Crushed aggregate of different sizes, stored in cold feed bins, is metered from hopper bins onto a conveyor belt where it enters a scalper prior to entry into the rotary dryer. This dryer is diesel fired. Re-claimed Asphalt Product (RAP) can be added to the mix through RAP Bin, Scalper and conveyor into drum mixer. Bituminous asphalt cement, heated in a hot oil tank, is weighed for the correct final KANSAS COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE SERVICES, INC. 9

10 mix ratio. All ingredients travel through the drum where it is mixed for a short time, typically less than a minute. This Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is then conveyed to a hot storage silo and / or directly into delivery trucks for delivery to the job site. COMPONENTS Aggregate Feed Bins Collecting Conveyor Scalping Screen Drum Feed Conveyor Burner Drum Mixer Air Filtration bag-house Up to eight different sizes of aggregate might be combined to create the final product. These raw ingredients are stored in bins known as cold feed bins which have a conveyor scale leading to another conveyor called a collecting conveyor. Bins for materials including¾" rock, lime natural sand, RAP, brick sand, man-made sand and drag sand may be utilized. Moves measured amounts of aggregate from the cold feed bins and transfers it to the drum mixer. Located between the cold feed bins and a conveyor going to the drum mixer. This is used to re-screen the crushed aggregate to remove any oversized materials. This can also aid in blending the different sizes of aggregate prior to entering the drum. Conveyor from scalping screen to the drum. Large burner with a substantial fan attached, blows into one end of the drum to dry and heat the aggregate mix. Typically, near the center of the drum the hot asphalt cement is injected into the drum to mix with the hot aggregate. Aggregate from the drum conveyor is dumped into a large hollow cylinder known as the asphalt drum where it dries, mixes, and is mixed with the bituminous asphalt cement. Any Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) can also be added in measured quantities to the drum. The heated air that is blown into the drum extracts large amounts of dust and sand from the heating aggregate mix and can't simply be exhausted into the atmosphere without being cleaned by the bag-house. It is a large volume enclosure with filter bags that remove and collect the final particles coming out of the drum. These particles are commonly fed back into the drum near the asphalt cement input to become part of the mix. KANSAS COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE SERVICES, INC. 10

11 Elevator and/or Conveyor Hot Mix Storage Silos Once the completed asphalt hot mix product exits the drum, it goes to a slat conveyor or elevator. The steep incline carries the HMA to the silo. Silo serves the subject to provide a variety of asphalt mix. From here it is dispensed into trucks to be hauled to the job site. ON-SITE IMPROVEMENTS CONDITION Site berm to raise building and plant site above existing street elevation and flood plain level. Concrete footings to support structures, embedded with steel plates to form weld and support plant structure. New fill and compaction. New Ingress/ Egress provided by two gated entrances: one near the east line to serve the plant, one near the west line to serve the shop, office, and yard.
