2 2 Vencel Resil is one of the UK s largest manufacturer s of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and under the Jablite brand, supplies a range of bespoke insulation products and solutions to the construction, industrial and housebuilding markets. Vencel Resil specialises in providing industry-leading insulation solutions that meet current and future Building Regulations requirements for the specification of floors, walls and roofs of commercial, public sector and residential buildings. Established in 197, the company has been a member of the Synbra Group since Synbra is a multi-national organisation specialising in producing high quality EPS products throughout Europe. Being part of a European group means having the benefit of access to extensive resources and technology. Technical support Vencel Resil provides technical and design support and has a dedicated team of professionals who have extensive experience of working in the industry. Many clients find the technical support they receive invaluable in ensuring that specifications are in line with modern building requirements. Being more than just a manufacturer of EPS products, it is the company s expertise within this sector and the knowledge within its team which establishes Vencel Resil as one of the leading providers of high performance insulation. Jablite a market leading insulation material Vencel Resil has a major UK manufacturing base, where its Jablite expanded polystyrene products can be produced to specific grades and thicknesses to suit clients needs. As such, the company is constantly seeking ways to enhance the performance of the range. Jablite EPS is a proven insulation material, widely regarded as one of the most effective on the market, offering high thermal performance, unrivalled sustainability credentials, long-term durability, whilst ensuring its cost effectiveness in the market. Jablite Premium Jablite Premium is an innovative Low Lambda (EPS) insulation material that has the capacity to enhance a building s thermal performance by up to 20%. This enables builders and contractors to meet ever tightening Building Regulations without having to change their build practices A relatively new innovation in EPS insulation, Jablite Premium is becoming widely used in the floors, walls and roofs of domestic, public sector and commercial buildings. Instantly recognisable by its distinctive grey board with orange speckles, it provides the reassurances to architects, specifiers and contractors that the material used on site is the same as the one specified and, crucially, that the resulting performance matches the approved design intent. A major benefit of Jablite Premium is that it offers improved U-values without having to alter the thickness of the cavity wall or change the construction of the floor or roof. This ensures contractors on site maintain their efficiency, whilst clients benefit from maximum internal floorspace and low running costs. BRE Green Guide to Specification The Green Guide, produced by the British Research Establishment (BRE), assesses a range of building products environmental performance over their full life-span and awards them with a sustainability rating. EPS has achieved an A+, which is the highest rating possible and clearly demonstrates the material s excellent thermal and environmental credentials. The BRE ranks materials on the basis that the benefit of using any of the insulation types listed in the guide will outweigh the embodied environmental impact of their manufacture, installation and end-of-life disposal. Environmental credentials Expanded polystyrene is recognised for its excellent energy efficiency and low environmental impact. It has an ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) of zero and a low GWP (Global Warming Potential), which is exemplary. Vencel Resil is fully committed to sustainability in all areas of its operation. Energy saving and modern methods of construction are all carefully considered when researching and developing new products, as well as end of life recyclability.

3 Floor Insulation Floor Insulation APPLICATION: Products: Jabfloor Premium 70 and 100 Jabfloor Premium insulation can be used in all floor constructions for both domestic and commercial buildings. Perimeter floor insulation is mostly used in non-domestic applications. The application will determine the grade of Jabfloor Premium required for your project. Jabfloor Premium Jabfloor Premium 70 and 100 can be used as perimeter insulation in solid and precast concrete floor constructions where no additional insulation is required to satisfy the relevant U-value requirements. The board is placed horizontally beneath the slab and/or vertically at the perimeter wall in order to prevent cold-bridging at external wall and floor junctions. Easy to handle Jabfloor Premium is manufactured from low lambda expanded polystyrene (EPS) which is lightweight and easy to handle on site. Permanent Jabfloor Premium is rot-proof and durable and will remain effective for the life of the building. It also has the added advantage of being flood-proof. Rapid construction No specialised trades or equipment are required. Versatile Jabfloor Premium can be used above or below the damp-proof membrane. Environment Expanded polystyrene has been awarded an A+ rating by the BRE s Green Guide to Specification. Type Jabfloor Premium 70 is supplied as EPS 70 and 100 as defined in BS EN 116 Reaction to Fire Class E, containing a flame-retardant additive. Dimensions Standard size: 2400 x 1200mm. Standard thicknesses: 25, 0, 40, 50, 60, 75, 100, 120, 150 and 200mm (Other thicknesses available to order). Fire Solid ground floors are not required to provide fire resistance. When properly installed, Jabfloor Premium is fully protected by the concrete and/or the screed and will have no adverse effect on the fire performance of the floor.

5 5Floor Insulation INSTALLATION Damp-proof membrane Jabfloor Premium should not be regarded as a damp-proof membrane (DPM). A suitable DPM must be provided, positioned either above or below the Jabfloor Premium, or on top of the concrete slab; liquid membranes are positioned above the slab. The hardcore should be blinded before receiving either the Jabfloor Premium or the DPM. If a liquid DPM is used, care should be taken that it is compatible with the Jabfloor Premium and that it is completely dry before the insulation is laid. Damp-proof membrane with a suitable recess provided at the perimeter to receive the Jabfloor Premium. Jabfloor Premium should be loose-laid over the prepared surface; all joints should be tightly butted. If the concrete slab is to be poured directly onto the Jabfloor Premium, the joints should be covered with 75mm-wide adhesive tape to prevent the ingress of concrete or grout between the boards. 1 4 If the cavity wall insulation is not continued below the level of the damp-proof course, small vertical upstand of Jabfloor Premium should be used around the perimeter to the height of the concrete slab to prevent cold bridging as detailed in BRE Report 262. The concrete slab is laid to the required thickness and either tamped or powerfloated to provide the required finish. During these operations, the surface of Jabfloor Premium or the DPM should be protected from impact damage or excessive trafficking by the use of spreader boards. Vertical edge insulation (Figure 11.) Vertical insulation is normally installed on the internal face of the foundation walls, and should be placed during construction so that the insulation board is supported on the concrete footing. The boards should be adequately restrained against the wall during backfilling. The insulation should be protected from mechanical damage during backfilling operations and whilst the concrete slab is being poured. References BRE Report 262. 8 8 INSTALLATION Damp-proof membrane Jabfloor should not be regarded as a damp-proof membrane (DPM). A suitable DPM must be provided, positioned either above or below the Jabfloor, or on top of the concrete slab; liquid membranes are positioned above the slab. The hardcore should be blinded before receiving either the Jabfloor or the DPM. If a liquid DPM is used, care should be taken that it is compatible with the Jabfloor and that it is completely dry before the insulation is laid. Horizontal-edge insulation (Figure 12.2) The site hardcore should be blinded level, with a suitable recess provided at the perimeter to receive the Jabfloor. Jabfloor should be loose-laid over the prepared surface; all joints should be tightly butted. If the concrete slab is to be poured directly onto the Jabfloor, the joints should be covered with 75mm-wide adhesive tape to prevent the ingress of concrete or grout between the boards. If the cavity wall insulation is not continued below the level of the dampproof course, small vertical upstand of Jabfloor should be used around the perimeter to the height of the concrete slab to prevent cold bridging, as detailed in BRE Report 262. Figure 12.2 Horizontal insulation 2 5 The concrete slab is laid to the required thickness and either tamped or powerfloated to provide the required finish. During these operations, the surface of Jabfloor or the DPM should be protected from impact damage or excessive trafficking by the use of spreader boards. If the Jabfloor has been laid over the prepared blinding without a recess provided at the perimeter as described above, the concrete slab must be poured to the minimum thickness over the insulation which means there will be increased thickness elsewhere.
