Installation guide : aluminium framework for the Neofibra decking boards Congratulations on your purchase of the aluminium substructure for the Neofibra decking boards. It is of the utmost importance to strictly respect below installation guidelines for a long and carefree enjoyment of your terrace. The Neofibra aluminium substructure has been especially designed for raised or floating terraces as well as for applications where a direct mechanical fixation with screws into the surface is not possible, eg. on membranes or warm/cold roofing systems.. The Neofibra aluminium profiles have milled cut-outs enabling fast mounting of a solid and selfsupporting framework by clicking the upper and lower profile into each other. Requirements for the installation : - safety gloves ( the aluminium profiles have sharp edges! ) - ruler or tape measure - hammer (in wood or rubber) - cross-cut-saw or circular saw (table top model) with adjustable speed ( T/min) - blade for metal (fine teeth), T-type flatstage with negative side cutting teeth (eg ) - corded drill - 2,5 mm diameter metal drill - combi drill - drill bits (if possible magnetic bitholder) - spirit level 1

1. Determining the sizes of the terrace and direction of the decking boards First it is important to measure your terrace properly, both in width and in length. Then, you determine the direction in which you will install your decking boards. We always recommend to put the boards in the direction of the shortest side of the terrace! Make sure that the underground on which you want to install the terrace has enough strength and stability. After that, you determine how you will achieve the desired height with respect to doorsteps..., bearing in mind that you need a slope of min. 5 mm/m for drainage. The drainage of the terrace is always in the longitudinal direction of the decking boards. Any difference in height should be leveled out. The height of the aluminium framework of Neofibra is always 84 mm, if correctly installed, without the height of the Neofibra decking board (depending on the chosen board type). You can increase the height of the framework by universal adjustable plastic pedestals. If you install the framework directly on bitumen/roofing membranes, we advise the use of rubber or bitumen pads in order to improve the drainage and to avoid damaging the bitumen surface. When the size of the direction of the boards is longer than 4 m, we recommend using boards of max. 3 m in line. That way, you limit the size of the necessary dilatation gap between the boards and achieve a more aesthetic finish. Mind the fact that the boards must always be supported at the ends by an aluminium upper profile. This implies installing a double upper profile in the framework. A good preparation and study of the planned framework and terrace will avoid problems and will result in a quick installation of the decking boards afterwards. The Neofibra aluminium framework is self supporting and does not need to be attached to the underground. 2. Adjusting the size and installing the aluminium under profiles First, the underground needs to be adjusted to the desired final height ( by universal adjustable plastic pedestals), respecting the necessary slope of min. 5 mm per meter of terrace board. When placing the adjustable pedestals, bear in mind that the aluminium under profiles must be supported by a pedestal at each end and at maximum every meter in between. 2

Tip : The under profiles are put in the same direction as the decking boards and with the cut-outs downwards. Step 1 : Adjusting the length of the under profile : The length of the under profiles needs to be adapted to the dimensions of your terrace. Be sure that you always keep a dilatation gap of min. 10 mm towards fix objects ( door steps, walls,...) Shortening : You can easily shorten the profiles to the desired length with a suitable saw blade for aluminium. Lengthening : If your terrace is longer than the aluminium under profile, you can easily connect 2 under profiles with each other using the aluminium connection tube (ref. AVPDD0653). You cut a piece of approximately 12 cm from this tube, slide it 6 cm in the middle core of one under profile. Then you secure with a screw into the side of the under profile. After doing so, you slide the other under profile over the remaining 6 cm of the round connection tube and again screw into the side. Make sure that the connected profiles fit properly. 3

Step 2 : Adjusting the length of the upper profile : The length of the upper profiles need to be adjusted to the sizes of your terrace.. Make sure you always respect the necessary dilatation gap of 10 mm towards fix objects (doorsteps, sills, walls, ) Shortening: If your terrace is shorter than 4 m, you determine the desired length and saw 1 end of the upper profile at 10 mm of the last cutout. You now have a piece of 70 mm ( cutout of 50 mm + 2 edges of 10 mm). You keep this little piece in order to connect it with the shortened profile. After that, you shorten the remaining upper profile to the desired length. Do NOT forget that the already sawn endpiece of 70 mm must be added to this. To do so, you can use the aluminium connection tube (ref. AVPDD0653) as explained in step mm Lengthening : 2 upper profiles can be connected with each other by using the aluminium connection tube (ref. AVPDD0653) as explained in step 1. The shortening of this second upper profile occurs as already described above. 3. Positioning of the aluminium under and upper profiles The under profile ( with the cutouts downwards) is placed square under the first cutout of the upper profile. Always respect the 10 mm dilatation gap of the upper profile towards fix objects ( doorsteps, sills, walls,...) 4

After that, maximum 2 cutouts of the upper profile are left free for the positioning of the next under profile. ( only 1 cutout can be left free for commercial or very intensive use). Pay attention to the fact that you have to end with an under profile in the last cutout of the upper profile. The under profiles are now completely placed and you can start to fit in the upper profiles. We begin this fitting of an upper profile at the ends of the under profiles and then we continue by placing the next upper profiles at maximum 350 mm distance. (Maximum 300 mm for commercial or very intensive use) MAX. 350 mm 5

Important : When the size of the direction of the boards is longer than 4 m, you must use different boards of max. 3 m in line. That way, you limit the size of the necessary dilatation gaps. Every decking board must be supported at the ends by its own aluminium upper profile. This means that extra aluminium upper profiles must be placed and that the distance between the upper profiles must be adapted accordingly. At those positions where there are double upper profiles, you must leave min. 10 mm distance in between. 10mm Tip 1 : use a decking board of the right length to determine the exact position of the extra aluminium upper profiles. Tip 2 : Using a clamp at several positions where some upper profiles have already been fitted, will simplify the process of installation. After that, you must screw down every intersection/crossing of the aluminium profiles) through the groove of the upper profile. This, you do by pre-drilling with a metal drill type diameter 2,5 mm. Having done this, you proceed by screwing the profiles with self-tapping screws with countersunk head ( diameter 4,2 mm x 50 mm) in order to make a strong and dimensionally stable frame. 6

4. Placing the Neofibra decking boards Now, the substructure in aluminium is ready. You can start installing your selection of Neofibra decking boards. These boards can be installed directly on the aluminium upper profiles with the appropriate Neofibra clips. For the correct installation of the decking boards, we refer to the respective installation guides. 5. Finishing your terrace If you want to hide the dilatation gaps between the decking boards and towards fixed objects, you can use several Neofibra accessories in aluminium. An overview of these accessories can be found on our website or you can contact your local distributor. Enjoy your new terrace!!! 7
