1 PE-QV-OS Surface protection 13 Part 3: PE-QV-OS Surface protection PE foil, thermolaminated with swelling material (weight 1060 g/m²) Resistant to liquids The ideal alternative to other types of sealing: bitumen membranes, joint tapes, metal sheets, etc. Product information M:\TI\13\EN\E-WO13.3_PE-QV-OS.docx PE-QV-OS surface protection consists of a 500 µm thick PE foil, thermo-laminated on one side with swelling sealing tape (Art.No QV-DB, 480 g/m².) PE-QV-OS is ideal for waterproof retro-sealing of joints against liquids e.g. water and water mixtures. Standard delivery size: width 1 m, length 25 m Processing: two or more basic elements are placed in position one on top of the other, with the light swelling-material side to the damp or dry structural surfaces and joints, which may be of various materials e.g. protective concrete, steel, stainless steel, natural stone, brick, plastic, etc. They are fixed to the substrate with screws, nails or glue. The joins are covered with sealing compound, Art. No U-ADMF (290 ml cartridge). [Note: the PE-QV liquid-barrier layer must be appropriately weighed down from above, in order to withstand the thrust force. e.g. 1 m water column = 1 N/cm² = 100 g/cm².] Art. No. FlexproofX 1 can be used to attach the basic elements to walls, containers etc. Page 1 / 8

2 Special product features Sealing for all forms of structural engineering In combination with FlexproofX 1 sealing compound (Art. Nr. 31 FlexproofX 1), which is isocyanide-free and can be painted or sprayed on, or with universal sealing compound (Art. No U-ADMF290), this form of surface protection is extremely resistant, with excellent bonding to practically all substrates. If water enters, the water-reactive polymer swells, forming a gel layer that provides an enduring seal. The swelling material is watertight, even after damage (PE-QV-OS surface protection is absolutely watertight after attachment to the substrate with screws or nails!) Test: A hole was made in a piece of swelling material with a nail. The swelling material was then brought into contact with water. It swelled up immediately, closing the damaged area, so that no water could get through. Advantages: Simple, quick installation also for retro-sealing Self-healing properties due to water-reactive polymers without any further additives. Immediate swelling ensures sealing effectiveness even after damage. Long-lasting joint sealing against liquids Weather-resistant Resistant to acid and alkaline liquids Environmentally friendly Money-saving alternative to conventional sealing solutions: bitumen sheets, joint tapes, metal sheeting, coatings Innovative sealing system Page 2 /8

3 Installation PE-QV-OS is easy to lay, provided the following points are observed: PE-QV-OS can be installed in two different ways. PE-QV-OS must always be laid with the swelling material side facing the damp or dry structural surface and joints, which may be of various materials e.g. protective concrete, steel, stainless steel, natural stone, brick, plastic, etc. The black PE side faces the water entry point. 1. Mechanical attachment to the structural concrete with nails or other appropriate means etc. The nailholes close up automatically. 2. PE-QV-OS surface protection can also be laid in the formwork. It adheres to the wall surface either by means of fresh concrete or a layer of concrete fabric. Overlaps are made secure by means of additional glueing with sealing compound, Art. No U-ADMF (290 ml cartridge). Vertical overlaps should be nailed, screwed or glued to the structure. The joins are then glued over with 29.2 U-ADMF. Method 1 is technically superior and should be given preference whenever possible. If there are structural penetrations, the PE-QV- OS should be cut round them and the gaps sealed by filling with 29.2 U-ADMF. The overlaps should be 5-10 cm and should be secured mechanically. Contact pressure should be at least 150 kg/m². Any structural penetration is a potential weak point and each case must always be dealt with specifically when planning and carrying out sealing work.
