MANUFACTURED TO BS 5750 PART II / ISO 9002 QUALITY ASSURANCE STANDARDS DESCRIPTION Bondtec Membrane 886 is a single component liquid, non toxic waterproofing membrane. It is a water based, Styrene butadiene latex product that can offer a wide range of water-proofing applications. Suggested areas of typical application include, roof deck, podium deck, superstructure, water tank, kitchens, bathroom, planter boxes and basement. BENEFITS Flexible and elastic membrane Waterbased that can be applied even to damp backgrounds Quick drying - touch dry in 1-2 hours. Strong waterproofing property - Low water vapour permeability Tough abrasion resistant coating Non hazardous and solvent free Excellent bonding to many substrate Durable - UV and alkali resistant, can be applied to alkaline surfaces Easy application - by brush, spray or roller Low odour and Non-staining MAIN APPLICATIONS Bondtec Membrane 886 can be used in a wide variety of applications : Floors - used below screeds or above floor screed where the original membrane has been punctured.

Basements - used as part of a waterproofing system beneath ground level. Walls - since the liquid membrane has good adhesion to many types of substrate, so it can be used below render or plaster. Roofs - used as the main waterproofing coating or as part of a repair system. Tiling - used as secondary protection under tiles in wet areas balconies, etc. Tanking - The membranes perform well in our tests even when continuously immersed in water The white version of the membrane has been found to have good stain blocking properties. The membrane is recommended for protecting concrete from silage attack. COMPOSITION The liquid / Vapour waterproofing membrane is based on a styrene butadiene latex that dries to form a tough, water resistant film. The latex is water based, non toxic, environmentally friendly, and solvent free. The liquid membrane has a very low odour. The dried film, like most organic coatings, can be combustible. APPEARANCE The liquid membrane can be supplied in a range of colours including black, red, grey and white. The colour of the liquid compound may differ slightly from the colour of the dried membrane. The product as supplied is a viscous liquid of similar consistency to a thick emulsion paint. The membrane dries to form a tough semigloss finish. SURFACE PREPARATION Newly prepared surfaces should be smooth and have a trowelled or brushed finish. Any masonry should be flush pointed and defects in existing surfaces should be made good.

The surfaces needs to be clean and dry, free of any laitence, dust or loose material. The membrane should not be applied in wet conditions or where these conditions are likely to occur before the membrane has fully dried. However, it is sometimes advantageous to prewet the porous backgrounds so that it is damp but free from any water glistening on the surface, to aid in the wetting out of the background by the liquid membrane. The membrane should not be applied when the temperature is below 5. APPLICATION The liquid may be applied by brush, roller or airless spray. If necessary the compound can be diluted with water. However, care should be taken to ensure that the correct dry coat thickness is applied and that the drying time is not unacceptably extended. The thickness of the dried membrane depends on the application requirements and method of application. Normally, two coats is recommended to achieve the required thickness. The two coats should brushed or rolled on at right angles to each other. Before applying the second coat, it is necessary to let the first coat become touch dry. COVERAGE A minimum dried thickness of 0.6mm is needed to provide a vapour barrier. This should be applied in a minimum of two coats. For the final dried membrane thickness to be 0.6mm, the wet thickness needs to be 1.1 mm. This is equivalent to an application rate of 1.1 Litres/m² (1.2 kg/m²).

STORAGE - The liquid vapour membrane should not be stored where it is likely to freeze. PACKING 5 US Gal and 200 Kg plastic containers. TYPICAL PROPERTIES Total Solids content 58% Specific gravity 1.1 ph 8.7 TECHNICAL INFORMATION ADHESION Bondtec Membrane 886 shows excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. The adhesion of polymer modified mortar to the membrane (where the second coat of the membrane has been allowed to dry for one hour ) is sufficient for the membrane to be classified as a bonding agent, as defined in clause of BS8204 Part Code of Practice for Polymer Modified Wearing Surfaces. This Code of Practice requires that the slant shear strength is above 20N/mm² and the tensile bond strength is above 2 N/mm² after 14 days. The membrane complies with the bond strength requirements of BS 5270: Part 1 :1989 regarding bonding agents for use with gypsum building plaster. The surface of the undried membrane can be blinded with sand to provide a further mechanical key for subsequent coatings

RESISTANCE TO PRESSURISED WATER PENETRATION (POSITIVE HEAD PRESSURE) A 0.6 mm thick dry film of the membrane, supported on a porous tile biscuit, prevented water at 0.2 N/mm² pressure from penetrating into the tile during the 24 hour test period. The pressure is equivalent to a 20 metre head of water. ODOUR - The membrane has a very low odour. WATER VAPOUR PERMEABILITY Water vapour permeability is < 4g/ m2 /24 hours at 25 / 75%RH as measured by 3177 (Method for determining permeability to water vapour of flexible sheet materials) using Payne Cups, 0.6mm dry film thickness, conditioned at room temperature for 7 days prior to testing. CARBON DIOXIDE PERMEABILITY Carbon dioxide permeability of a coating is 10 times less than its water vapoour permeability, a 0.6mm thick membrane will have a carbon dioxide resistance of 100metres of still air. This compares favorably with the value of at least 50 meters which is recommended for anti-carbonation coatings. SHORE HARDNESS The mature membrane gives a Shore A hardness value in the order of 70.

Aging Bondtec Membrane 886 The polymer is protected by a non-staining antioxidant. Accelerated light aging tests for a 3 week period in a Xenotest 150 machine did not embrittle the film. In contrast to this, a bitumen film embrittled and became flaky. TENSILE STRENGTH / ELONGATION Films of Bondtec Membrane 886 were prepared to an approximate dry film thickness of 1mm. The membrane was allowed to dry at room temperature and tested as follows. Test performed at 500mm/min, 23, 50% RH. 7 days tensile at break (dry) : 2.6 N / mm ² 21 days tensile at break (dry) : 6.6 N / mm ² 21 days elongation (dry) : 580% 14 days elongation (wet) : 645% IMPORTANT NOTE To the best of our knowledge and belief, the information contained in this leaflet is true and accurate, but as conditions of use and any labour involved that beyond our control, the end user must satisfy himself by prior testing that the product is suitable of his specific application, and no responsibility can be accepted, or any warranty given by our Representatives, Agents or Distributors.
