm 200 mm mm max. 200 mm to wall *) RockLink 24 Monolith is a concealed grid suitable for the installation of Rockfon s with edge detail D in module size x. It comprises main runners, cross tees, hangers, perimeter trims and a variety of RockLink 24 Monolith offers the possibility for perimeter finishing with gypsom / MF plasterboard border accesso ries. RockLink 24 Monolith can be either suspended or directly fastened to the soffit using a variety of hangers. Tiles installed in this system are fully demountable. See installation and demounting instructions for full details. A A ross section B-B B Tile installation sequence mm 800 mm 800 mm Step Step 2 Step 3 ross tee After the grid has been installed, installation is commenced by positioning the first (Tile ) between two cross tees so that one side of the with edge detail is locked on the main runner. The same principle is used for the installation of the next (Tile 2) in the opposite end of each 800 mm x bay. Tile joint The remaining (Tile 3) is positioned in the middle be tween the two cross tees. This (Tile 3) is fully demountable. Demountability The middle (Tile 3) in every 800 mm x 600 mm bay re mains fully demountable after finished installation. To de mount the middle, press up carefully at the centre of the until it becomes loose and can be re moved. The other two s can then be removed by pulling them free from the main runners and lifting them out. System components and consumption guide Quantity/m s positioned at 800 mm centres. 4 Perimeter finish options Here are some options for perimeter finishing: Perimeter trim should be installed 0 mm lower than the grid system. Wall clips should be positioned along the cut edges of perimeter s. For options - 4, it is important that the s are cut 5 mm less than the distance from the vertical face of the perimeter trim to the grid.. Angle trim 2. Shadow batten and angle trim When using direct hangers, the cut and shortened cross tees should be installed successively in order to ease installation. 5 Finishing options with MF plasterboard borders Rockfon RockLink 24 Monolith can be finished with MF plaster board borders and remain fully de mountable. However, it is important that the MF plasterboard border is set out and constructed so as to allow full size s to be used. When setting out, always use as many full 800 mm x bays as possible. Plasterboard border Type Type 3 In addition, supplementary Type, Type 2 and Type 3 s together with 200 mm and cross tees may be required to complete the ceiling. Type Type 3 The grid layout at the border will vary depending on the distance between the main runners and the border. If there is room for 3 s, use s. 6 Service integration A variety of service installations and lights can be easily inte grated into this system and Rockfon ceiling s. When installing services, there may be a need for additional hangers. This will depend on the weight and position of the services. The following guide lines should be observed. The ceiling alone should not support service installations. Lightweight Installation loads should always be adequately spread on the back of the using thin metal yokes and the insertion of angle splines. See illustrations on this page and figure D4. Services exceeding 500 g in weight, eg. Recessed modular luminaires should always be independently supported, or additional hangers should be positioned at the centre of the 800 mm cross tees as illustrated below. Metal yoke Spotlight integration seen from above, up to 500 g. Angle spline Spotlight integration etc. Additional hanger Additional hanger Hanger Additional hanger Installation of recessed modular luminaires. Light installation details See datasheet for guideline concerning lighting installation. When integrating recessed modular luminaries, it is important to ensure that the 800 mm cross tees supporting the luminaire are fitted with additional hangers. Alternatively, the luminaire should be independently supported. These luminaires should have a nominal face dimension of 598 mm mm and a flange width which exceeds 24 mm. These are available from leading lighting manufacturers. Smoke detector integration See datasheet for guideline concerning installation of smoke detectors. Sprinkler integration See datasheet for guideline concerning installation of sprinklers. Ventilation integration See datasheet for guideline concerning installation of various types of ventilation and air conditioning items. Speaker integration See datasheet for guideline concerning installation of speakers.

7 Installation guide Perimeter Finishing Junction between ceiling and wall or other vertical surface The perimeter trim should be fastened to vertical surfaces at the required level using appro priate fixings at maximum 450 mm centres. The perimeter trim should be positioned 0 mm below the grid system. Ensure that butt joints between ad joining lengths of trim are neat and that the trim is free from kinks and remains true and level. For the best aesthetics, use as long a length of trim as possible. The minimum recommended cut length is 300 mm. Junction between ceiling and curved vertical surface The use of a preformed curved perimeter trim is the most appro priate method. This should be installed as described above. Rockfon can provide details of curved perimeter trims on request. Tile installation Install s as shown in figure. Refer also to the installation sequence section.the wearing of gloves is recommended in order to avoid soiling the s. When using cut s at the perimeter, wall clips should be positioned on the perimeter trim as shown in fig.. The is pushed towards the spring, then lowered down on to the grid. The clip will push the into position and form a tight joint. Where there is enough space in the ceiling void, the perimeter s can be installed with wall clips by gaining access through the penultimate row of s. The penultimate row of s should then be installed last of all. Rockfon s are easy to cut by using a sharp knife. Edge paint should be applied to any visible cut edges. Angle splines Angle splines should be inserted in the edge detail when the s are loaded from the rear side, e.g. with light fittings and loud speakers or when the ceiling is being used for fire protecting / fire resisting purposes. See figure D4. Fire Resisting / Protecting eilings This system can be used in conjunction with Rockfon s to create a 30 minutes fire resisting / protec ting ceiling construc tion in accordance with BS 476. Enhanced orrosion Resistance (ER) This system provides excellent longevity, however, it is also available in an enhanced corro sion resistant (ER) format for use in harsh environment applications eg. swimming pools. orners Perimeter trims should be neatly mitred at all corner joints. Overlap mitres are acceptable on metal trims on internal corner joints unless specified otherwise. Main grid Unless specified otherwise, the ceiling should be set out symmetrically and where possible, perimeter s should be greater than 200 mm in width. The hangers should be fastened with appropriate top fixings and to the main runners at 200 mm centres. s should be positioned at 800 mm centres and levelled at the appropriate ceiling height. joints should be staggered and there should be a hanger positioned within 50 mm of the fire expansion joint and within 450 mm of the end of the main runner where it terminates at a perimeter. Additional hangers may be necessary to support the weight of ceiling services. When using direct hangers, a fixing nail should be used to lock the hanger on to the bulb of the main runner. Direct fixing Fasten the main runners to the structure by means of direct hangers at 200 mm centres, see figure D3. As a minimum, every other direct hanger should have a fixing nail used to lock the hanger onto the bulb of the main runner. Ensure that the ceiling is levelled at the appro priate ceiling height as described above. Accessories Hangers Wire and adjustable rod hangers should be fastened through the holes in the stalk of the main runners. Wire hangers should be passed through the hole and wrapped at least three times around itself. Adjustable rod hangers should be orientated and connected to main runners so that the lower sections of the hangers run in the same direction. Top Fixings Top fixings are available from many specialist suppliers. It is important to be sure that the top fixings used to support the ceiling are appropriate for the specific soffit and that they provide adequate pull out strength when installed.
