The EN standard specifies requirements for multiuse sports surfaces in indoor facilities. This document has been applicable since 2006 and compulsor y since Februar y The EN standard is the basis of the EC marking for indoor sports floorings. This standard both guarantees the safety and performance of the surface, and also recognizes its quality. Shock absorption rates the percentage of force reduction that a flooring provides compared to hard surfaces. This characteristic improves player comfort and security by decreasing the risk of injury. Different force reduction characteristics may be prescribed for different sports or users. The surface friction of a sports flooring must be high enough to prevent premature and uncontrollable sliding of athletes on its surface, but also low enough to enable sliding off an extreme force. Vertical deformation and area deflection Vertical deformation measures the level of vertical displacement of the floor to support the foot in movements like running or jumping. Area deflection measures how much the surface of the floor is set into motion during impact, typically to provide movement for players performing in close proximity to each other. Ball rebound This characteristic measures the floor s playing performance. The surface must absorb the shock of impact but also give a consistent ball rebound that s the same as the rebound on a concrete slab. The practice of competition level basketball has evolved over two decades. The needs of athletes and improved equipment have gone hand in hand to ensure the quality of the sports surface and player performance. For the security of our athletes, we are particularly sensitive to criteria such as shock absorption, slide control and ball rebound. But it s still in play over 16 years later. Since GreenLay was invented, more than 800,000 sqm all over the world have been installed using this innovative technique.
