2 SYSTEM WORK INSTRUCTIONS APPLICATION Fast, one-component waterproofing system for wet room floor and wall surfaces, when ceramic tiles are laid. We do not recommend the use of Kiilto KeraPro in installations that are continuously under water (e.g. swimming pools). The thermal resistance of the formed membrane is < 70 C (to be observed in the installation of a wood-burning sauna stove). SUBSTRATE A strong rock-material substrate or building board suited for wet rooms. The substrate must match the surface of a wood floated surface from where possible old coating, cement paste, dust and other layers weakening the bond have been removed. Humidity of the concrete substrate max. 90% RH. Ground-supported structures must have a layer for intercepting the capillary rise of humidity. Uneven substrates are ground and/or levelled with a cement-based Kiilto plaster. Underfloor heating systems are always installed underneath the waterproofing layer according to the manufacturer instructions. Before levelling, the substrates are treated according to separate instructions. Always ensure that the structure is a suitable substrate for waterproofing and tiling. COVERAGE Wall surfaces, at least two applications: approx l/m² = thickness of the dry membrane 0.5 mm. Floor surfaces, at least two applications: approx l/m² = thickness of the dry membrane 0.5 mm. WORKING CONDITIONS The temperature of the structure and air must be C. The conditions must be stable in order to avoid dimensional changes of the materials due to variations in humidity and temperature. Underfloor heating is turned off 2 days prior to commencing work and turned on gradually approx. one week after tile grouting. Drying of Kiilto KeraPro can be accelerated by arranging efficient ventilation, but not with the help of extra heaters. TOOLS A roller, high-pressure spray, brush, smooth plastic spreader and retractable blade knife. The tools and fresh stains can be washed with water. Dried stains can only be removed mechanically. REINFORCEMENTS The reinforcement and sealing of corners, inlets, building boards and other wall base material joints and edges are done with Kiilto Nurkkavahvike tape (widths 10 or 20 cm). In connections between the floor and wall, the reinforcement tape is raised at least 5 cm to the wall. In internal and external corners and in inlets, the pre-fabricated Kiilto Sisänurkkavahvike internal corner reinforcements, Kiilto Ulkonurkkavahvike external corner reinforcements or Inlet reinforcement sheets can also be used. The floor drain reinforcement is done with the self-adherent Kiilto Kaivolaippa reinforcement sheet for floor drains. The floor drain must be equipped with a clamp ring recommended by the floor drain manufacturer. The connection between the floor drain and clamp ring can be sealed with KiiltoFix Masa. The reinforcements are always attached to fresh Kiilto KeraPro by floating with a roller, brush or a smooth plastic spreader. In order to ensure the complete saturation of the reinforcements, Kiilto KeraPro is applied on top of the reinforcements. The minimum overlap of the reinforcements is 30 mm. The self-adherent Kiilto Kaivolaippa reinforcement sheet for floor drains is placed on a primed surface. The compatibility of Kiilto KeraPro and the most common floor drains has been tested and approved. Ensure the compatibility by contacting the Technical support or the floor drain supplier. PRIMING INSTRUCTIONS Substrate Primer Concrete or plaster surface Kiilto Keraprimer diluted 1:1 with water Plaster board Other board substrates: absorbent non-absorbent Coarse concrete or masonry Kiilto Keraprimer undiluted Kiilto Keraprimer diluted 1:1 with water Kiilto Keraprimer undiluted Smooth with a cement-based Kiilto levelling compound Any low-strength surface must be removed. Any cement paste and other layers weakening the bond must be removed. The substrate to be primed must be clean and free from dust. More detailed instructions are available from our Technical support.

3 WALLS 1. Prime the substrate with Keraprimer according to separate instructions. Start waterproofing of the walls by installing the Nurkkavahvike tape to the corners and joints. Ensure that the fabric is saturated. 2. Install Inlet reinforcement sheets to inlets or make them with the help of the Nurkkavahvike tape. Note! Cut the hole approx. 10 mm smaller than the pipe diameter. 3. Apply Kiilto KeraPro to the wall surfaces and let it dry for approx. 1 hour. Notice the change in colour. 4. Apply Kiilto KeraPro for the second time to the wall surfaces and let it dry for approx. 2 hours. Notice the change in colour. The coverage for completed waterproofing is 0.75 l/m2 and the membrane thickness must be 0.5 mm. 5. You can start laying the wall tiles in approx. 2 two hours. Kiilto Superfix DF, Lightfix and Kerapid DF adhesives among others are suitable for tile laying. 6. Once the adhesive has dried, you can grout the walls with Kiilto Saumalaasti. FAST SPRAY APPLICATION In step 3, waterproofing can be applied, instead of a roller, with a high-pressure spray. Spray requirements: Spray output: At least 4 5 l/min Spray pressure: At least 170 bar Nozzle: At least 0.017" Appropriate spraying distance: cm The size and angle of the nozzle is selected according to the applied work method. Priming and installing of the reinforcements fabrics, which are part of the waterproofing process, are carried out normally according to the work instructions. Waterproofing is sprayed to the wall in at least two spraying sessions. Spraying can be performed uninterrupted, without drying between the layers, by ensuring that the minimum membrane thickness (0.5 mm) is accomplished. Kiilto KeraPro is a one-component and water-based fast curing waterproofing membrane for indoor wet areas. 4 FLOORS 1. Prime the substrate with Kiilto Keraprimer according to separate instructions. Start waterproofing of the floor by installing the Nurkkavahvike tape to the corners and joints. Ensure that the fabric is saturated. Alternatively, pre-fabricated reinforcement pieces can be used in the internal and external corners. 2. Install a Kiilto Kaivolaippa reinforcement sheet to a floor drain. 3. Cut the floor drain hole approx. 60 mm smaller than the floor drain diameter and install the clamp ring. 4. Apply Kiilto KeraPro to the floor surface and let it dry for approx. 1 hour. Notice the change in colour. 5. Apply Kiilto KeraPro for the second time to the floor surface and the raise to walls. Let it dry for approx. 2 hours. Notice the change in colour. The coverage for completed waterproofing is 0.75 l/m2 and the membrane thickness must be 0.5 mm. 6. You can start laying the floor tiles in approx. 2 two hours. Kiilto Superfix DF, Lightfix and Kerapid DF adhesives among others are suitable for tile laying. A completed wet room can be taken into use the next day, but possible underfloor heating cannot be turned on until approximately one week has passed since grouting and, even then, only gradually. 7. Once the adhesive has dried, you can grout the floor with Kiilto Lattiasaumalaasti. 8. Remove any extra tile grout from the corners and seal the corners and inlets with Kiilto Saniteettisilikoni. MEASURING THE MEMBRANE THICKNESS WITHOUT BREAKING WATERPROOFING According to VTT test report VTT-S , the membrane thickness of one-component waterproofing can be measured reliably without breaking the completed waterproofing membrane. The membrane is measured using the Posi- Tector 200 ultrasound device. The measurement can be performed from several different places from the wall or floor. Three measurements are taken from each measurement point and their average must be at least the required minimum membrane thickness (Kiilto KeraPro min. 0.5 mm). The measurement range of the ultrasound gauge must be set to ensure a sufficient range, e.g ,200 µm. The waterproofed substrate must be sufficiently smooth. The results of an uneven substrate vary clearly from each other. 1. The measurement makes use of separate gel as a medium between the sensor and waterproofing membrane. Once the measurement is complete, any remaining gel is to be wiped off the surface. 2. The sensor is placed on the waterproofing membrane surface. The device measures the membrane thickness for as long the sensor is held in place. Three consecutive measurement results of the device must meet the required minimum membrane thickness. This method enables reliable membrane measurement of wider areas as well. The thickness between the thinnest and thickest waterproofing point varies. It is recommended to measure the visually thinnest and as smooth as possible point. Waterproofing must be completely dry.
