WAAGNER BIRO 160 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE. Founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1854, Waagner Biro has been a pioneer in high quality steel engineering for over 160 years. The company has amassed vast experience and an extensive portfolio, and today employs more than 1,500 employees across 15 locations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Our mastery of steel engineering, as well as the potential of steel as a material, are showcased in capital cities around the world, from the Lord Norman Foster designed Queen Elizabeth II Great Court in the British Museum, London, to the Louvre, Abu Dhabi. And our commitment to achieving the extraordinary has extended into the design and build of bridges that are as much landmarks as they are functional infrastructure projects. The Puente Continental, for example, is the longest suspension bridge in Peru, while the Donaustadt Bridge is one of Vienna s most recognisable modern landmarks. In 1967, Waagner Biro brought its competence, skill and ingenuity to the Gulf with a milestone project the construction of the Al Maqta Bridge in Abu Dhabi, the first permanent point of crossing between Abu Dhabi and the mainland. For 50 years, Waagner Biro Gulf has been providing both governments and private clients in the region with reliable, technically-advanced and cost-efficient turnkey engineering solutions, designing, building and maintaining iconic structures such as Dubai s Al Maktoum Bridge and Floating Bridge. 4 QUALITY COASTAL ENGINEERING Many of our specialist bridge projects spanned waterways. Their construction, therefore, involved extensive marine engineering capabilities. As a contractor that keeps all expertise and experience in-house, Waagner Biro Gulf LLC moved into the marine engineering field in a serious and professional way in order to facilitate such projects. We invested in experts, training, technology and equipment. The demand for know-how and experience in this sector became apparent. In 1997, the marine and coastal engineering division of Waagner Biro Gulf was created. We cover almost every field of marine engineering, including the design, manufacture, construction and installation of harbours, marinas and berthing facilities, as well as piling. We are experts in the development, improvement and protection of beaches and coastlines. And we fabricate barges and vessels. The marine and coastal engineering division stands for precision and competence paired with flexibility and reliability. It is these qualities that have seen us build long-term relationships with customers such as Dubai Government Authorities, with whom we have worked continually for many years. We undertake the full scope of marine engineering solutions for our valued clients from maintaining Dubai s pristine beaches to wharfage projects and floating water transport stations that have changed the shape of Dubai Creek and its coastline. Waagner Biro Gulf LLC takes responsibility for the whole process. With a dedicated design team, marine engineers, a fabrication yard and workshop and a construction company all under one roof means better communication and project management. In turn, this creates time and cost savings for our clients. We draw upon our knowledge and experience to provide value engineering solutions that still meet clients requirements. Plus, as a medium-sized company, Waagner Biro Gulf is unique in the region in being able to react to jobs of all sizes. 4 Waagner Biro Gulf Marine & Coastal Engineering

AL NOOR ISLAND Al Noor Island in the Emirate Sharjah with an overall size of 45,470 m², was developed in cooperation with the Austrian artist André Heller and the design collective 3Deluxe. The client of the project was the state development authority Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority). Al Noor Island contains a butterfly pavilion, an aviary, the Noor Island Café and boardwalks that stretch across the entire island. Waagner Biro Gulf LLC developed the basic construction of the glass pavilion and was also responsible for the design and construction of the 165 metre-long, distinctive footbridge that connects the Buhairah Corniche and Al Noor Island. 6 REFERENCES AL GHUBAIBA WATER TRANSPORT STATION At the request of Dubai s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Waagner Biro Gulf LLC designed and built water transport stations throughout Dubai Creek, along Dubai s coast line and Dubai Marina, from smaller Abra stations to larger water bus, water taxi and ferry stations. One brief we received was to design and build a large public water station to link the Al Ghubaiba metro station with Dubai s water transport system. As a station for watertaxis, waterbuses and ferries, it had to be modern but, due to its location in Dubai s oldest area, it also needed to reflect the Country s heritage. 6 Waagner Biro Gulf Marine & Coastal Engineering

REPORTING WHARF AT DUBAI CREEK Waagner Biro Gulf LLC was assigned by Dubai Municipality to Design & Build a Reporting Wharf at the entrance to the Dubai Creek in order to facilitate the berthing of long cargo vessels. The project comprised the construction of 220 metres anchored sheet piled quay wall including coping beam, fenders, bollards, lighting arrangements, etc. In addition, Waagner Biro Gulf LLC designed & built a three story office building which was modeled after heritage architecture and will be used by various authorities. 8 Coastline stabilisation using timber groynes at Jumeirah First, Dubai, built by Waagner Biro Gulf in STEEL PILES & TIMBER LOG GROYNES Although rock is routinely used, groynes can be fabricated from other materials. Steel piles are one option, while timber is occasionally also used to create groynes. Waagner Biro Gulf erected the first timber groynes in the UAE, in Jumeirah. These groynes consist of a combination of materials with tubular steel piles teamed with a special hardwood from Asia. This option requires less space and can be more aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the neighbouring architectural environment. 8 Waagner Biro Gulf Marine & Coastal Engineering

SUNSET MAJILIS, DUBAI, U.A.E Waagner Biro Gulf LLC was awarded this prestigious project based on the distinct concept design and drawings. The Sunset Majilis is a 314m² circular structure surrounded with a 2m wide timber walkway. The roof is covered with a double layered PVC coated polyester fabric having a diameter of 25m. The unique circular sliding door system which has a width of 16m is one of the largest automatic sliding door system in the Middle East. The Majilis was constructed in the sea on reclaimed land and surrounded by rock revetment and supported by linked foundation systems also designed and developed by Waagner Biro Gulf LLC. 10 MARINA & BERTHING FACILITIES As an extension of our design and build harbour services, the Dubai Governement Roads and Transport Authorities (RTA) requested Waagner Biro Gulf LLC to construct this bearthing facility for water taxis to link the Palm Jumeirah (from the prestigous Rixos Hotel) to the entire Dubai water taxi system for ease of transport throughout the Emirate. 10 Waagner Biro Gulf Marine & Coastal Engineering Rixos Water Taxi Station, The Palm, Dubai, UAE

BEACH STABILISATION & NOURISHMENT Our proficiency and expertise in rock groynes, timber groynes, geo bags and geo tubes are often combined with other Waagner Biro Gulf LLC specialties such as design, profiling, dredging and even sand replenishment, to establish functional and sustainable beaches. One excellent example of this is the lagoon at the uninhabited Al Yasat Aali Island where a private residence has been built on a coastline that was previously shallow and unusable. The beach required full coastal engineering and a variety of disciplines that Waagner Biro Gulf LLC could not only provide but was able to carry out in a quick and cost-effective fashion as the whole project could be performed in-house. The beach was stabilised through a series of rock groynes, adding breakwaters to ensure no further eroding of the sand. The lagoons were dredged to create a lagoon suitable for swimming and suitable for jet skiing. Finally, a boat and jet ski berthing facility was constructed.
