1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION PowerWhite is a White Portland Cement that binds together aggregates (sand, ballast) in a concrete or mortar mix to create a more versatile and colorful finish to concrete surfaces. It is similar to ordinary grey Portland Cement in all aspects except for its high degree of whiteness. Obtaining this colour requires substantial modification in the manufacturing process. 1 1

2. MANUFACTURE AND COMPOSITION PowerWhite Cement is made from carefully selected raw materials with low content of colouring elements such as iron, chromium, magnesium and titanium. High-grade limestone with typically low values of Fe2O3 (Iron Oxide) is sought and conventional clay substituted with Kaolin. Since Kaolin has low SiO2 (Silica) content, more sand is included in the raw meal to compensate for this. In general, the raw materials are chemically combined in rotary kilns fired at a higher temperature than the conventional cement and the molten matter exiting the kiln rapidly cooled. The objective is to have clinker with low Fe2O3 (Iron Oxide) contents and avoid re-oxidation during the cooling process. In order to avoid contamination of cement with iron, the clinker is ground on a stone or ceramic coated mill using nickel and molybdenum alloy balls. 2

Specifications PowerWhite Cement chemical composition and physical characteristics conform to the specifications of the Kenyan Cement Standard KS EAS 18-1 as adopted from the European Norm Standard EN The cement is ground to a higher fineness in order to increase its brightness. 3. APPLICATIONS PowerWhite Cement is used for a variety of construction and repair applications. Applications requiring white or coloured concrete (Structural and Architectural concrete) Finishing operations such as renderings, coloured mortars and concrete surfaces Finishing of large panels and blocks Joint and repair mortars Treatment and repair of sculptures and building products Building decorations Restorations Special plasters and cement-based paints Precast panels and systems Swimming pools Marble manufacturing Joint filler and tile adhesives Filling compounds Floor and concrete roof tiles White stucco and skim coats Traffic safety construction such as concrete median barriers, bridge parapets, guard rails, sound barrier walls, earth retaining walls, reflecting curbs and other delineators. 3

4. BENEFITS I. Terrazzo floors and walls Terrazzo made with PowerWhite Cement combines lasting beauty with the strength and durability of concrete. Absorption-resistant cement terrazzo affords a low-cost, low-maintenance flooring or wall surface that is ideal for schools, hospitals, airports, shopping centers, office buildings and other areas subject to high foot traffic or severe weather conditions. PowerWhite Cement based terrazzo is a fire resistant material that can withstand intense heat and open flame. III. Pattern versatility PowerWhite concrete enables patterns to be created through a variety of techniques; repetition of building elements, contrasting high and low relief panels and differing aggregates. IV. Stucco Stucco makes an ideal surface finish for almost any exterior or interior project. It can either be mixed at the site or obtained as a pre-packaged finish coat. PowerWhite Cement stucco finishes provide commercial, industrial and residential versatility in surface material which improves and grows stronger with age. II. Unique combinations of shapes, sizes, textures & colour Concrete made with PowerWhite Cement offers strength, moldability, plasticity, consistency and affords opportunities for creativity and superior building design. Whether simple or complex, white concrete made with PowerWhite Cement is a cost-effective way to create unusual building components. Coloured marble, glass, metal and other aggregate material can be embedded in the PowerWhite Cement matrix, or sprayed onto fresh stucco coating to give the surface a variety of appearances. From glossy-smooth to ruggedly-coarse, white concrete and mortar made with PowerWhite Cement offers unlimited potential for adding texture to an overall design. PowerWhite Cement is the cement of choice for architectural uses that require a true white concrete, or a base cement where vibrant colours are desired. 4

V. Tile grout Tile grouts complement the beauty of floor and wall tiles, secures them in place while protecting them from water damage. PowerWhite Cement ensures uniformity and strength through its rigidly controlled production process. Its pure white consistency provides the canvas on which a rich spectrum of beautiful colours can be obtained. Tile grout made with PowerWhite Cement adds a distinction to the finishing touches and overall value to any building or home. The availability of a wide variety of pigments provides an infinite palette for unique colour compositions. VII. Swimming pools & spas PowerWhite Cement is the top choice for professional pool and spa plasters. It can be mixed at the jobsite or obtained as a pre-packaged finish coat. PowerWhite based pool plaster, when properly applied to the interior of concrete pools and spas, creates a reflective, sparkling and refreshing ambience which adds a charming grandeur to an entire pool setting. Pool plastering using PowerWhite Cement, when applied creatively provides the ingredients of an outstanding, award-winning design. VI. Cast-in-place As a design medium, cast-in-place white concrete offers opportunities for creativity. Cast-in-place concrete made with PowerWhite Cement makes the creation of unusual and intricately designed building components cost effective. From simple circles and squares, to complex, large, multi-story arches, canopies and columns. VIII. Hardscaping, landscaping and ornamental Experience the beauty, versatility and durability of ornamental concrete products made with PowerWhite Cement. The classic elegance of ornamental concrete and statuary, dates back to ancient times and continues to be appreciated in the world over. The use of PowerWhite Cement in concrete products such as planters, fountains and balustrades creates an exceptional opportunity to enhance the interior and exterior of any commercial or residential project. 5

IX. Perimeter security From government buildings to private residences, perimeter security is becoming a necessary element. PowerWhite Cement offers the ideal solution for integrating artistic designs into modern security responses. X. Concrete roof tile Concrete roof tile is non-combustible, bug proof, durable and wind resistant. For many years, roof tile has been recognised as a durable and attractive building material. Bags should be stacked on a counter floor, 10 20cm above regular floor, or on palettes. The use of clean sand free of deleterious materials is necessary for production of white masonry mortar. Sand gradation influences mortar colour. Sands finer than those permitted by the specifications usually result in weak mortars. Mixing water must be clean, potable and of low iron content. All additives should be white or light coloured to avoid discolouration of the white concrete. The use of PowerWhite Cement in concrete roof tiles helps minimise the heat island effect. Architects, builders and homeowners value the creative, luxurious appeal that concrete roof tiles add to any building style. 7. CAUTION 5. PACKAGING PowerWhite Cement when dry is non-hazardous. When in contact with moisture (such as in the eyes or on skin), or when mixed with water to make concrete, mortar, or grout, it becomes highly caustic and can cause third degree burns. Inhalation of dry PowerWhite Cement can also irritate the upper respiratory system. PowerWhite Cement is packaged in 50kg bags. 6. HANDLING The cement must be kept dry in order to retain its quality. Bulk cement should be stored in weather tight bins or silos. 6
