1 Council Meeting Date: January 13, 2009 Agenda Item #: 10.3 CENTRE IN THE PARK & COMMUNITY CENTRE PROGRESS REPORT Report Purpose To provide an update on the Centre in the Park development and Community Centre construction activities. Recommendation That Council receive the Centre in the Park and Community Centre Progress Report as information. Council History On December 3, 2002, Council approved the Centre in the Park Business Plan and Capital Budget. On November 21, 2006, Council approved the Capital Budget to construct a LEED TM Standard Community Centre in the Park. Gold On April 22, 2008, Council approved a Capital Budget Amendment to add a third floor above the Family & Community Services offices to coincide with the current construction activities in order to build in capacity for growth in municipal space requirements. Economic: N/A Social: N/A Environmental: LEED TM Standard Stakeholder: Community at large, Strathcona County Library Interdepartmental: All County departments Summary The overall project, including the Community Centre, is now in the implementation and construction stage: 1. The first stage of Centre in the Park site servicing and open space development were completed in late The first phase of Prairie Walk was opened for public use during the 2007 Summer Games. Underground utilities required to service the Community Centre and the relocation of Family & Community Services and Facility Services were completed in October Christenson Development have completed the first two adult condominium buildings; Festival Estates and Park Vista. The first stage of Bedford Village, a seniors life lease project is 90% complete with the second stage scheduled for construction in Commencement of subsequent stages will be dependent upon economic and market conditions in the broad context of the Capital Region as well as locally in Sherwood Park Document #: Strathcona County

Site preparation and interim facilities, including parking, required to assure uninterrupted public service and accessibility to County Hall during construction of the Community Centre and demolition of the old Annex Building were completed in early Construction of the underground parking structure and building foundations commenced in February 2008 and will be completed in January This phase of work is tracking on schedule and on budget. 5. Fabrication of structural steel for the building superstructure is currently underway and erection will begin in late January The sub trade work under Tender Package 5 for architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical components has been awarded and is currently scheduled to start once the building superstructure is nearing completion in July Design of Landscaping for Tender Package 6 is currently underway. Design and tender documents to be completed by July 2009; however, the Project Team will review the status of the industry and the economic climate and conditions to determine the when to issue this work for tender. The work under this package is not scheduled to be completed until summer of Various activities continue in the area of sustainable design and interest in the project continues. Overall work on the project is proceeding as planned and continues to be on budget and schedule.
